MRS STEVENSON DEPUTY HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL

Dear Parents I had the absolute pleasure of meeting many of you at our Parent Information Evening last night and our Junior School team thank you for your attendance. Please make sure you read the new Junior School Parent Booklet carefully as it has been updated with specific details and dates for 2021. For those who did not attend, students will bring home the Booklet today. Healthy Sleep Habits I have been reflecting on the importance of routines, and how all people - both children and adults - find comfort in knowing routines, expectations and what comes next. One routine which is particularly important is getting enough sleep. Comforting night routines and healthy sleep habits help students to grow and develop, as well as be able to focus in class and make good decisions.

Weekly Bulletin Illuminations This year I am teaching stage 2 and stage 3 illuminations and it has been quite a great start to the year, especially getting to know a lot of the new students that are ready to embark of an amazing journey in this beautiful college of ours. This year with stage 2, we are discussing topics of Fiqh (Jurisprudence), Islamic History, Ethics and Morals, Quranic stories and many other aspects of Islam. We have begun with some Fiqh and discussion on the concept of Wajib. This is some amazing handwriting displayed by Lmar Hadi of 3S showing great diligence and productivity in class, as shown on the left.

This year in stage 3, we have begun the topic of Beginning our Journey to God whereby the students are starting to understand they purpose of their creation and existence. They are introduced to thought provoking stories and activities that spark their curiosity and activate their pure innate nature of the belief of the one Almighty Creator. They are all embarking on a deeply spiritual journey of self-discovery which will eventually lead them to the discovery of their Creator based on concept elucidated by our first Imam Ali bin Abu Talib: Whoever knows himself, will know his Lord.

Here on the right, a student, Sidra Najafi of 5/6A is seen here making a lovely imaginative picture of what could be visible from a telescope whilst viewing the beautiful canopy of Allah i.e. the heavens with its constellations and stars.

It is an absolute honour and a privilege to be teaching your students these critical subjects that will create a strong foundation which will prepare them to face the real world, whenever they come across a challenge to their beliefs and faith, Insha- Allah.

Assalum alaykum, Dear parents,

On Thursday 18th February, Bellfield College took part in the 2021 NRL Community Blitz 2021 in partnership with the NRL and West Tigers. Year 3-6 students enjoyed a fun and informative session with two West Tigers Rugby League team players. Players Kelma Tuilgai and Thomas Mikaele spent an exciting morning with our students teaching them about respect, kindness and sportsmanship. Students shared great responses with the players and were gifted with some merchandise. Kind Regards, Miss Fatima Mchawrab Stage 1 Coordinator/Junior School Sports Coordinator

Assalamu alaykum, It has been a busy start to the year and 5P has hit the ground running. Students have settled well into Stage Three and are excited about all of our planned events. This term we are learning about the Gold Rush, an important part of Australian history. In Stage Three we are taking an integrated approach to our learning which means several subjects will be taught through teachings of the Gold Rush. Students have begun building context behind the Gold Rush; how it has influenced Australian history and how it has shaped Australia today. In English we have been using this unit to write letters to our friends, family and others from the perspective of people who lived through this time. In Science & Technology we are learning about the importance of gold and exactly why it is so valuable. While in Creative Arts we have been using old pictures of miners to explore the elements of art and investigate the differences between the past and present. It is an exciting time for our Year Five students and we will be working hard throughout the year. I am looking forward to the rest of 2021!Sincerely Mr Paras

GENERAL BUSINESS

Early Student Pickup Please note the following regarding student afternoon dismissal. Any telephone calls to the office to change your child's dismissal arrangements must be received before 2.30pm unless it is an emergency. We will also ask that students are not collected from the Junior or Senior office between 3.00pm and 3.30pm. If you have a medical appointment we ask that students are collected before 3.00pm. These strategies are in place to ensure that teachers and students can maximise learning time and assist in keeping the dismissal as calm and safe as possible.
