A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL

Upcoming Events First Day of Term 3 Monday 12 July

Assalamu Alaykum Dear parents and carers It has been a very busy week 10! Thank you to all families who attended our Parent Teacher Interviews this week. We had a fantastic turn out! If you were unable to make it on the night, please remember to phone the school to make an appointment with your child’s teacher. Reports will not be released until student fees are up to date. Please phone the College if you have any further questions about reports and fees.

Hajj Camp 15 & 16 July

This week Stage 3 enjoyed participating in the Greening Australia Workshop, planting more trees around the College grounds. Year 4 enjoyed their Jamie Ranger excursion, and by all reports, Year 6 have been having an amazing time at the Year 6 camp!

Eid Qurban School Closed 20 & 21 July

During the school holidays it will be NAIDOC week. Today the Junior School held a very special NAIDOC Week assembly. NAIDOC 2021 invites all Australians to embrace First Nations’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country, as part of Australia's national heritage and equally respect the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders.

Pyjama Day Friday 23 July

Another important event which took place today was an emergency lockdown drill. As a registered and accredited school, Bellfield College is required to have an Emergency Management Plan and conduct regular drills to ensure the safety of all school personnel, including our most vulnerable, our students. Knowing what to do in the case of an emergency is very important.

A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL As the drill was unannounced, some children found the drill worrying. Whilst Mrs Stevenson, myself and other teachers discussed with students the reason and importance of the drill, you may also like to take the time to talk to your child about how they felt today and why practising what to do in an emergency is important. Lastly, a reminder that the College is closed tomorrow. Please ensure suitable care arrangements are in place for your child/ren.

First Day of Term 3 Have a safe and restful holiday break and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 3. Monday 12 July Warm regards Jennie Harold

MRS STEVENSON DEPUTY HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL Dear Junior School Families, It was a pleasure to meet many parents at our recent Parent Teacher Interviews. I always enjoy discussing positive feedback, as well as clarifying any questions about your children’s experience here in the Junior School. Open communication and parent relationships are an essential part of strengthening our College culture. I cannot believe that we are already halfway through the year! Time flies when you’re having fun. Term Two has been filled with so many exciting activities and learning experiences and our fabulous staff are already preparing events for Term Three such as celebrating 100 Days of Learning, Public Speaking Competition, Hajj Camp and Book Week. ICAS Competition Please be reminded that the ICAS Competition registration closes on 16th July. ICAS provides an excellent opportunity for students in Years 3-10 to complete challenging tasks and receive certificates which are recognised across Australia.

$100 Swimming Lesson Vouchers I was excited to read that the NSW Government will be offering families $100 towards Swimming Lessons! Learning to swim is a vital part of child development, and a life-saving skill in Australian society. If your children are unable to swim confidently, it’s never too late to enrol them in regular swimming lessons. To close, I would like to thank our amazing Junior School team for their hard work and dedication this semester and I would also like to wish all families a safe, restful and happy holiday period. Kind regards Mrs Natalie Stevenson Deputy Head of Junior School

YEAR 4 EXCURSION

Year 4 had a fantastic day with Ranger Jamie’s Tours in Stanwell Park. They learnt many amazing things about forces. They took part in making and launching rockets, making slime, riding on billycarts and playing tug-a-war on the beach. Some of us were lucky enough to see dolphins behind the waves in the ocean.

A FEW WORDS FROM OUR SRC Haadi Mohamedali 1M This term was a fun term. Year 1 students started to get into reading lots of different books. We read lots of short stories in class. My favourite book that I read this term is called The Famous Five. It is a series book that has a lot of adventures in it. I am looking forward to doing more learning with my teachers and friends next term.

Aftash Hussein 2A Year 2 students really enjoyed the Drama in a box – Fairy Tale Incursion this term. I really liked the dressing up part. We got to dress up as different characters like a mouse, dragon and even a wizard. I am looking forward to doing lots more fun activities with my friends next term. I would like to do more fun sport related activities because I love playing sport. I also like to read books, so it would be great to be able to go and visit the school library next term and get back into reading at school!

Mariam Elzein 3S Some of my favourite Term 2 moments were when we made pizzas, boiling eggs, playing sport and getting my Stage Coordinator’s Award! I want next term to be super fun and calm. I am so excited I could EXPLODE! One of my personal goals for next term is to get my Bronze Award, and I am coming for that GOLD AWARD like I did last year!

Anosha Batool 4N Hi I’m Anosha. You all know me as your SRC. I will be talking about what I liked about Term 2 and what I’m looking forward to next term. I had so much fun in Term 2. It’s been a really good term being with my friends. We all loved skipping together and enjoyed our times together. Overall I loved the maths and science topics this term. I liked the way the sports events were held. This term I really enjoyed reading a book called Storm Boy with my classmates and my teacher Mrs Ali. Lastly, the excursion that the Year 4s went on was MIND BLOWING in my opinion. We did activities about air force, solids, liquids, friction and pull and push forces. I’m really excited for Hajj in Term 3. I’m also wondering what excursion the Year 4s will be having or if it could be an incursion. I’m looking forward to what topics we will be learning about in class. I’m looking forward to next term’s gymnastics program!

Israa Boussi 5T This term, Year 5s enjoyed doing a lot of projects. We got to make cool gold mining tools and build the tallest building made out of straws. Students worked together in their groups to create these things. We had to really be patient with each other and we also learnt to work as a group and to listen to other people’s ideas. What I am looking forward to next term is having lots of fun learning and playing with my friends.

NSW PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE Dear Parents and carers, What is the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge? The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The PRC is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. Students must read a certain number of books to complete the Challenge. Upon successful completion of the Challenge, students will be eligible for a PRC certificate in Term 4. When is the challenge? The 2021 Challenge opened to students on Monday March 1, 2021 and will close on Friday August 20, 2021. How does my child sign up? Students will receive their login shortly from their class teacher. Students will use their login to access their online profile and log the books they read online. What should my child read? Please encourage your children to read the books that have been shortlisted on the website prc@det.nsw.edu.au . Students can borrow books from the College library. Also, a trip to your local library is always a nice way to ensure you have the correct books, as they are easy to find. By encouraging and engaging all our students to partake in this initiative we hope to develop a greater love for reading and to further improve their literacy and vocabulary skills. If you need help using the website and the answer cannot be found on the PRC Support site, please contact us at the College on 9606 2666. Warm Regards Miss Balloot K-6 Literacy and Numeracy Instructional Leader
