SHOWING WHERE WE GO TO SCHOOL,
HOW WE LIVE,
AND HOW WE PLAY.
In the year 1921, there came to this campus, then that of WardBelmont, one who was destined to render many years of invaluable service and to endear herself to the hearts of thousands of young people.
A graduate of Ward Seminary, she returned to Ward Belmont School to give nearly thirty years of untiring services in the bookroom, the Registrar's Office and in the bank. In 1951 when Tennessee Baptists took over the college, she became Hostess of Heron Hall, the boys' dormitory, and for two years was mother, nurse and private consultant to "her boys." Now she is school hostess and daily receives guests who may hear from her, as from no one else, Belmont's history and traditions.
It is wonderful to know that she is ours, but more wonderful still to know that in her heart we are hers. So it is with deep love that we dedicate the 1954 REBEL to Mrs. Henriette Bryan, Our Hostess.
u R p R E s I D E N T
Since coming to Belmont, Dr. White has exercised his friendly manner and warm smile in such a way as to win the love and admiration of all. Much of the Christian atmosphere which pervades our campus can be attributed to his efforts and exmple. We salute Dr. White as president of our wonderful, young and growing Belmont College.

Belmont is a young college. We are grateful for the traditions of culture and learning we have inherited from our predecessors. Our roots are in the past, but we grow i oward the future. Next year we graduate our first senior class and to them we dedicate this page of THE REBEL.

The Belmont basketball team made an outstanding record for itself in its second year of collegiate competition, always showing a fine spirit of sportsmanship and an eqaully fine spirit of competition. Each player displayed fine teamwork and
T B A L L
this fact often brought the team through to victory.
Under the leadership of Coach Striplin and Captain Barnes the team managed, though playing outstanding teams suc h as We stern Kentucky,
to comple+e the seaso n with a 17 - 13 won-lost record and to come in Runner Up in the Blue and Gray lnvi+ational tournament. (In this tournament the Rebels placed three players, Jones, Gross, and Barn es on the five-man all-tournament team, and Barnes received the honor of being chosen the tournament' s most valuable player.)
Our basketball team is now a well-established part of Belmont. It s beginning and rapid rise parallels that of the college itself, and its future i s sure ly as bright.
