Infograph
Infograph about the bacteria Yersina Pestis.
A facultative anaerobic organism that can infect humans via the oriental rat flea. It causes the disease plague, which takes three main forms.
When the bacteria enter the bloodstream directly and multiply there, it’s known as septicemic plague. When they’re left untreated, both bubonic and pneumonic plague can lead to septicemic plague.
The most common form of plague is bubonic, it can be contracted from an infected rodent, flea, or human.
Bubonic plague infects your lymphatic system, causing inflammation in your lymph nodes. It can move into the blood (septicemic) or to the lungs (pneumonic).
By frequency
pneumonic plague. The bacteria then can be expelled into the air from coughing or even breathing. Other people who breathe that air can contract it, which leads to an epidemic.
Septicemic plague appears in two to seven days after exposure, but can lead to death before symptoms appear.
Symptoms include Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, extreme weakness, bleeding, skin turning black (gangrene)
Bubonic plague appears in two to six days after exposure.
Symptoms include Fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, weakness, seizures painful, swollen lymph glands (buboes)
Pneumonic plague appears one day after exposure.
Symptoms include Trouble breathing, chest pain, cough, fever, headache, overall weakness, bloody sputum (mucus or pus from the lungs)
During Black Death, it was referred to as “the Great Mortality” or “the Pestilence.” Many thought it was a punishment from God for the sins of the people.
Cats and rats were very vulnerable to the virus. Dogs, however, could be bitten by infected fleas due to a natural resistance to the plague.
Bathing was believed to open the pores, making it easier for bad air to enter and exit the body, spreading disease.
Yersinia Pestis infects a flea by blocking its stomach. The flea tries repeatedly to feed, but the blockage causes it to regurgitate bacilli into its host. When the host dies, the flea and its offspring seek a new host, infesting humans when necessary.
