Assalamu Alaykum Dearest Bellfield families, Ramadan Mubarak Welcome back to Term 2, and what a busy term it will be! To keep up to date with what is happening at the College, please ensure you have added us to your WhatsApp contacts, and set up the Sentral Parent Portal app on your phone. The fun starts next week with our 2-day Mother’s Day stall. Gifts will range from $2 - $10. Don’t forget to send money with your child if you would like them to purchase a gift. All proceeds will go towards our Year 6 fundraising. Also, this term, Years 3 & 5 will be sitting their NAPLAN exams. We have a number of fun incursions taking place at the College and late this term, we will be having parent teacher interviews and handing out half yearly reports. Parents are reminded that they can contact their child’s classroom teacher at any time throughout the year, via email or a telephone call to the school. You may also like to message your child’s teacher via the Sentral Parent Portal app. In other news Last Sunday evening, I had the honour of attending my first Bellfield College Annual IFTAR Dinner. It was a lovely opportunity for our school community to come together and for me to get to know some of our families (I may have otherwise not had the opportunity to meet). I would like to extend my thanks to our Head of Illuminations, Brother Mohamed Wehby, and the IFTAR Dinner events team responsible for making it such a wonderful evening.l

A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL This week Junior School also launched its new sports program, complete with brand new equipment! Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to learn and master new sporting skills as they rotate through structured 5 week programs. Congratulations to Miss Mchawrab for her hard work in coordinating junior school sports. Lastly, this Sunday 25th April is ANZAC Day. ANZAC Day is a day to honour all Australians who have served our country in times of war and conflict and in particular, the original ANZACS, who landed on the shores of Gallipoli over 100 years ago. It was lovely to see KH learning about the ANZACs in class today and taking such care with their detailed poppy paintings. This Monday 26th April, Bellfield College Junior School will be hosting our very own ANZAC Day ceremony in the Prayer Hall from 9am – 10am. Parents are more than welcome to attend but must register at the Junior School Office upon arrival at the College. Have a restful weekend. Warmest regards Miss Harold

MRS STEVENSON DEPUTY HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL Dear Families,

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Week 1

Welcome back to Term 2, I trust that you had an enjoyable break. I am very impressed with how happy and settled our students have been this week. I have spent time in the playground and visiting all classrooms, and the students are busy and engaged in their learning. Many grades have special events planned to enhance learning this term, so stay tuned for more information. Term Overviews will be shared with parents via WhatsApp. Mascot Challenge K-2 students have begun a ball skills program called the Mascot Challenge which is provided by Cricket Australia. This program runs daily for 4 weeks and develops hand-eye coordination and throwing and catching skills.

At Bellfield we are always ready to learn and give our best!

Parent Helpers and Volunteers The Junior School would like to welcome all parents to volunteer wherever possible. This is an excellent way to support our students, the goals of the College and strengthen the Bellfield community in a range of different activities.

Gardening During the school holidays, some teachers came to school and worked very hard to transform our Junior School garden beds. Once full of overgrown weeds, they are now filled with sunflowers and a variety of seedlings. The students have shown great interest in the gardens and I am sure you will agree that they make a wonderful improvement to our school environment.

ARABIC IN YEAR 2

Assalamu Alaykum Dear Parents and Friends, With the worship months of Rajab and Shaaban passing and the month of Ramadan approaching, I would like to congratulate our dear brothers in this holy month. A month that brings us closer to Allah as the gates of paradise are opened awaiting for our prayers and good deeds. I hope you have a blessed month full of nothing but deeds in the pleasure of Allah. Welcome back to term 2, hope you had a restful break. In year 2, we are learning to write our names in Arabic and students are enjoying it. Hopefully, by the end of term 2 all students will be able to write their name independently. We have finished our first book and Insha’Allah we will start with our new book in the upcoming week. Warm Regards Hiam Ajami

SUCCESS IN 6S In 6S, we have been working hard throughout all aspects of the school day. We have been learning about the Gold Rush era in the 1850’s and how this has changed Australia as a colony. In English, we have transported back in time to what life as a miner would have been like through engaging diary and letter writing, detailing all parts of a miner's day using figurative and emotive language. Take a look at our tea-stained diary entries:

SUCCESS IN 6S

Science lessons have been hands-on with constructing our very own innovative, modern Gold Mining Tool! We began by brainstorming with our group on what we would like our tool to look like, and how it can work. After this, we then discussed the materials we require for our Gold Mining Tool. We then put our engineering hats on and began discussing the mechanics involved in separating the dirt from the ‘gold’ through lots of trial and error. Take a look at us building away!

In Creative Arts, we created these beautiful artworks of what life as a miner would have looked like. We experimented with line, proportion and colour to create these masterpieces. Miss Sari then took photos of us and printed off our faces to paste into the artworks. Have a look at them: Warm regards Ms Sari

NSW PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE Dear Parents and carers, What is the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge? The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The PRC is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. Students must read a certain number of books to complete the Challenge. Upon successful completion of the Challenge, students will be eligible for a PRC certificate in Term 4. When is the challenge? The 2021 Challenge opened to students on Monday March 1, 2021 and will close on Friday August 20, 2021. How does my child sign up? Students will receive their login shortly from their class teacher. Students will use their login to access their online profile and log the books they read online. What should my child read? Please encourage your children to read the books that have been shortlisted on the website prc@det.nsw.edu.au . Students can borrow books from the College library. Also, a trip to your local library is always a nice way to ensure you have the correct books, as they are easy to find. By encouraging and engaging all our students to partake in this initiative we hope to develop a greater love for reading and to further improve their literacy and vocabulary skills. If you need help using the website and the answer cannot be found on the PRC Support site, please contact us at the College on 9606 2666. Warm Regards Miss Balloot K-6 Literacy and Numeracy Instructional Leader
