Former mobile only boutique owner

Kimberly Parker establishes roots in the East Nashville community with new brick-and-mortar store, Sisters of Nature. Former mobile boutique owner Kimberly Parker establishes roots in the East Nashville community with new brick-and-mortar store, Sisters of Nature

“This is actually my dream job. I tell my husband every week, ‘Can you believe I’m actually doing this?’” says a smiling Kimberly Parker before throwing her head back and letting loose a loud and bright laugh. “I have seriously wanted to do this my whole life. Even when I was really little I used to say I wanted to be a maker.”

Lucky for her, fate and her dreams appear to have been tangled up in one another, as she is now the proud new owner of the brickand-mortar clothing store, Sisters of Nature, on the corner of Gallatin and Stratford avenue in East Nashville.

Spending an hour with Kimberly is like running into your best friend from high school and catching up over a cup of coffee—that is, assuming your best friend is a free spirit, into fashion, and the nicest person in town.

The moment I walked into her shop, Kimberly gave me a big italian hug, and I knew that this interview would be a high spot of my day. “When I was a kid, even before I could drive, I made handbags and I loaded them up on my bike. I’d take them around and try to get some boutiques to sell them. A few of them took me up on it and did carry my collections, and I even got some coverage in a few magazines,” Kimberly pauses to brush her long brown waves behind her shoulders and adjust her pencil-thin headband. “I’ve always loved making things, but it was always a side thing for me. My entire life my mom was always telling me, ‘You have to own some type of creative business some day.’” With followers all over the country, Kimberly hopes to bring the Sisters of Nature experience to customers from coast to coast. “I’d love for the online store to take off so that we people all across the country can have a little bit of Sisters of Nature.”

If nothing else at all, Kimberly is simply grateful. “I love the creative vibe going on here in Nashville; it’s really evident and encouraging. You have lots of people who appreciate this type of thing, and I really wanted to be here in East Nashville for that reason. I’m really hoping I can continue to create and curate and grow in this amazing community around me.”

Kristen Frasca rocks it with New York hermiker diamonds. Fernweh Jewels encompasses modern style with retro class. With minimal design features, water clear stones nestled into a simple hammered band, secured with a strong sterling silver crossbar. In the ground-foor workshop of Nashvillebased local brand Fernweh Jewels, Frasca is busy with a hammer, keeping time to the music in her headphones. Frasca and her small power team could be an experimental

art collective—instead, they’re meticulously crafting a limited-edition service that retails for civil prices.

“I bring minimal elements to my pieces in order to honor the quality of the stones,” says 29-year-old silversmith Kristen Frasca, over a series of preparatory sketches. “I want my work to exude the mission of being organic, handmade, and local jewelry that showcases beautiful herkimer diamonds.” When she is asked about her love and use for herkimer

diamonds she suprised us with her perspective, “I have such a deep love for the Herkimer stone. I was so tired of the same diamond cut gems and I longed for something that is closer connected with nature. The frst second I saw a raw Herkimer I was in love. There’s something so inspiring about the fact that it comes out of the earth, so brilliant and raw. I wanted to create a design that honored the integrity of the stone itself not weighting it down with thick prongs or bars, just a simple band with a simple stone. I love the idea of wearing a piece of nature, carrying a little bit of creation itself with you always. “

In the past year, she has really come a long way with developing her brand, creating collections, and plugging into the community. Keep a look out for her beautiful pieces at Sisters of Nature Boutique in Nashville, Tennessee. For more information about Frasca you can check her out online at her website ferwehjewels.com.
