Choose ONE category (and only ONE option from within a category) Junior School Category 1 – Creative writing - Option 1: Think about how you can be inspired by Lady Zainab or another one of Ashura’s heroes and write a letter to your future self. First decide how old you want your future self to be, then ask yourself questions, share your virtues and give some advice that you can learn from the heroes of Karbala. Remember, you are writing to yourself, so be casual and talk about who you are now. Size: A4 page and 300-500 words. - Option 2: Create a hero story inspired by Ashura. How can you, as a book artist and writer, create a hero inspired by a historical figure in Ashura that uses character strengths and lessons from the past to make the world a better place? Present your creative story as a written or picture book. Size: A4 page and maximum 300 words. Category 2 – Artwork - Option 1: Create an artwork representing one of the role models from Ashura by selecting one virtue they embody. You can involve your family in the creation of the artwork. Size: no larger than an ordinary poster (A1) for a collage/painting or 30x30cmx30cm for a sculpture. - Option 2: Create a mini game or video story involving a digital superhero representing one of the role models from Ashura. Use a claymation or stop motion video application. Video length: 1-3 minutes. Here is a useful app: https://scratch.mit.edu/ Category 3 –Performance - Select an Islamic Shia performance item relevant to Ashura, such as Qur’an recitation or virtue-based latmiyah. Choose something that also has a meaningful message to yourself. Think about the words and explain why you chose it. You can include your siblings and family members in your performance (remember to get their permission as the video will be seen by others). Video length: 1-3 minutes for the performance and 1-2 minutes for the explanation. Senior School Category 1 – Artwork - Option 1: Get your family involved and ask each person to select one figure from the events of Ashura and create a visual representation of their chosen figure. This can be a drawing or painting. The artwork should clearly show virtues associated with those key figures. Size: no larger than an ordinary poster (A1) for a drawing/painting. - Option 2: Create a hero-based artwork on the key figures involved in the events of Ashura. The work should also clearly indicate the virtues they possessed. This can be done as two pages in a comic layout or a movie poster. Size: minimum A3 page and no larger than an ordinary poster (A1). 3
