As adults, taking time out of our busy days to talk with our children about their interests and aspirations is so important. It ensures that as young people, they have a voice, are valued, cared for, and listened to. As Head of Junior School, this is certainly my number one priority - that ALL our students feel valued, cared for, and listened to.

A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL AAs an educator working with children and young people (with close to twenty years’ experience), I take child protection matters very seriously. This week I attended a two-day course where I learned all about child protection legislation and the different government agencies which exist to help and support schools and families. All members of our Bellfield Community have a right to feel safe. All children deserve a safe a stable home for life. If you or someone you know ever needs help, or if you suspect their children or your own children feel unsafe, this week I have included some links and phone numbers for where to go for help. https://www.facs.nsw.gov.au/families
As always, have a safe and restful weekend. Warmest regards Miss Harold

KINDY & YEAR 1 - QURAN AND ILLUMINATIONS Salamu Alaykum Eid Mubarak to all our families, May Allah bless us with accepting our acts of fasting and prayer and use them as shield in the hereafter. What a wonderful start it has been to Term 2 . Kindergarten and year 1 worked effortlessly, learning about the Holy month of Ramadan, the month of forgiveness, blessings, charity and repentance. In kindergarten we learned surat Al Aser and recited it everyday in the class. We also learned the Arabic letters and numbers. It is important for children to gain knowledge through different methods. Practicing to say the letter, trace it, write it, identify it and recognize it, through a number of activities and skills in which they acquire in class. We also made our own placemats, as we learned Islamic expressions using good manners and reciting the name of Allah before an act. We designed our placemats to learn where to sit and eat and what to say before beginning to eat.

KINDY & YEAR 1 - QURAN AND ILLUMINATIONS In year 1 Illuminations, we focused on changing our behavior and applying good manners during the holy month of Ramadan. We learned that Ramadan is when we start changing our attitudes from bad to good and appreciating what Allah has blessed us with. We learned to make good choices each day and make a daily good deed. Students put together “Little Good Deeds” books where each page is a good deed, that needs to be implemented. Eid was the best of all as students coloured their Eid cards to take home and celebrate with their families. Eid Mubarak Mrs Bahsoun Quran and Illuminations

NSW PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE Dear Parents and carers, What is the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge? The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The PRC is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. Students must read a certain number of books to complete the Challenge. Upon successful completion of the Challenge, students will be eligible for a PRC certificate in Term 4. When is the challenge? The 2021 Challenge opened to students on Monday March 1, 2021 and will close on Friday August 20, 2021. How does my child sign up? Students will receive their login shortly from their class teacher. Students will use their login to access their online profile and log the books they read online. What should my child read? Please encourage your children to read the books that have been shortlisted on the website prc@det.nsw.edu.au . Students can borrow books from the College library. Also, a trip to your local library is always a nice way to ensure you have the correct books, as they are easy to find. By encouraging and engaging all our students to partake in this initiative we hope to develop a greater love for reading and to further improve their literacy and vocabulary skills. If you need help using the website and the answer cannot be found on the PRC Support site, please contact us at the College on 9606 2666. Warm Regards Miss Balloot K-6 Literacy and Numeracy Instructional Leader
