Hello

My name is Jake Epaphras Tennessee Kennedy. This is a collection of eleven of my best works made this school year. I hope you enjoy this work and thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to do so.

Now, on with the show.

y Vote Campaign

For this project were tasked to create a campaign that would encourage young people to vote instead of just skipping out like a staggering portion of the population does. To accomplish this, we took pictures of students in the school and made up a story that someone of our generation may have. The ads mark out the negative descriptors to provide the contrary story. A website and an app were mocked up as well, but

because Joshua was the man who built the latter, I left the app off of this page. It was fun and a great experience in having a team that actually split the load in contrast to other group experiences in the past.

Crumble Magazine

This assignment was to create a new magazine, its table of contents and two spreads. From the beginning I wanted it to be warm and book-like, hence the color and odd shape. The idea of the magazine would be that it gives a brand new set of a dozen themed recipes every month, and you could collect them to refer to later. I also wanted it to be largely illustrated so it has a bit of a homemade feeling.

Comet Cones

Comet Cones was a fun project. We had to create businesses to make an entire brand for. I invented a retrofuturistic autonomous ice cream mobile, Comet Cones. It could be summoned via a smartphone app and had this truck that required no driver so the entire inside could be filled with soft serve ice cream. I also designed the stationary, business cards, envelopes and the like. This was fun to make and flesh out.

CSS Zen Garden

The CSS Zen garden is an interesting beast. The challenger must take this non-descript HTML and without editing the file, make it look great using only CSS. I designed mine after Ukiyo-e woodblock prints. The challenge was pretty difficult. It takes quite a bit of conniving to get the most basic things to look the way you want it to when you can’t touch the HTML. It was good practice.

The Iron Giant

For this project we had to make a website for a movie, band, or television show. I chose to make one for what I consider to be the best animated movie I have ever seen. I really wanted to emphasize the height of the Giant. So each page causes the position of the giant to go up in a way that may not be immediately obvious. We also needed to learn a new code, php, to simulate a mailing list.

Jasmin Web Design

Jasmin Web Design was a project where we needed to design and code a website with the intent of making it responsive, which is to have the layout change so that it looks well on any screen size, which is extremely useful to know. Beyond that, I styled the website after a keyboard while adding a bit of humor to the About Us page.

ADVERTISING POLITICS

Advertising Politics Infographic

This inforgraphic was made to compare the cost of and attitude towards political advertising. It turns out back in the day it was heavily frowned upon and people felt it was demeaning. However, it got Eisenhower a large portion of voters so others followed suit. It was an interesting topic to learn about and it was good to make this when the idea was set. My favorite part of this infographic is the anthropomorphized televisions

standing in for a president. I didn’t want people to think this graph was attacking anyone.

Assorted logos

The 615 FIT logo was for a fictional crossfit gym. I wanted to emulate the text I’d seen on the walls of another similar gym. The green is for a green wall that is in this hypothetical gym. which I took to be some sort of signature.

Untied was for a unnamed fictional monthly box of ties that you could select and return what you didn’t like. So, I created a logo that could be assorted and altered slightly with each month’s colors and styles of ties.

Molly Abrahams is a fictional personal chef who specializes in French foods. I wanted her logo to be round and welcoming, and the “O” inside her name could be filled with various round foods.

Roundabout is the final one, and it is my favorite. It is for a fictional Segway tour company without a name. They didn’t want their logo to be specifically for Segway’s as they planned to expand in the future. I made a path through the “O”s of the word to emulate a tour lapping back to the start.

Threejs Project

Threejs is this odd language used to create three dimensional objects in a web browser. For our assignment we had to create some of these objects and use them in a website in some way. I, of course, created a Choose Your Own Adventure Game. It’s pretty simple, but it was a fun project that I wrote and narrated.

Box Defenestration

Created for a book arts class, I made a book that becomes a bit of a story. A rhinoceros throws a box out of his window in anger for some unexplained reason. Perhaps it has something to do with his spouse, whose image is down at the base. The rhino and the word “beautiful” had to be included as per instruction. So invented this scenario. The pop up house is my favorite part about this design. It was a solution to a flat packing

problem I had, and I solved it with several prototypes and no Internet. I will leave this in Room 706 for closer inspection. The work is quite tall, however. So you may want to practice caution if you try to extend it completely.

Music CitY Hot Chicken Festival

This poster for the upcoming Hot Chicken Festival was just fun. Humor is the best thing about drawing. So, of course drawing a chicken exploding with fire like the Looney Toons would be a hoot. Of course, this is the tenth anniversary of the festival. So I wanted that prominently displayed. I’m glad about how it turned out, especially considering how fowl my earlier sketches seemed to be.
