Assalamu Alaykum Dearest Bellfield families, As you may be aware, our annual Walkathon has been postponed this Sunday due to wet weather conditions. Instead, we look forward to welcoming all families and friends to the College on Sunday 28th March for our Walkathon. This week, 15th – 21st March 2021 was Harmony Week. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. Bellfield College Junior School will be celebrating Harmony Week on Monday 22nd March. Unfortunately, due to unpredictable wet weather conditions, our Harmony Day Parent picnic has been cancelled. Instead, to celebrate Harmony Day, year 6 students will be selling cakes during recess and lunch to students and teachers, to help raise funds for their year 6 farewell. Please support our year 6 students. Students can purchase cakes with a gold coin donation. Please see the attached note for more information. As we approach the school holidays, it is important to keep our children safe and physically active. Please read on to learn more about health and safety tips and school holiday activities available through Campbelltown PCYC and an Inclusive play centre close by called Shine Shed. Have a lovely weekend and keep dry! Warm regards Miss Harold Head of Junior School

MRS STEVENSON DEPUTY HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Week 9 Focus At Bellfield we take care of our equipment and toys.

Assalamu Alaykum Dear Parents,

As I work closely with students, staff and parents, I am continually encouraged by the smiling faces and positivity that is at the heart of our College. The rainy weather during this week has meant that many of our regular play times and sport activities have had to change and I am so proud of the resilience shown by our students and staff.

Managing change, disappointment and disruption is a skill all people should have to be able get through life well. Our Positive Behaviour for Learning focus for Week 9 is: At Bellfield we take care of our equipment and toys. The College has purchased new sports and play equipment for our students to use. Staff are regularly reminding students to use equipment responsibly and pack away at the end of play. Being careful and respectful of property is an important part of Bellfield College rules.

Bus Safety All students, parents and drivers need to be Bus Aware and are reminded to follow all safety rules and directions from the bus driver. Over the five-year period up to June 2020, a total of 34 people were killed in crashes involving buses in NSW. Of the 34 fatalities, 15 were pedestrians. During the same five-year period, 362 people were seriously injured in bus crashes, including 69 pedestrians and 18 bicycle riders.

Adults always hold your child’s hand when crossing the road School-aged children might seem independent, but they still need a hand. Remember: Always meet your child AT school or the bus stop. NEVER wait on the opposite side of the road and call them across. Always supervise your child and hold their hand when walking to and from the bus stop or interchange and when crossing the road until they are at least 10. Wait until the bus has gone then use a safe place to cross the road. Kind regards, Mrs Natalie Stevenson Deputy Head of Junior School

LEARNING IN 3A! The wonderful students of 3A have now settled well and are ready to learn new and exciting things. They have learnt the school and classroom routines and expectations.

In Science, we are learning about the importance of BEES for the ENVIRONMENT! We looked into bees becoming extinct and how this could affect our favourite fruits. We became scientists and artists investigating the external features of bees and drawing realistic images. During our Geography lessons, we are learning about ‘Australia – The Lucky Country’. We had the chance to look at different maps and their purpose. We researched famous natural and man-made landmarks in Australia and where we could find them. As a class we discussed why tourists like to visit Australia, we looked at the climate, features that could be visited, the currency, etc. We researched one particular man-made feature in Sydney ‘The Sydney Opera House’ and wrote some interesting facts about it. We are learning more and more great information about our own country. Students have shown great interest in learning what our country has to offer. We are now working on creating an itinerary for tourists who would like to visit this WONDERFUL country!

ILLUMINATIONS' ENGAGEMENT Salaamun ‘Alaykum Dearest Parents, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all my sincerest and heartiest felicitations on the occasions of the birthdays of Imam Husain (as), Abul Fadhl Abbas (as) and Imam Ali Zainul Abideen (as). The school, as it always does, tries to inculcate a pure love for the Holy Ahlul Bayt and the special holy personalities who have numerous anecdotes that teach us many virtues. This week we experienced some lovely felicitous occasions at beginning of the Holy Month of Sha’baan and to celebrate: The Sheikh gave a lovely short talk, highlighting the benefits of this month through a special salaah (prayer) that can be prayed which allows a believer to achieve the reward of having all the doors of heaven opened and all the gates of hell shut and being blessed immensely.

Class 2A was also decorated with balloons and some lovely lights to mark the occasions and the kids were enjoying their recess whilst also reciting a beautiful salawaat. Warmest regards Ammar Keshvani

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY Assalmu Alaykum, Dear Parents, On Tuesday the 16th March, Bellfield College participated in our annual Clean up Australian Day event. Clean Up Australia has helped Australians take practical environmental action for over 30 years and is now the nation's largest community-based environmental event. Students spent part of their lunch time picking up rubbish around our school and were reminded that it is our responsibility to look after our environment and keep it clean. It was great to see students of all ages participating and taking initiative by bringing their own rubbish bag and gloves to this event. So let's all remember to STEP UP to CLEAN UP Warm regards Clean Up Australia Day Team
