Unliteral Self Portrait An illustrated self-portrait, but couldn’t a literal self-portrait. So I filled it with a load of stuff that I like and things that make me who I am.

Radical Dinos

Created a pattern based on an existing illustration. I took my skateboarding stegosaurus (below) and used it as the starting point. Just really wanted that 90s vibe.

Tutti Frutti

We were creating a zine about lesser known R&B and soul roots in Nashville that get overshadowed by country music. Each of took a musician who played or had a residency in Nashville and illustrated a portrait. I did one of Little Richard.

Everything is Awful

Front and back cover for a fictitious album for The Decemberists. Based on a song about the end of the world with the line “Will we now build a civilization below ground.”

What a Hipster... Create a Guitar Hero character based on combination of any subculture and music genre. I created a Hipster Folk musician with one magically glorious beard.

Nex the Super Awesome Mecha-Cat Worked in a group to design characters as if designing for an educational children’s company. Each person was responsible for one character, and create an evolution of the character for older kids. Nex is suppose to promote STEM. I made her a robo-cat to be fun and approachable for kids.

The Fishman Cometh... Had to create two characters that fit within two archetypes with one being the hero. Hero (right)- a plucky young girl with a spork for a nose on a quest to find her father Threshold Guardian (left)- a river guardian who our hero must face on her quest

The Cushion Crusader Each of in class were pitted against each other in a Battle Royale . We had to create a Street Fighter-esque character based on ourselves. Then give them a name, place of origin, and special attack power. Name: The Cushion Crusader Origin: Grandma’s House Power: Will fight you with a Wrapping Paper Tube

Mine for Knowledge! Created characters based on what we came up with in a workshop with Lorelumin. Hill Creature (left)- a friendly little creature who lives in the forest Knowledge Miner (right)- an explorer who mines for lost and forgotten knowledge

Things got Pretty Weird From There Designs for a couple of the zodiac. Started with the idea of making them sideshow attractions. It got really weird really fast. Pisces (left) and Aries (right)

Positives and Negatives

Had to design a positive character and a negative character. The challenge was to give the positive character negative or unappealing characters and give the negative character appealing or bright colors.

Tin Can Man (left)Positive character saving the world one green bean at a time. Used Car Salesman (right)- Negative; used car salesman, probably sells fake Rolexes. Just all around con-man.
