James White ince arriving at Belmont Hill four years ago, Mr. White has certainly had his hands full. He's had to get ALL of us into college, which is no easy task. And sure, he's had to use his share of intimidation tactics ("I'll cut your heads off and make you screw them on straight if you don't get me your essays by Monday"), but let's be honest--the reality is, behind his tough, gruff demeanor is a big, sweet, cuddly teddy bear. Advisor, coach, friend, thug-for-hire--all are among the many contributions Mr. White has brought to the Belmont Hill community. His office door has always been open, and his willingness to exhaust all of his efforts, to make every phone call necessary to help each individual student is outstanding. The college process can be incredibly stressful and tiring, but Mr. White, amazingly, has made it much less so. He is one of the hardest-working faculty members, and for his efforts, the class of 2005 would like to dedicate this year's Sundial to Mr. James White.

Dedications

Jorge Montoya s hard as it can be for a teacher to juggle coaching a varsity level sport and teaching multiple sections ofa course, Mr. Montoya does so successfully and honorably. Known on the field and within the classroom as Senor, Mr. Montoya is well noted for his easygoing nature, which allows students to respect him as a teacher, but also approach him as they might a peer. Whether he is helping you with a translation or just getting caught up on the latest Belmont Hill gossip, Mr. Montoya will listen to anything any student offers, and to speak with him be it in Spanish or English. At the rare chance you were to test his patience, you might be castigated with a warning ofa yellow card, but such an action surely befollowed by Mr.Montoya's warm, composed smile.

The Patriot's Rosevelt Colvin signing an autograph for Mr. Goodband

Letter From the Head

A different year, a different kind of greeting. Together we two, who have served to lead the school in the 2004-2005 school year, send our greetings to readers of the 2005 Yearbook. Since this welcome gets written of course before the year has ended, Mr. Goodband offers thanks for the good first semester that the school enjoyed — and Mr. Melvoin offers thanks in advance for a second semester that is strong, solid, healthy, DC-free, warm, sunny.... Already the Class of 2005 has distinguished itself in many ways, and we hope that such distinctions remain positive well beyond commencement in June. To all readers, then, we send our greetings from this special School atop the Hill, and we hope that the pages that follow offer warm memories of the 82nd year in the life of Belmont Hill.

Belmont Hill Football The Belmont Hill Varsity Football Team had a successful 6 - 2 season this year despite the fact that it had one of its toughest schedules in memory; seven of the eight teams had a 68% winning record. Belmont Hill had big wins over Milton Academy(29 - 15), BBN (36 - 25), and Roxbury Latin (35 - 7). Even the two losses to St. Sebastians, held at Boston College, and the final game of the year vs. GDA to decide the league champs on a snowplowed field, were memorable events. The senior group, in particular the captains, Will Forde, Garrett Hatton, and Dan McDonald, did an excellent job of providing leadership and direction during the season. The football program would like to thank George Tahan and Bob Cressey in the Athletic Department, Chip Tarbell (field maintenance), Ed Doherty (trainer's room), Tom Kaveney (equipment room) and their respective staffs for their assistance and attention. In addition, a special thank you to all the parents, faculty and fans who supported the team. The following boys received recognition for their play during the season: All New England Barry Gallup Dan Williams Garrett Hatton Nate Newburg Dan Williams

All ISL Will Forde Barry Gallup

All ISL Honorable Mention Nnabugwu Ekwelum Corey Gatewood Taylor Glor Dan McDonald Field Yates

Having lost many talented runners to graduation last year, the expectations for the 2004 cross country running team were modest. However, the marked improvement of Nyadenya Inyagwa, Sam Baker, Francisco del Castillo, Nils Wernerfelt, and David Terwilliger helped the squad exceed pre-season expectations. The last —minute addition ofjunior Eric McKenna really made a significant difference in terms of our success this fall. In fact, Eric immediately became our second runner, finishing all of his races close behind Nyadenya Inyagwa all season long. As the season got underway, the team had little difficulty in defeating nearly all of the fifteen I.S.L. teams, with relatively easy victories over Middlesex, Brooks, Milton, and several other opponents. As usual, St. Paul's and Groton dominated the competition at the top of the pack. However, we finished with a record of 12 wins and 3 losses in the dual-meet season leading up to the league championships in early November. With one of our top seven runners out for the I.S.L. championship meet, we finished fourth place over'all, although our third-place standing in the league at the conclusion of the regular season was a better indicator of our surprising success this year. We thought we would be lucky to finish seventh before the meets began in late September. On a snow-covered course at the Canterbury school, the Belmont Hill runners competed in the New England Division 2 championships a week after the I.S. L. meet. Here, we finished fifth out of a field of twenty-four teams. As a result, our overall record at the end of the season stood at 34 wins and 7 losses. At the championship meets, junior runner Nyadenya Inyagwa earned all-League and all New England honors. Nyadenya, along with Francisco del Castillo and Eric McKenna will represent Belmont Hill cross country as tri- captains next year. Coaches Harder, Trautz and Kirby wish to thank senior Nils Wernerfelt for his great leadership as Co-Captain this year. With a more veteran squad returning next year, we look forward to an even more successful season in 2005.

Soccer Coach's Corner 2004

The 2004 soccer season turned out to be one of the most competitive seasons in ISL history- with 8 teams near the top of the standings, still battling for first place late in the season. BH finished with a record of 10-3-2 narrowly missing a berth to the New England Prep. School Tournament. The success achieved this year has to be attributed to the large group of experienced seniors who played their hearts out every game. Undoubtedly, this will be a tough group to replace. Tri-captains and ISL all-stars Jake Duker and David Chadwick served the team as great role models. Jake, who garnered the title of ISL MVP as well as team MVP, was an instrumental part of our potent offense by leading the team in scoring. David played a leading role in our midfield and scoring departments. Another one of our tri-captains Grayson Holland was instrumental on defense as well as in the midfield by providing some well needed experience with his superb defensive capabilities. Nick Leader was very consistent in goal all season and headed a well organized and very strong defense, composed of next year captains: Matt Lewis and Mark Crane along with Andrew DesBois and Dean Koutris. In the midfield we had some exciting new talent with two third formers, Giuseppe Guerriero and Jack Wendler. Rounding off the midfield with more impressive talent were Leo DesBois, Matt O'Connell and second leading scorer Bear Duker. This is a sad time of the year when we have to say goodbye to all of the seniors who have contributed throughout the years. Heartfelt best wishes go to: Nick Leader, Sean Clancy, Grayson Holland, Jake Duker, John DeWitt, David Chadwick, Dean Koutris and Chris Ritchie. They have been a terrific group to work with, and will surely be missed. A well-deserved congratulation goes out to all the members of this year's soccer team for a superb job. I want to give special thanks to Coach Goodband, Michael Grant and Goalie Coach Montanaro for their constant dedication and wisdom.

enior We have endured, persevered, suffered, and sweated out these burdensome years at Belmont Hill. Some of us have been here for six years, some for three years. In any case, the memories and friendships that we have made with our classmates and teachers will last us a lifetime. It does seem crazy that Pags could possibly be a best man in someone's wedding. Although we are all marching off into our new lives in college, we will have collectively left behind a tremendous legacy that will never be forgotten. The majority of us arrived on September 1st, 1999 as fresh-faced boys ready for a new experience. We attended our first classes during the day and went to our first practices that afternoon. The 5th football team observed Brian McCafferty dominating his fellow teammates while simultaneously listening in disbelief to Dan Sutherland's boasts that he could run 40 miles per hour. When the winter came, our 5th hockey team observed Andrew Cody show up for the last ten minutes of practice, only to answer "Crisp Pass" and do ten pushups before skating off after a hard days work. Other memories of Form I include our excursion to Chewonki (last class to do so), hearing Mr. Marsh's unbelievable stories about playing the Russians, and seeing a pudgy G-Hat get the salting of a lifetime by Ed Kirby at Prize Day. Losing Dan Sutherland and Bennett Whitley to free agency was devastating, but we signed tremendous prospects such as JT, Clancy, Aldrich, Jafri, and a few members of the Reading Mafia(Gent and Skullet). The eighth grade year proved to be quite mundane as we were no longer precious squeakers. Everyone faced the complete hell of IPS with its grotesquely difficult tests. However,Ambo's frequent octave changes, coupled with his "Raging Monster" demo kept us laughing. None of us will ever forget Dan Mee firing a paper wasp on the NYC trip that came inches from leaving a permanent mark in Mr. Gallagher's head. All of us would mourn the loss of Ms. McGuire, who left Belmont Hill School to work in the Andes because the Mock Convention angered her so greatly. A large contingency of students joined our class as the 9th grade year began. We all lost a friend when Gregory Feldman took his lanky, humorous self to Philips Andover. Mr. Tredennick instructed us (i.e. screamed at us) to be the leaders of the lower school and set excellent examples for the younger boys in the school. The tragedy of 9/11 touched us all at Belmont Hill as we watched al-Qaeda terrorists destroy the Twin Towers. Our way of life seemed to be threatened but the Belmont Hill community strengthened itself and persevered through our nation's hardship. The annual trip to Becket provided us all with countless humorous moments. Our class will forever be indebted to Geoff Gillman for his unbelievable "Dechets" chant on the ride home from Becket. Form 3 would be the last year that any of us would be able to witness the fantastic intellect of Pat Kimball, who will always remain a legend at our school solely because of his "flow", slurred words, and his ability to remove his thumb in order to skip the Becket trip so that he could play in a hockey tournament. For those of us who played 3rd baseball, we will never forget "sandlot ball", the end/Tess triangles, and Geddy throwing the ball at Kelley after getting spiked.

Story The Form IV year marked our transition from the depths of the stringent Lower school to the glorious heights of freedom in the Upper School. We would all leave behind Mrs. Callahan and be introduced to the unforgettable Mr. Cliff Goodband. He would serve as a mentor, friend, and coach for the next three years as well as being THAT guy who busted us at every lunch for our petty crimes. Losing the Reading Mafia was devastating, but the addition of a Ponder and Lais increased our class' comedic value(and JV hockey depth). Our class also added an incredible exchange student by the name of Dave Chadwick, who may be the only student ever to drop an entire grade. Although this academic year was supposed to be a transition year, we were still bombarded with gargantuan amounts of Bio AP homework from Doc. Doc always alleviated the pain of his brutal tests with a"0000,dats good!". During the spring of this year, Colin Treseler would deliver his presidential speech in which he told us that he was the most well-rounded person EVER.That speech will go down in history Colin, nice job. Many of us were also introduced to the phrases "she completes me" and "she dictates the way I feel". These little tidbits from the Pagliarulo love book made everyone's knees buckle in laughter. Everyone in our class will always hold a place in their heart for Darren Douglas Gallup, who passed away on February 15, 2003. This successful young man had touched our hearts for years on the fields and in the classroom with his smile and kindness. To lose him in such a tragedy deeply affected us all, but we forged on as a class and did everything that we could to help out his bereaved family. Form V year was the biggest grind of our lives. None of us will ever have to do that amount of work again in our lives. From the first day ofjunior year to the last exam,I heard Mr. White and Mr. Butler say that "this year is really important". Aside from countless hours of work per day, Form V was a successful year athletically as we won many ISL championships. It was also a year in which members of our class became competitive over everything as they attempted to glorify their college transcript.(we need some more here yearbook staff). Known as only "N 0double F", Nicholas Tarnoff threw down so many times in his senior year that MTV will premiere a new reality show soon called "Noffapalooza". On a sadder note, our class lost Michael Gedman after junior year. He had been with us since seventh grade and his funny remarks would never be forgotten. Many of us started the senior year upbeat and ready to start the college search process. However, some of us realized that we actually had to go to college. The reality is that we just had to start looking around for schools that fit us. In its quest for an ISL championship, the football team started off the year on a hot streak and battled hard against St. Seb's at Alumni Stadium. Our class has forged an identity as a group of intelligent, diligent, caring, athletic men who have a penchant for having fun and telling jokes(or Habitat stories). As we depart from Belmont Hill School in June, none of us should forget the memories, nor should we forget the friendships that have been cultivated. Instead, we should cherish everything here and move on to face the challenges ahead of us. 149

HOCKEY SEASON 2005

This year's final record for the varsity hockey team was 15-11-1. The team was lead by senior captains Brian McCafferty, J.T. Balben and junior Matt Gordon. These captains were outstanding leaders as they brought the team together. They made everyone welcome, and they valued each player for his contributions to the team. In the end the success of the team depended on each player contributing towards the team effort. It seemed that each player had a special game when he stepped up and carried the team to a victory. Goalies junior Wes Vesprini, and sophomores Chris Venti and Matt Gedman all did a solid job in the net. Senior Chris DeBaere was injured for part of the season, but he was a valuable scorer and play maker. Senior Brian McCafferty along with juniors Matt Gordon and Ryan Young received all league status at the end of the year, and senior J.T. Balben, junior Wes Stephanian along with sophomore Kevin McNamara were given honorable mention. The highlight of the season came at the Nichols-Belmont Hill Tournament where the team won all five games in Buffalo and took home the championship trophy. The team beat St. Andrew's in the semi-finals, and we were their only loss of the season. Next year the tournament will return to the Belmont Hill campus. Once home from the tournament, the team continued to win and won 10 out of 11 games. Exams and snowstorms made for two weeks without a game, and caused the team lose its momentum. Two exciting victories over St. Sebastian's displayed the players' talent and determination. The season ended with a victory over BB&N. This year's team was a highly skilled with great passing and skating. These players knew how to share the puck and make great plays. We had some of the most beautiful passing plays that ended up as goals. I enjoyed coaching this team as much as any team in recent history. Next year's team will return 9 sophomores and 6juniors. I am looking forward already to coaching next year's team which will be led by senior captains Matt Gordon, Wes Stephanian and David Antonelli.

2004-2005

This season marked one of the finest in the history of Belmont Hill Squash. Boasting five returning lettermen, strong senior leadership and several nationally-ranked junior players, the script for success seemed certain when practices began in late November. Coasting to an easy victory in the nine-school I.S.L. preseason Jackson Tournament in December buoyed the teams confidence. Yet, a combination of illnesses injuries and absences rocked the team in January. It would turn out that of the 21 matches played, the Belmont Hill varsity was only able to field its full team for eight of them. Reliance on team depth was demonstrated early on with close 4-3 victories over league rivals St. Paul's and Nobles. Equally narrow wins over Choate and archrival Groton further demonstrated the team's deep talent level. Every player from #1 down to #9 had a hand in close victories throughout the season. When the last team match was played out at Milton in late February, Belmont hill had captured its second straight I.S.L. league title, going undefeated in league play for the second straight year and compiling a match record of 19-2, the most wins ever by any Belmont Hill squash team. The highlight of the season occurred with the team finally at full strength for the Junior Nationals Team Tournament, held at Yale University in mid-February. Victories over highly ranked Taft School (CT.) and Haverford School (Pa.) earned Belmont Hill 3rd place out the 24 most competitive prep school squash programs in the country. Though eventual champion Lawrenceville School (N.J.), with several international players, and perennially unbeatable Brunswick School (Ct.) finished at the top, there was no doubt to all that Belmont Hill had assembled a formidable squash team of their own. Two weeks later the team ended their season with a fourth place finish at the New England Interscholastics, largely the result of playing without #3 Ryan Dowd, who had suffered a season-ending injury at the Jr. Nationals. John DeWitt(#5), Captain Frank Cohen (#4), and John Fulham (#2) were finalists at their positions, while Mark Froot won at the #1 position, thus becoming the 4th individual Interscholastic champion in the school's history. Mark was also voted the Boston Globe all-Scholastic boys' squash player, succeeding last years senior captain, Chessin Gertler for this honor. Belmont Hill also landed a record four players on the I.S.L.. all league team (Froot, Fulham, Dowd and Cohen). Rounding out the team were seniors Nils Wernerfelt(#6)and Chris Ritchie(#8)and juniors Thai Ha-Ngoc (#7) and Eli Meltz(#9). All contributed significant victories throughout the season. All had a strong hand in the team's overall success. Special thanks go out to Mark Nary for his three seasons of contributions to the coaching and general well-being of the varsity squash team. Gratitude should also be expressed to the wonderfully supportive and road weary group of parents the squash program has been blessed with the past few years.

Losing only one starter from last year's 15-7 team, the varsity basketball team held high hopes for the 2004-2005 season. Although it went into the year short-handed with injuries to senior co-captain Will Forde and junior forward Rob Glor, the team still managed to start off the winter with six wins in a row. Among the highlights of this early run were four-year starter Sean Clancy scoring the 1000th point of his illustrious career and the team's first win against Nobles in seven tries. The week after the exciting win against Nobles, the team captured their second consecutive Rivers Holiday Tournament championship, with Clancy winning the MVP for the second year in a row. After a disappointing performance at the St. Sebastian's tournament in which Taylor Glor also suffered an injury, the team rebounded with 6 straight wins to push their record to 13-2, 7-0 in the ISL. After a narrow defeat to league co-champion St. Mark's, the Hill won two more games before falling to the other ISL co-champion Thayer. Closing by winning its final 5 games with Forde and Taylor Glor back, the team finished in third place in the ISL at 13-2 and with the best record in school history, 20-4. Finishing in fourth place in New England Class C, Belmont earned a first-round match with Brunswick, held at a neutral site at Kingswood-Oxford in Hartford. There the Hill was defeated 81-72 by an amazing shooting performance from Brunswick. Despite the early exit from New Englands, the basketball team enjoyed a very successful season. Finishing with a record of 20-5, the team was helped by many great individual performances throughout the season. Clancy ended his illustrious 4 years with the team with 1,361 career points, and he led the ISL this year in total assists, with 72. Hitting 41.5% of his threes, Jamie Waters qualified as the fifth-most accurate three-point shooter in the league. Corey Gatewood led the league with 3.3 steals per game, and Daniel Williams finished 5th in blocks with 1.7. Clancy, Gatewood, and Williams were given allISL designation, and Grayson Holland won the Henry B. Sawyer Sportsmanship Award, and Waters took home the Coaches'Award. Next year's captains, Matt Dillon and Williams, look to lead returning players Taylor Glor, Rob Glor, Gatewood, Steve Cusano, Mark Wachtmeister, Kevin Johnson, Andrew Cornelia, Nick Vasquez, Chris Brown and eighth-grader Austin Carroll, to a very bright future and an excellent opportunity to build on this year's team success and learn from their loss in the New Englands. NORDIC SKIING 2005

The 2004-5 edition of the Belmont Hill Cross-country Ski Team surpassed expectations set at the beginning of the season, improving with each week and peaking at exactly the right time as the championships approached in mid- February. With returning seniors Alex Grause, Colin Treseler, and Max Thayer we had a solid nucleus as the season got underway. It was soon apparent, however, that Anthony Biondolillo, who had to sit out last year with an injury would provide the depth necessary to take our hopes to a new level, ultimately. The early races at Weston Ski Track with the Eastern Mass public school squads established us as a solid team, but one which lacked the necessary spark to finish first in most of the early competition. Grause and Treseler consistently finished in the top five of •the more than eighty skiers competing each Wednesday, but the back of the pack, while usually finishing in the top fifteen did not yet furnish us with the requisite strength to truly dominate. In fact, we suffered an especially embarrassing loss to a very deep Concord-Carlisle squad in mid January in addition to a few close races to Dover Sherborn and Newton North. All that was to change abruptly in just two short weeks as annual the Eastern High School Sprints approached. On that warm Wednesday in mid February the team finally reached its potential. Max Thayer and Anthony Biondolillo skied extremely well finishing in second place in their respective heats in the preliminaries. Anthony also went on to finish second in the semi-finals earning him Treseler, and Grause spots in the finals. In the finals, the top twenty skiers of the afternoon raced fiercely, and at the end Grause took first place and Treseler third. Grause was awarded the most valuable skier of the entire competrition with Treseler winning a trophy for finishing third. Junior Dan Lin and freshman Robbie Stone added valuable points in their heats as well. After correcting a clerical error, which had Concord - Carlisle finishing first, it was determined that Belmont Hill had taken first place in the team competition. Two weeks later the team traveled to Gould Academy ,in Bethel, Maine for the New England Championships. The competition featured a combination of ski academies and non-ski academies. Belmont Hill finished fifth of the sixteen teams and first among the non-ski academies to end a very successful season. Further honors came to Grause and Treseler who were selected to compete on the Eastern States High School team in March. Coaches Kirby and Zamore want to thank Alex Grause and Max Thayer for their leadership as captains this year. We also want to congratulate Dan Lin and Anthony Biondolillo , who were selected as next year's captains.

Independent School League Dual Meet Champions 2001 2002 2004

Craves-Kelsey Tournament Team Champions 1969 1977 1997

Wrestling 2004 —2005 Captained by seniors Jonathan Ferrick, Garrett Hatton and Dan McDonald, the Varsity Wrestling team enjoyed another strong season. An early season loss to St. Paul's proved the only blemish on the ISL calendar and one that strengthened their determination and resolve. En route to a 2nd place finish in the league and a 15-2 overall New England record, that loss in mid December would be the team's last as they powered their way past perennial rivals such as Pomfret. Brooks and Roxbury Latin. Not only was this a strong dual meet team, it was unusual in that it was also a formidable one at the tournaments. The varsity team won the Doug Parker Invitational in December as well as the first Graves Kelsey league tournament ever to be hosted in the Jordan Athletic Center in February. Two weeks later Belmont Hill placed 4th of 41 teams at the New England's and first among the non-post graduate schools. Meanwhile, the JV's were busy taking home top honors at the Northfield Mount Herman New England Junior Varsity Championships. The team owed much of its success to its strength throughout the lineup. Greg Troderman (103)and Eugene Nelson (112) both put in tough efforts at the lower weights. Then from 119 to 145 the team was nearly untouchable with Juan Jurardo, Nick Boghos, John Ferrick, David Terwilliger, George Sullivan and Nyadenya Inyagwa all having great seasons and placing at Graves. Boghos, Ferrick, Sullivan, and Inyagwa all placed at New Englands as well. George Sullivan was the champion of the Graves- Kelsey tournament at 145 and was joined by heavyweight Garrett Hatton whose victory in the final match of the tournament secured the team championship. Dan McDonald at 215 also enjoyed an outstanding season placing at both the Graves and New Englands. Locksley Bryan rounded out the upper weights at 171 with a 5th place finish at Graves. Alex Fuller, Marshall Nevins, Zach Starr and Oliver Hurd also contributed significantly. The starters were helped along the way by a strong room of JV wrestlers. At Northfield Mount Herman, Will Baldwin, Sean Po, Francisco Fernandez del Castillo, Mihran Deirmendjian and Luke Sawitsky were all crowned champions and Nick Whitehead, Ryan Morrissey, Chris Simard, Peter Lauria all placed as well. The team looks forward to continued success next year under captains David Terwilliger and Nydenya Inyagwa,. At the closing banquet, David was honored with the William "Bingo" Emerson trophy for the "most improved" wrestler. Ryan Morrisssey was recognized with the Henry B. Sawyer award for his sportsmanship and sophomores George Sullivan and Nick Boghos shared the Gilbert S. Jordan award for "greatest contribution". We give a special thanks to our manager Paul Bogonis. We also would like to thank the coaches Wes Bennet, Peter Folan, Chip Tarbell, Dick Hoffman, Jamie Binnall and Don Bradley for an outstanding year. BELMONT HILL ALPINE SKI TEAM 2004-5

The season for the Alpine ski team began with dry land training the end of November and lasted until Christmas vacation, due warm weather and no snow at Nashoba Ski Area. We therefore took the team to Wachusett Ski Area to see which of the new candidates would be selected to be on the team. Two sophomores; Nick Barnard and Andrew Edgerly made the team, plus freshmen Danny Mahoney, Chris Tripoli and Will Ford, and one first former Chris Meckel. Every Wednesday throughout January and February all eight ISL schools who have ski teams participate in giant slalom races at Nashoba Valley and a tally is kept throughout the season to determine the overall winner. Both Varsity and Junior Varsity skiers compete on these Wednesdays. In order to count for a team, a racer must complete both runs and the total time is calculated. The top seven racers compete on Varsity and the rest on Junior Varsity. Our first race in January was held and we finished in first place, with third former Alex Englert winning and Sophomore Drew Quinn was 3rd. After that, Belmont Hill won the next three of the next five races. Belmont Hill came in second and third in two of the races for a 35 -3 overall record and winning the ISL League for the season. Alex Englert, Drew Quinn, Andrew Edgerly and Ian Macomber received All League awards. Alex Englert also received the Globe All Scholastic award, as the top male racer of the league throughout the season. Our other varsity racers who competed were Juniors Mac Carroll and Pat Warner, Sophomores Nick Barnard and Sam Barnard, and Freshman Nick Martini. The 16th of February, Belmont Hill traveled to Mt. Snow in Vermont to compete in the B Division of the NEPSAC ski races. Belmont Hill skied very well in both the giant slalom and slalom, and came in third out of fifteen schools, losing only to Northfield-Mt. Herman and Avon Old Farms. Alex Englert won the slalom and came in second in the giant slalom. The other five skiers who competed were Drew Quinn,Ian Macomber,Andrew Edgerly, Sam Barnard, and Mac Carroll. With no seniors who graduating, we look forward to next year with all returning varsity racers. Our team should once again do very well in both the league and the New England's. Our co-captains for next year will be Drew Quinn and Mac Carroll. Once again, thanks to the assistant coaches Amie Whitehead and Vanessa Mudd who were so helpful throughout the winter, plus thank you to all of the parents who were supportive fans and patiently waited at the bottom of the hill to cheer on their sons and Belmont Hill. Also our appreciation goes to the parents who brought food and drinks for the team members after they raced. Patty Whitney April 5, 2005 181

Nick Leader Dear Nick, The past 18 years have been such a joy for us to watch you mature into the man you are today. We should have known how special you were when you introduced us to Uni-Gatz and Gunda!! From that unforgettable "Maybe on the way back..." Boat ride down Pine River Pond to that character building experience in the snow, we have laughed and cried together. Watching you on the soccer and lacrosse fields as you lead with quiet determination says volumes about the person you are becoming. You never shy away from an academic challenge or a difficult task. These traits will serve you well as you enter the next phase of your life. Stay strong, for yours will not be an easy life. For you have many choices ahead, and most can be made only by you. Like your Bubbie:"The Life you lead is dictated by the choices you make."Your moral compass is set. Belmont Hill has prepared you well. Continue to work hard, discover new things, use your imagination, make more life-long friends and promise to come home occasionally. Love, Mom & Dad P.S. Dad is somewhat sorry about those fishbowl comments. He just can't, not answer a direct question.

Dear Nick, You are a great brother, annoying at times, but great. You taught me--or claim you taught me--the pump fake, which was very useful in my recent basketball game. You also taught me all I know about soccer. Goalie or not, I know that I have improved because of you. You have also taught me not just sports, but I think I have matured as a young woman thanks to you. I have also learned a couple good comebacks as well. So, having an older brother helped me in many aspects of my life and if I were to choose an older brother I would definatly choose you and I love you very much. If I had to sum you up in one word,I would use love, because you have lot of it. You chare it with everyone you know. Whnever you walk into a room it shines. Best wishes I hope you excel in college and in life.

Dear Brian, Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to great places! You're off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steeryourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go. OH! THE PLACES YOU'LL GO! You'll be on your way up! You'll be seeing great sights! You'll join the high flyers who soar to high heights. You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed. You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead. Wherever you fly, you'll be the best of the best. Wherever you go, you will top all the rest. Oh,the places you'll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won. And the magical things you can do with that ball. Will make you the winningest winner of all. Fame! You'll be famous as famous can be. With the whole wide world watching you win on TV. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.) Kid,You'll move mountains! By Dr. Seuss What a fabulous career at Belmont Hill! You have made us so proud. We love you and will always be there for you. Mom,Dad, Kevin and Brendan
