After helping hundreds of Westchester County herniated disc sufferers eliminated their pain, Local Doctor explains how…
“Back Pain Technology Cheats Mother Nature Helps Herniated Discs Heal Naturally… In As Little As 25 Minutes!” At Last! Westchester County Doctor Offers Technology That Doesn’t Just End SEVERE Pain From Herniated Discs, But Helps Your Body To Start Rebuilding Them… As Fast As Humanly Possible! Best Part: You can check it all out for FREE if you like! There is no doubt… technology has made all of our lives better… and easier. Just about every miraculous medical cure and comfort of modern living can be attributed to amazing breakthroughs in technology. Heck, laser eye surgery can give people who are almost as blind as a bat perfect 20/20 vision. How amazing is that? That’s why it’s no surprise that technology might be able to solve your back and neck pain from herniated/bulging discs or sciatica…for good. Here is why: Back and neck pain can be devastating. And nothing is worse than going to doctor after doctor… trying treatment after treatment… spending money you can’t afford… and still suffering in pain. That’s why… I bet you would love to instantly end your pain… without any risk what-soever… and have it never come back for the rest of your life? Well, that might NOT be so easy. But, what if there was a wonderful advancement in technology that, with a handful of simple, non-invasive treatments, could possibly have you out of pain and on your way to healing naturally? Better yet, what if this technology could possibly heal your herniated/bulging discs (instead of cutting it out like surgery) so you have the best chance to live pain-free and do all the things you want and love to do? And what if this technology was: 3 FDA cleared! 3 Proven safe and effective! 3 Allows your herniated discs to heal naturally without the risky and dangerous side effects of surgery! 3 Relieves pain fast… in some cases in as little as 25 minutes! Well, guess what? There is such technology and there is a very good chance it can help you… like it has already helps thousands of herniated/bulging disc and sciatica sufferers all around the country… No Matter How Bad Your Pain Is, How Long You’ve Been Suffering Or How Many Other Treatments And Doctors Have Failed You! Don’t laugh. It’s really true. Here’s proof…
When you have a herniated disc, compressive forces cause your spinal bones to come together… basically squashing your disc. The space in between your bones decreases and the soft, jello-like disc material leaks out. This disc material that leaks out is called a herniated disc and can cause severe pain, numbness and tingling in your neck, back, arms or legs when the herniation pushes into and “pinches” a nerve. So it makes sense, if you could slightly pull the spinal bones apart… that would open up the space, take the pressure off the disc, the disc off the nerve and solve the problem. Right? But the only problem is… how do you do that? For years and years, doctors have been trying to do it with traction. But traction has been proven ineffective and often very painful. Why? Traction doesn’t work because when you have a herniated or bulging disc, the area is injured and when you try to move, your muscles go into spasm. Spasm is your body’s way of trying to protect you from causing further injury. That’s why traction hurts so much. As soon as the traction starts… your muscles overprotect the area and spasm. But the good news is: Now there is technology that out-smarts your body’s natural spasm reaction. In other words: It fools mother nature! This technology is called non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) and here’s how it works… NSSD is very different from plain traction because it has advanced computer technology that actually senses your spinal muscles. When it starts to gently pull, it immediately knows when your muscles start to contract and it stops pulling. As soon as your muscles relax, it starts pulling again. The amazing thing is: the computer senses your muscles contraction so early… you don’t even feel what is going on. Which means you never feel any pain! In fact, the only thing most patients feel is… RELIEF!!! But the best part is: NSSD is able to gently separate your spinal bones which, in many cases, actually sucks the herniated disc material back into the disc where it belongs! This takes away your pain and allows your herniated and bulging discs to heal naturally!
And check this out: Treatments are pleasant and simple. All you have to do is lie on your back, listen to your favorite music, read a magazine… or… take a nap! The wonderful technology does everything while you simply RELAX the pain away! To sum up NSSD: • For most patients it is 100% painless… in fact many patients actually fall asleep during treatment! • Works fast! Most patients get relief after a handful of treatments – some after the very first! • Is non-invasive so it does not have the dangerous risks of surgery! • Gets to the root cause of the problem and helps it heal naturally! Isn’t modern technology wonderful? And wouldn’t you like to… Give This Great Technology A Try… For Free? If you would, there’s great news. There is a Doctor located at 1241 Mamaroneck Ave. right here in White Plains, NY who has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in this wonderful technology and has been treating herniated/bulging disc and sciatica patients with incredible success. His name is Dr. Jonathan Donath DC, MS and he is so excited about the results he’s been getting, he would like to share it with as many pain sufferers as possible. But There Is A Catch… There’s always a catch... isn’t there? Even though this technology has helped a majority of the patients Dr. Donath has treated… it is not a wonder cure and it does not help everyone.
On the right: healthy disc. Center: Herniated disc with soft disc material leaking out. On the left: Herniated disc material compressing or “pinching” nerve.
For that reason, Dr. Donath does a complete examination on every potential patient and only accepts you if he feels you are most likely to get the pain relief and outcome you are looking for. Dr. Donath’s Special Deal For You! Because the economy is so bad and Dr. Donath wants to help you if possible, he is offering the first 17 people who respond to this article a free consultation and NSSD qualification examination. And if you qualify for NSSD treatments, Dr. Donath will also give you one treatment for FREE! And if you do not qualify, Dr. Donath will help you find the best option for you. That’s why, if you suffer with pain from a herniated/bulging disc or sciatica you should call 914-259-8104 right now. When Barbara answers the phone, simply tell her you would like your free non-surgical spinal decompression consultation and examination. If you are one of the first 17, she will schedule you within the next few days. If you are in a lot of pain or already scheduled for surgery, tell Barbara and she will be sure to get you in immediately. Maybe even today.
On right: Herniated disc with spinal bones “squished” together. Center: NSSD slightly pulls the spinal bones apart, opens up the disc space and allows herniated material to move back into the disc. Left: Herniated material completely back in center of disc allows the disc to heal naturally. Your consultation and examination should take about 60 minutes. During this time you can get all of your questiones answered in a warm and friendly environment. You will know exactly what’s causing your pain and the best possible way to solve it. Dr. Donath will explain to you all your possible options along with his recomendations so you can make the best choice for YOU.
Why Limited To 17? Dr. Donath has limited the number he will accept right now to 17 because he does not believe patients should wait and they should also get the quality personal attention they deserve. When you go for your free visit, I’m sure you will see how unique and pleasant the experience is. It’s nice to be treated like a person and not a number or based on insurance coverage. It’s also nice to know exactly what’s causing your pain and how to relieve it as fast as possible. Dr. Donath’s favorite cases are the one’s that were able to cancel back surgery after only a handful of treatments. Dr. Donath also loves when a herniated disc patient that is in excruciating pain and thinks they’ve tried everything, lays down on the NSSD table, takes a 25 minute nap… and… wakes up with all their pain GONE! Just imagine how it would feel to have all your pain finally gone. Imagine going to bed and being able to sleep the entire night through… … and waking up refreshed and energized… ready to take on the brand new day – without the pain and stiffness that has been terrorizing you. And imagine finally knowing you have the solution to your herniated disc pain. Well, you may not have to just “imagine” anymore… because… NSSD might start relieving your pain… in just 25 minutes! So, if you’d like to see if you qualify and give this amazing technology a try for free… give Barbara a call at 914-259-8104 right now. Why wait one more day in pain when the solution may be one quick phone call away? Call now before someone else gets your free spot. One More Thing It’s Important… Ever since getting this wonderful technology, Dr. Donath’s office has been flooded with calls. For that reason, if when you call, the lines are busy or you go to voice mail… just keep calling back. The possibility of living pain-free is well worth the time and effort it may take you to get through and schedule your appointment. 914-259-8104

Wellcentive’s platform addresses this need by interfacing with multiple vendors’ systems, aggregating and translating disparate data into meaningful health information and program-specific reports. Emerging value-based reimbursement programs further prioritize high-risk patients and emphasize care management and patient outreach to improve population care. ColumbiaDoctors’ population health management team will use the following Wellcentive tools to support successful participation in shared-savings and bundled-payment programs: point-of-care tools, care gap analysis, automated patient outreach, outcomes reporting, predictive modeling and risk assessment, care management and coordination, cost and utilization analysis, and automated services that monitor data quality and program management parameters.

“The tools will enhance care coordination and outcomes reporting that will continue to drive value-based medicine.” Wellcentive Senior Vice President Terry Boch said the partnership with ColumbiaDoctors is a strong example of the healthcare industry’s transition from fee-for-service to value-based payment models. “The years of development behind Wellcentive solutions and services continue to generate significant rewards for forward-looking providers,” said Boch. “ColumbiaDoctors is now positioned at the forefront of caregivers leveraging technology for the betterment of the entire patient populations they serve.” Participation in pay-for-performance reimbursement programs requires gathering information from disconnected information systems that do not share data.

Soon, the sun will finally show its face and give us a little warmth to enjoy the outdoors. Ah, spring is almost around the corner. You know why? This is the April edition of Healthcare News, always insightful, chuck full of news and entertaining features. So hang in there. We know that this has been a tough winter and, yes, we know Old Man Winter might have some more tricks up his sleeves for Westchester County in the form of snow. Um, lots of it. But trudge on brave souls. Spring has almost sprung. And you know what that means. The sun’s warm rays invite us to be outside. The flowers will be blooming. The birds are tweeting. The grass will be green and ready to be mowed. Ah, life is good, sans the mowing the lawn part. It’s so easy to hunker down into the warmth of a cozy house when the weather outside is terrible. However, soon the sun will be shining, and it will be time to take advantage of the great outdoors. Happy Spring! Even if we are a little early. We always welcome telling these stories and please let us know if you have one for us. Thank you for reading. Look forward to hearing from you. Skinny for spring – Tips to get in shape for swimsuit season Get skinny by spring and feel confident about picking out that new swimsuit. Healthcare News checked in with some of the top personal trainers in Westchester County to help you get those tight abs and lean body for the season through exercise, diet tips and other hints. Nutrition is an easy and critical way to get flat abs. People count calories without realizing that calories alone will not get them the body they desire. • Reduce sugars in foods and try not to have more than 12 grams of sugar per serving. Beware of high sugar commonly found in juices and sodas. • Beware of sodas because these drinks bloat you with all their chemicals, processed ingredients, high fructose corn syrup and aspartame. Sodas can account for more than 800 calories each day. Our bodies can’t process all the artificial ingredients, so it stores it, contributing to abdominal fat that is impossible to get rid of except through rigorous exercise. Diet sodas are no better because artificial sweeteners also contribute to bloat and counteract that perfect, flat stomach. • Reducing sodium is also critical to a lean, tight body. In order to lean out, reduce bloat and overall shrink your body, people should have no more than 1,500 mg of sodium per day. Read labels. It’s easy to go over your daily allotment in a single meal. • Plank – This basic move works the whole core as well as strengthens the core and shoulders. To do a plank, lie face down then prop your body up on your toes and elbows and forearms in an isometric position. Keep your back neutral and flat, squeezing your body and breathing. Hold this pose for 30 seconds to a minute. • Bicycles – Lie on your back with your hands behind your head near your ears with your elbows out to open up your chest. Lift your knees so your feet are off the ground. Reach with your elbow to touch your opposite knee while your other leg hovers almost parallel to the ground without dropping it. Squeeze your abs and obliques, then switch so the other elbow reaches for the opposite knee. Do 20 reps. • Squats – Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Squat with a flat back, buttocks out, like you’re sitting in a chair. All the weight should be in your heels, and your knees should not go beyond your toes. You can add weights to make it harder. Do 20 reps.

Great outdoor Spring workouts 4. Walking: Don’t downplay the cardio benefits of walking, this is a no-brainer. On a beautiful day, opt to walk to your favorite spot in town instead of drive, head to your local outlet mall, or even just take a spin around the block.
5. group fitness: Check your local newspaper for group fitness opportunities outside. Whether it’s a boot camp style workout or a running group, the nicer weather is the perfect excuse to try something new.
VaRICOSe VeINS? TIReD, aCHY LegS? We have a solution! Look and feel your best! Dr. Arlen G. Fleisher, has successfully treated thousands of patients with venous diseases such as varicose and spider veins, and their related symptoms. Premier Vein Centers offer state-of-the-art technology and techniques in the comfort of a doctor's office. 1. go for a run: Probably the most obvious outdoor workout, running outside is SO much more entertaining than hitting up the treadmill. Whether your go-to running path is a dirt trail in a local valley or city streets -- there’s plenty to look at during your stride. 2. Circuit training: You can do circuit training anywhere, with or without gym equipment. Head to a local park with a circuit in mind. If you need different level surfaces for step-ups or tricep dips, a park bench will do just fine. 3. Yoga: Outdoor yoga can be VERY peaceful. In my mind, it’s taking one of the most relaxing workouts there is and making it even better. The sounds of nature can be a whole lot more relaxing than your favorite go-to music mix.

The Importance of Elder Law: You must protect your assets, family and future now! For nearly 30 years, practicing law has been Ely Rosenzveig’s passion. His inspiration? That comes from, among other things, his life experiences, the people he has met, and the clients he works with every day. The widow who didn’t have a will and was concerned about her financial future. The family that was reeling from health issues impacting their elderly loved ones without any planning in place to address their needs, leaving them with the prospect of exorbitantly expensive care needs. Ely Rosenzveig was a rabbi in Westchester County. The plight of some in his congregation moved him to practice elder law and trust and estate planning. He would become a senior partner at one of the foremost elder law firms in the country, but left to join hands with his son, Ariel. “I really jumped at the opportunity to work in this area of law,” Ely Rosenzveig said. “I think it’s special kind of work. To help people and work with your son is incredibly rewarding. Ariel is a great asset – a wonderful and gifted young attorney.” The law firm of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. in White Plains practices in all areas of elder law, including trust and
estate planning, administration, and litigation, tax counsel, asset protection and special needs planning, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security disability benefits, guardianships, long term care planning, spousal recovery claims, and Medicaid lien resolutions. Father and son pride themselves on an unyielding commitment to the zealous advocacy of their clients’ interests. Estate planning is one of the most important steps any person can take to make sure that their final property and health care wishes are honored, and that loved ones are provided for in their absence. A comprehensive estate plan can resolve a number of legal questions that arise whenever anyone dies. Appropriate estate and Medicaid planning can help preserve assets, reduce taxes, and help individuals qualify for Medicaid. “People don’t want to talk about illness and death,” Ariel Rosenzveig said. “It’s a tough subject. People are reluctant, but the type of measures that we implement for our clients can save them and their loved ones a lot of money. Proper planning will help provide financial and emotional security for all involved.”
The firm is very experienced in making sure that those eligible for Medicaid and Medicare get the benefits they deserve. Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. has been very successful in negotiating the complex bureaucratic minefield in which Medicaid is now mired, a dynamic only exacerbated with the passage of the Deficit reduction Act of 2006, and the new rules regarding the look-back requirements, and penalty period calculations for non-Medicaid exempt asset transfers. The firm has achieved remarkable results for clients on a host of Medicaid related issues, from getting Medicaid approvals for coverage of home care and institutional care benefits, to very accommodative resolutions of Medicaid spousal recovery claims, where the office of Medicaid aggressively pursues the non-institutionalized (i.e., or “community”) spouse for Medicaid benefits provided. No matter what the case, Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. prides itself on working with each client individually, catering to each one’s diverse needs. Estate planning should begin at a young age with a will, health care proxy, living
will and durable power of attorney. As you grow older and accumulate assets, it is especially important that you speak with an experience elder law attorney issues pertaining to issues concerning Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and further estate planning. Elder law is about more than just saving money. When viewed properly, elder law is about two major things: First, ensuring that your personal wishes — financial, medical, and legal — are carried out; and second, understanding that elder law is a family matter affecting an intricate web of individual relationships. Knowing that your potential long-term care needs have already been addressed frees you and your family from needless worry. And Ely and Ariel Rosenzveig are there to help their cherished clients every step of the way. “We want every client to feel like they are our only client,” Ely Rosenzveig said. “We are totally committed to ensuring that we be fully responsive to our clients’ every need. For us, this is tremendously rewarding. It is the very reason why we have become elder law attorneys.”

Lawrence Hospital Center Dr. Anthony F. Provenzano, Director of the Cancer Center, and the experienced and professional staff at Lawrence Hospital Center in Bronxville, pride themselves on providing some of the best cancer care in the region. They will passionately tell you that they fight and treat the disease. And, they say it can be as rewarding as the relationships the team builds with its patients and their families during their treatment of a variety of different forms of cancer. At Lawrence Hospital Center, patients are treated by a group of board-certified surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and oncology nurses. This level of care, combined with a personal touch in a comfortable and private setting right here in your own community, continues to set Lawrence Hospital Center apart from other facilities in the Tri-State area. “We put the patients first and get things done for them,” said Provenzano, who is also Chairman of the Hospital’s Cancer Committee and Director of Oncology at Lawrence Medical Associates, an affiliate of Lawrence Hospital Center “It’s a calling. We have team members that really care about the patients and it shows. You need to have that compassionate one-on-one and that’s what differentiates us from other hospitals.”
Lawrence Hospital Center continues to grow and evolve, providing patients with extraordinary service and peace of mind during treatment. Patients are provided with state-of-theart care in a friendly and convenient location. Lawrence’s collaborative care approach brings together the expertise and perspectives of physicians from a variety of specialties and disciplines. The hospital’s team works together to determine the best treatment plan for you or your loved one. “I happen to be extremely passionate about what I do,” Provenzano added. “Some people go to a seminary. I decided to go to medical school. It’s just my nature and the nature of the people I work with. You can’t calculate how rewarding it is when you help people like this.” The leaders at Lawrence Hospital Center understand that treating cancer means more than treating a disease: it also involves treating the psychological, mental, and emotional concerns that come with your diagnosis. “We are very focused on providing individualized care with compassion,” said Dr. Preya Ananthakrishnan, a respected breast surgeon at Lawrence Hospital Center and a member of the hospital’s Center for Advanced Surgery team, a joint venture with the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
“Every patient is different, every cancer is different. We come up with treatments that are tailormade for our patients and we encourage loved ones to be a part of the process. We want them to be there every step of the way.”
Lawrence Hospital Center recently announced that its distinguished Cancer Care program won reaccreditation for three more years by the Commission on Cancer (CoC), American College of Surgeons.

CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standardsetting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care. There are other plans at Lawrence to enhance its cancer care offerings. The hospital is currently building a new a 40,000 square-foot Surgery and Oncology Pavilion which is scheduled to open in 2015. The $39 million building addition and renovation will provide facilities to supplement the existing cancer treatment services with radiation therapy being offered for the first time on its campus with expanded infusion therapy capabilities. Plus, the cancer center will link new services with existing ones including imaging, pathology, a patient resource center and other ancillary services for cancer patients and their families. Additionally, the Pavilion will bring six new state-of-the-art operating rooms which will offer to surgeons the latest technologies, and operational efficiencies. Hospital leaders also believe the new operating facilities will provide more comfort and peace of mind to patients and their loved ones as well as help Lawrence recruit additional talented surgeons to its staff. continued on next page

Offers Comprehensive Cancer Care Close to Home Taking on an unforgiving adversary like cancer requires a team effort. Lawrence Hospital Center currently features a comprehensive on-site Medical Oncology unit that includes an Infusion Room for chemotherapy and ancillary cancer treatments, medical oncology services and cancer support programs including its own genetic screening and counseling program allowing doctors to tailor treatment using a patient's own unique biological markers. Lawrence’s Oncology Nurse Navigator service helps patients obtain valuable health and resource information and gives them the support, and guidance they need to manage a cancer diag-
nosis and its treatment. Plus, this experienced and professionally trained Navigator, helps patients get the support they need for questions, important decisions, and concerns that accompany a cancer diagnosis. According to a recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, patients with a nurse navigator rated their care higher and reported fewer problems than patients without one. “We treat our patients the way we ourselves want to be treated, the way we would want our loved ones to be treated,” said Dr. Eduardo M. Saponara, Chief of Medical Oncology and Hematology at Lawrence Hospital Center.
From L to R: Missy Paolicelli, RN, OCN, MSN, Oncology Nurse Manager confers with Anthony F. Provenzano, MD, Director of Oncology at Lawrence Medical Associates and Director of the Cancer Center at Lawrence Hospital.

“It’s very rewarding because we often become very close to our patients and their families. We know them, they know us. It’s beyond a professional relationship. We all care about each other.” Lawrence Hospital Center is proud to feature the only Cancer Survivorship Program in the region along with Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York, meeting the second Tuesday of every month on campus. Still, Lawrence’s reach expands far beyond Westchester County. “I started the program five years ago after my wife had breast cancer,” Provenzano said. “It hit me like a ton of bricks.
The survivorship program has done such a good job that we have been recognized as a rolemodel by the Oncology Round Table. Our survivorship program also attracts families who might be interested in screening programs if they think they are more at risk.” Patients at Lawrence also have access to clinical trials and advanced procedures at Columbia University Medical Center. Lawrence Hospital Center is an affiliate of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System which provides for additional access to research and medical and surgical programs. Lawrence continues to provide
advancements in cancer technology, treatment and early detection on par with the best facilities in New York City. “We provide the same level of care in the city, but you are closer to home and more comfortable,” Ananthakrishnan said. “Sometimes your treatment will require surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. You don’t have to travel to the city for any of that. We will provide you with wonderful care right here at Lawrence.” To learn more about cancer services at Lawrence Hospital Center, please visit www.lawrencehealth.org or call 914-787-5000.

Spring break is almost here!
Are you looking forward to getting away and having a worry-free family vacation? Advance planning can help you to stress-proof your family travels so that you can have the most fun and relaxing experience possible without undue worry. A vacation with the family, while intended to give everyone a break and some relaxation, can be a stressful event in itself. Several factors can increase everyone’s stress levels - the actual travel, unfamiliar surroundings, and perhaps a different language and culture. While a “worry-free” vacation is likely an unattainable goal, an ideal vacation is one in which the “good” stresses (i.e. dealing with unfamiliar cultures, increased contact with family members) are not outweighed by the “bad” stresses (arguments, tiredness, resentment).
Here are six brief spring break vacation survival rules:
1 Accept others’ wishes and be prepared to compromise. Everyone should have some opportunity to do things he/she wants. In most families, this means compromises on everyone’s part. Recognize that you may have to take part in some activities that wouldn’t be your first choices, for the sake of group harmony.
2 Don’t overextend your schedule. Very few people can do a “whirlwind tour” of five cities in seven days and remain relaxed, and trying to do so would be unthinkable for a family with young children. Likewise, don’t try to fill your days with too many commitments and activities. Leave time to see where your whims and moods take you.
6 tips to stress-proof your family vacation
3 Communicate without being confrontational with other family members. Don’t sulk and act resentful if it seems that nothing is “going your way.” Kindly mention to the others that you’re feeling disappointed that you haven’t been able to see or do whatever it is you feel is important to you. Suppressed anger and resentment can easily ruin your dream vacation.
4
5
Give yourself plenty of time for the trip. Rushing to catch a plane or train only increases everyone’s stress level and leads to conflicts. This is especially true when traveling with very young children who are likely to require more breaks and cause unpredictable interruptions.
Be realistic about your expectations. If your children misbehave at home, they’re not going to behave perfectly just because you’re on vacation. Interpersonal differences and conflicts won’t magically disappear.
6 Relax and have fun without expecting the very state of being on vacation to “cure” any difficulties or problems you may be facing back home.

Five tips to Spring Cleaning your body 4. Replace animal Products with Plant Based alternatives Meat and dairy products create an acidic environment in the body, which leaves the door open for disease. Give your body a break from the acid, and choose alkalinizing plant based foods like leafy greens, cucumber, and avocados. If you’re looking for plant based protein sources, try lentils, hemp seeds or chia seeds! Consume as many of these foods as close to raw as possible, for an even healthier and more vibrant body! You might even lose a few pounds 5. add Vegetable Juice A daily dose of fresh (never bottled!) organic vegetable juice will add needed nutrients to your diet, and work as a cleanser for your body too. Focus on leafy greens, the darker the better, and add lemon, ginger and even garlic for extra cleansing power. Beets (include the beet greens!) are known by some as the “special forces” of cleansing, so try adding those every few days as well. As a habit, leave out the sweeter vegetables and fruits, as they add sugar which acidifies the body, allowing an environment for disease to flourish. If you really need something to make it more palatable, use one green apple or try liquid stevia to sweeten it up. Store bought bottled juices are pasturized, killing the majority of the good stuff you want, so make sure you’re either making it yourself, or supporting a local juice bar.
Now that spring has almost arrived, why not clean your body as well as your home? This is the perfect time of year to give your health a boost, and prepare for Summer. Here are five tips to help spring you into a higher level of health for Spring! 1. add a Hot Water with Lemon Habit Start your day with hot water and lemon to help alkalize your body and cleanse toxins. This ancient beauty secret is a simple way to cleanse your body and add hydration. 2. Sweat it Out Go to a hot spa, hot yoga class, or take an epsom salts bath. Our skin is our largest organ, and sweating can be an effective method of detox. Some spas have affordable day rates that allow you to enjoy steam rooms, whirlpools and saunas, and special mineral rooms for as long as you like! Take a friend and spend quality time while you flush the toxins out! 3. Drop Toxic Body Products Many of today’s cosmetics are loaded with carcinogens and other health destroying ingredients, adding to your bodies load of other more unavoidable toxins like air pollution. This is one department you have control over. Remember that beauty products, or “cosmetics” include anything you use on your body, even toothpaste and deodorant. For starters, go through your cabinets and toss out anything including the word “fragrance”, because that alone can be code for over 26 different toxic chemicals!

Does your Company have Group LTD…? By Andrew J. Cavaliere, CLTC Group Long-Term Disability (LTD) insurance replaces a portion of your income when you are unable to work due to an illness or injury. Group LTD insurance is arguably the best insurance dollar you will ever spend. Why is it the best? This article will explain why after we review some cold, hard facts of life. You may not realize the potential danger of becoming disabled today, but they are daunting. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that you have a one in five chance of becoming disabled during your working years age 18-64. One in five is kind of like playing Russian roulette … only worse! Moreover, the average long-term disability (LTD) absence from work lasts 2.5 years1. This is quite a long time to survive without a steady income. Let’s go a step further. You would think that sub-prime mortgages are the leading cause of mortgage bankruptcies in this country, but they are not. According to an American Journal of Medicine 2009 study, disability continued to be the leading cause of bankruptcies and mortgage foreclosures in the United States, causing nearly 50% of all foreclosures compared to 2% from premature death. According to the same study, two-thirds of American families live paycheck-to-paycheck, and approximately 38% could not afford to pay their bills for more than three months without their income. Most people believe that their biggest asset is their house and/or retirement savings. In fact, their biggest asset is more than likely their ability to work and earn a living. Consider this example of a 28 year old earning $80,000 annually with a 3% increase in income each year. By the time that person reaches age 65, he or she would have earned $5,293,938. It is doubtful that any other assets that person has accumulated will approach that number. Technically, LTD picks up where Short-Term Disability (STD) leaves off. Once your STD benefits expire, generally after three to six months, the long-term disability policy pays you 60% of your earnings, depending on your policy. You will then receive benefits for two to five years or until you turn 65 depending upon your contract. If you pay your own premiums with after-tax dollars, your disability benefits will be tax-free. If your employer pays for the group policy, most likely with pre-tax dollars, your disability benefits will be taxable. Rather than purchasing a separate disability insurance policy, many people believe they can rely solely on Social Security and/or Workers Compensation for protection. Unfortunately, Workers Compensation will only cover a "job related" injury or illness and both Workers Compensation and Social Security benefits are inadequate for any successful professional. The average benefit paid by Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is $1,065 monthly; 8% of SSDI recipients received less than $500 monthly, 52% received less than $1,000 monthly and 97% received less than $2,000 monthly2. So what are some of the real advantages of Group LTD? ➢ Since the policy is sponsored by the employer, group rates apply. The cost is a fraction of individual coverage. ➢ Contracts are guaranteed issue up to a monthly benefit cap of $7,500 to $10,000 a month. ➢ No physicals, blood work or extensive medical questions are required. ➢ Most occupations have benefit periods to age 65. ➢ Many carriers will issue group contracts on as little as two full-time owners and/or employees. ➢ 36 month own occupation definition allows you to receive benefits while working in a different vocation. ➢ Partial disability benefits are payable to disabled employees who return to work part time. ➢ Premiums are waived the month following the date the benefit is paid until the employee returns to work3. Consider this example: A 50 year old therapist earning $200,000 a year employs her 45 year old assistant who she pays $30,000 annually. The therapist can buy a $7,500 a month tax-free disability benefit to age 65 for herself and a $1,500 a month disability benefit to age 65 for her assistant for only $225 a month…!4 That is over $1,600,000 of disability income protection from day one. So whether you own a small business or you are an employee of one, it makes sense to talk to the decision makers and review some LTD quotes immediately. Group LTD can only be purchased by the employer and it remains one of the most important benefits of every working man and woman today. 6 Mood-Boosting Foods Can you eat your way to a better mood? More and more scientific research is saying so. Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet is important for your general health, so why should it be any different for your mental health? From depression-fighting seeds to anxiety-zapping greens, read about the best nutrients for your mood. 1. Sesame Seeds The unassuming sesame seed is loaded with moodboosting nutrients. Sesame seeds are on of the best vegetarian sources of zinc, a mineral that has been linked to depression and anxiety. One study found that zinc treatment lowered the depression and anger levels of young women. Other studies have suggested using the mineral as a treatment for depression. 2. Spinach As if you needed another reason to love spinach! This leafy green is loaded with all sorts of mood-boosting nutrients, from depression-fighting folates (more on that later) to anxiety-easing magnesium. Spinach also contains plenty of zinc — studies have shown that, the less zinc you have in your body, the more likely you are to be depressed.
3. Yogurt Yogurt is an excellent vegetarian source of vitamin B12, a vital nutrient for the formation of red blood cells. For reasons scientists aren’t exactly clear on yet, B vitamins seem to play a vital role in our mental health. Vitamin B12 deficiencies in particular have been linked to high rates of depression, and studies have suggested that strong intake of the vitamin may improve depression treatment outcomes. If your body doesn’t get enough of the stuff, it can actually lead to serious mental health issues. Because plants cannot make Vitamin B12, your best sources for the stuff are dairy products, eggs, seafood, and meat. Vegans and older adults are especially at risk of a Vitamin B12 deficiency, and may want to talk with their doctors about supplements or fortified foods.
4. Chocolate A few bites of real, dark chocolate each day will help your mood and your tastebuds! Studies have suggested that dark chocolate reduces the level of cortisol, a stress hormone, in your body; it may also relieve anxiety. 5. Lentils Lentils, along with other foods rich in folic acid, are a key nutrient for treating depression. Like it’s B vitamin cousin, vitamin B12, plenty of research has linked low levels of folic acid to depression.

Patient Dining On Demand comes to Phelps Have you ever been in a hospital and wished you could eat what you wanted, when you wanted it? Say hello to “Room Service,” the new on-demand meal delivery service for patients at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow. In addition to training staff to implement the new program, the hospital spent more than half a million dollars on a redesign of its kitchen, which underwent major renovations last summer. The kitchen was converted from a traditional hospital 1950’s tray line to a modern state-of-the-art restaurant-style kitchen. Instead of receiving three meals at set times during the day, patients at Phelps can now contact the Room Service Call Center anytime between the hours of 6:30 am and 6:30 pm, order from a new restaurant-style menu and have their meal delivered within the hour. Studies have shown that when patients can order their meals when they want them, it contributes greatly to their hospital experience. The meal delivery service is based on the hotel concept of room service, but with one key difference: Call Center Associates, who answer the phones, not only assist patients with selections, but also ensure that the order is appropriate to the patient’s diet. Both Call Center Associates and Phelps Hospitality staff, who deliver the meals, have received extensive training on ways to fulfill patient requests while making sure their dietary needs are being met.
“Our meal program is unique in Westchester in that when patients call to place their order, the food is prepared and delivered when it’s ready, rather than at a set time,” says Rich Schmidt, Director of Food, Nutrition and Hospitality Services at Phelps. “We are getting a lot of positive feedback from patients, who like being able to choose from a menu and eat when they are hungry. Altagracia Saiz, of White Plains, was a patient at Phelps recently and found the food to be delicious. “The menu is excellent. I order breakfast at 7:30 and it arrives by 8 o’clock,” said Ms. Saiz. “The Hospitality staff who bring the food are wonderful.” Kathleen Duffy, of Pleasantville, was a patient on the first day that Room Service began. She praised the Call Center staff who helped her choose foods that met her dietary restrictions. Craig Crocitto, of Thornwood, enjoyed the many choices. “The selections are great,” he said. “There is something for everyone.” Under the new food service system at Phelps, even diabetics can order when they want. Call Center staff talk to them about substitutions if their requests are inappropriate, and their trays are flagged with a medical alert, so nurses have to approve the delivery of the meal. “We even try to give choice to patients who are unable to communicate what they would like to eat by involving their loved ones in making choices for them,” says Schmidt.
10. They are spiritual. This doesn't necessarily mean religious. It could mean setting aside time for reflection through yoga or meditation. 11. They practice deep breathing. 12. They know there isn’t such a thing as “having it all,” and they’re happy about that. Wouldn’t the world be a boring place for them otherwise? 13. Fear doesn't hold them back. They're ready to take risks. 14. They know how to say “NO,” and don’t hold back. These people have learned to set boundaries. Plenty of them.
20 habits of people who are happy, healthy & successful
15. They learned a great deal from other people whom they admire. Either they had a great mentor, or took note of how those they aspired to be like handled various situations. 16. They follow their inner guidance. Not only do they have a vision, but they follow it. 17. They give without expecting anything in return. 18. They aren't pretentious or conceited. 19. Passion drives them. They authentically believe in what they're doing. 20. They don't complain.
Who among us doesn't want to be a happy, healthy and successful human being? Still, it can be easy to lose your way, which is why we've compiled a list of habits you can use to help reach your goals. So what is it about happy people that makes them the way they are? Below are just some of the ways they separate themselves from the rest of the crowd. 1. They don’t hold grudges. 2. They think outside of the box. 3. They go by a routine and make exercise a part of it. It takes practice to develop healthy habits and stick with them. Once you do, your internal foundation will be strong. 4. They have a supportive tribe, thereby not wasting time with negative or toxic people. 5. They don’t care about what other people think. Does a tiger lose sleep over the opinion of sheep? 6. They don’t people please. 7. They see difficult and challenging situations as opportunities for personal growth. 8. They consider handling rejection a skill and are resilient. 9. They make time for themselves. Whether it’s getting 8 hours of sleep every night, reading the newspaper in peace or an hour to go to the gym, they make it a priority — just like everything else.

What do doctors do to treat their own pain? As a board-certified internist who has been in practice for over 13 years, I spend much of my time attempting to alleviate the pain and suffering of my patients. As a clinician, one of the biggest challenges I face is helping my patients deal with musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes—those all-too-common, yet frequently debilitating ailments caused by bad backs, pinched nerves, arthritis, and the like. Unfortunately, much of what I have to offer my patients boils down to the following: take a pain pill, stretch if you can, wait, and hope for the best. After a failed trial of “conservative” therapy a call might go out to the orthopedic surgeon for assistance; a truly satisfactory result is not common. The simple fact is that physicians are not well trained to deal with musculoskeletal pain, and patients can suffer as a result. Thankfully, my views on this topic have been turned completely upside down since I havepersonally discovered Dr. Jonathan Donath’s outstanding practice. After beginning a vigorous exercise regimen I started to experience awful neck and upper back pain, accompanied by numbness and tingling down my left arm and fingers. For weeks I tried to nurse the pain with non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, but the pain persisted and got to the point that I was almost unable to work, sleep, or most importantly, play guitar. I wasliterally in tears from the excruciating pain. A neurosurgeon diagnosed a herniated disc and pinched nerve in my neck and offered to decompress it with an operation. In desperation I called Dr. Donath instead. My visit to Dr. Donath’s office was an outstanding experience. He spent about an hour with me and combined multiple modalities to fix the herniated disc in my neck: deep massage, active release techniques, traditional manipulation, cold therapy, and finally spinal decompression. After that first hour with Dr. Donath my pain had decreased from a 10/10 down to a manageable 4/10, and I was able to comfortably move my head and neck. That very night I was able to play guitar again. Two days later I went back for another series of treatments and the pain decreased even further. After about five days the pain was absolutely gone. Unbelievable! Since then he has used the same wonderful techniques to help me overcome painful bouts of sciatica as well. My own patients and family members have become “believers” in Dr. Donath’s abilities as well--- the results he achieves are real and lasting. He is my go to guy for the majority of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes that I now realize are truly treatable. Dr. Robert Sidlow MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine
I am a pediatrician and in my work, I have to bend down a lot and I’m constantly lifting kids. I usually have one to three bad flare ups of low back pain every year. When my back would "go out", I could barely walk to the bathroom and would have to lie down in bed for a few days. I have tried everything: doing nothing and "toughing it out", muscle relaxants, physical therapy, chiropractic, therapeutic massage, and even painful steroid injections. Nothing worked. When I moved to Westchester, I met Dr. Jonathan Donath. In just a couple of sessions with Dr. Donath, the pain completely disappeared. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. During my last flare up, I was expecting to be on my back for 2-3 days and in pain for 2 weeks. Instead, after one session with Dr. Donath, I was able to walk; two more sessions and I was fine. I could walk, bend down and I had almost no pain. Since that last back episode, Dr. Donath has helped me with my tendonitis in my right hand and with my chronic knee problems. I recommend Dr. Donath to everyone with back, muscle or joint pain. Even if you have not had relief with other treatments and other Chiropractors, give Dr. Donath a chance. I did and he changed my life. Eugene Dinkevich MD, Mount Vernon, NY It’s my great pleasure to write about Westchester Spinal Decompression Center. I really don’t have words to express my feelings about the care I got in last 3 months. I was almost handicapped, living with terrible pain all the time, crippling my day to day life. I am a medical doctor and work in a hospital with all sorts of amazing physicians, but after seeing a physical therapist, getting epidural steroids injections, many orthopedists and neurosurgeons, finally my destination lead me to see Dr Jonathan Donath. With great skepticism, I lied down for spinal decompression therapy. It was unbelievable that after only two initial sessions, my radiating pain down my leg had almost disappeared. Gradually, I started getting better, started doing exercises that they gave me midway through the treatment. Now, I am doing all my daily activities without any pain. I highly recommend Dr Jonathan and his colleague Dr Kavita for any problems related to the musculoskeletal system, you will definitely feel at home and will get better.
