EDITOR’S VIEW
In times were things were not expected and confusion spreads unhealthy rumors we can go to those dark places. This issue hit me with two different hearts. One heavy and one field of hope. I made the title “Impress Me”, because we as artists need to produce during the times where humanity is at its darkest. During this time we will help give hope and entertain those who are shut in and are in pain. This issue is composed of a bunch of creators who in their own way give their talents to entertain and impress the next person. COVID-19 has taken over not only the world, but has it planted itself on our darkest imaginations. So let us be entertained. In this issue we will see different styles creativity and imagination. Everything from a six year old photographer in pink, amazing fashion editorial pieces like Dapper or Eternal Soulmates and great fashion concepts like Reveal, Human Phase, and King of New York, as well as artwork from CJ Hungerman. And last but not
least, we have sobering photo essays on how the coronavirus has affected big cities like New Orleans and New York. As a personal note, I take no political stance at this moment during one of the darkest times in humanity’s history. But I will tell everyone this: stay strong, stay home, be patient, keep a routine, stay safe and if you’re a praying person continue to pray and meditate each and every day. And now like the rest of you, IMPRESS ME.

NEW YORK STANDING STILL PHOTO ESSAY BY ELISA MARIE
THEME
Like many other photographers in New York City I took to the streets on March 25th to capture some of Manhattan’s most famous attractions amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Spots that were once filled with locals and tourists from all over the world now stand still. New York City houses magic. Today, I caught a glimpse of New York standing still. Normally, streets buzz with activity, commerce, and emotion. But, in this trying time, the City’s citizens make no hum, buy nothing but essentials, and save their feelings for another day. The steps of the Lincoln Center, the home of the Metropolitan Opera, say “Welcome” in many languages. The doors, however, remain locked. Suddenly, New York City became a Member’s Only Playground. Capturing these photos, I stopped in the middle of Broadway and looked down 44th St., seeing only a parked cop car in sight. I stood in the middle of 5th Ave waiting for the city’s essential workers to pass by an empty public library.
. I explored Grand Central Station and stared up at its magnificent architecture. I felt a sense of wonder. While the sun began to set and I made way back home a feeling of emptiness washed over me. The novelty wore off quickly once I remembered why the streets were so empty. In the midst of a pandemic, a city that usually takes to the streets to come together, in good times and bad, have been forced to retreat to their apartments. New York City these days may feel drastically different as we adjust to the new normal but we are still in this together, even when we self-isolate. Instead of taking to the streets, New Yorkers take to their balconies and fire escapes to cheer on those who cannot stay home. New Yorkers always come together when it matters most. New Yorkers make magic.
