A guide to moving safely and happily with pets.
TIME TO MOVE?
Moving is exciting, but it can be stressful for our four-legged friends. Follow these tips to keep your pet safe and content on your journey.
NO STRESS
Secure your pet inside the room and keep the door closed to keep stress levels at a minimum until it is time to leave.
CONTAIN
Keep your pets in sturdy, familiar carriers while on the road to keep them safe, calm, and unable to distract you from driving.
COMFORT
If your pet does not do well or is uncomfortable in carriers, use a seatbelt harness or a good supply of comfy blankets.
POTTY BREAKS
Plan frequent stops for pet (and people) potty breaks. Getting out for some excercise on long trips helps, too.
KEEP CLEAN
Be sure to bring plenty of waste bags, potty pads, and cleaning products, just in case there happens to be an accident.
MEDICATION
Keep your petʼs medication and food handy in the car with you and your pet, not packed away in the moving van.
STAY COOL
Bring a cooler for medications, food, and treats, for both you and your pets. Be sure to keep it somewhere easily attainable.
DISTRACTION
Bring small distractions such as your petʼs favorite treats and toys. These will help keep your pet calm and pass the time on your trip.
FAMILIARITY
On move in day, be sure to have something that belongs to your pet waiting for them upon arrival, such as a familiar toy and/or bed.
