After helping hundreds of Westchester County herniated disc sufferers eliminated their pain, Local Doctor explains how…
“Back Pain Technology Cheats Mother Nature Helps Herniated Discs Heal Naturally… In As Little As 25 Minutes!” At Last! Westchester County Doctor Offers Technology That Doesn’t Just End SEVERE Pain From Herniated Discs, But Helps Your Body To Start Rebuilding Them… As Fast As Humanly Possible! Best Part: You can check it all out for FREE if you like! There is no doubt… technology has made all of our lives better… and easier. Just about every miraculous medical cure and comfort of modern living can be attributed to amazing breakthroughs in technology. Heck, laser eye surgery can give people who are almost as blind as a bat perfect 20/20 vision. How amazing is that? That’s why it’s no surprise that technology might be able to solve your back and neck pain from herniated/bulging discs or sciatica…for good. Here is why: Back and neck pain can be devastating. And nothing is worse than going to doctor after doctor… trying treatment after treatment… spending money you can’t afford… and still suffering in pain. That’s why… I bet you would love to instantly end your pain… without any risk what-soever… and have it never come back for the rest of your life? Well, that might NOT be so easy. But, what if there was a wonderful advancement in technology that, with a handful of simple, non-invasive treatments, could possibly have you out of pain and on your way to healing naturally? Better yet, what if this technology could possibly heal your herniated/bulging discs (instead of cutting it out like surgery) so you have the best chance to live pain-free and do all the things you want and love to do? And what if this technology was: 3 FDA cleared! 3 Proven safe and effective! 3 Allows your herniated discs to heal naturally without the risky and dangerous side effects of surgery! 3 Relieves pain fast… in some cases in as little as 25 minutes! Well, guess what? There is such technology and there is a very good chance it can help you… like it has already helps thousands of herniated/bulging disc and sciatica sufferers all around the country… No Matter How Bad Your Pain Is, How Long You’ve Been Suffering Or How Many Other Treatments And Doctors Have Failed You! Don’t laugh. It’s really true. Here’s proof…
When you have a herniated disc, compressive forces cause your spinal bones to come together… basically squashing your disc. The space in between your bones decreases and the soft, jello-like disc material leaks out. This disc material that leaks out is called a herniated disc and can cause severe pain, numbness and tingling in your neck, back, arms or legs when the herniation pushes into and “pinches” a nerve. So it makes sense, if you could slightly pull the spinal bones apart… that would open up the space, take the pressure off the disc, the disc off the nerve and solve the problem. Right? But the only problem is… how do you do that? For years and years, doctors have been trying to do it with traction. But traction has been proven ineffective and often very painful. Why? Traction doesn’t work because when you have a herniated or bulging disc, the area is injured and when you try to move, your muscles go into spasm. Spasm is your body’s way of trying to protect you from causing further injury. That’s why traction hurts so much. As soon as the traction starts… your muscles overprotect the area and spasm. But the good news is: Now there is technology that out-smarts your body’s natural spasm reaction. In other words: It fools mother nature! This technology is called non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) and here’s how it works… NSSD is very different from plain traction because it has advanced computer technology that actually senses your spinal muscles. When it starts to gently pull, it immediately knows when your muscles start to contract and it stops pulling. As soon as your muscles relax, it starts pulling again. The amazing thing is: the computer senses your muscles contraction so early… you don’t even feel what is going on. Which means you never feel any pain! In fact, the only thing most patients feel is… RELIEF!!! But the best part is: NSSD is able to gently separate your spinal bones which, in many cases, actually sucks the herniated disc material back into the disc where it belongs! This takes away your pain and allows your herniated and bulging discs to heal naturally!
And check this out: Treatments are pleasant and simple. All you have to do is lie on your back, listen to your favorite music, read a magazine… or… take a nap! The wonderful technology does everything while you simply RELAX the pain away! To sum up NSSD: • For most patients it is 100% painless… in fact many patients actually fall asleep during treatment! • Works fast! Most patients get relief after a handful of treatments – some after the very first! • Is non-invasive so it does not have the dangerous risks of surgery! • Gets to the root cause of the problem and helps it heal naturally! Isn’t modern technology wonderful? And wouldn’t you like to… Give This Great Technology A Try… For Free? If you would, there’s great news. There is a Doctor located at 1241 Mamaroneck Ave. right here in White Plains, NY who has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in this wonderful technology and has been treating herniated/bulging disc and sciatica patients with incredible success. His name is Dr. Jonathan Donath DC, MS and he is so excited about the results he’s been getting, he would like to share it with as many pain sufferers as possible. But There Is A Catch… There’s always a catch... isn’t there? Even though this technology has helped a majority of the patients Dr. Donath has treated… it is not a wonder cure and it does not help everyone.
On the right: healthy disc. Center: Herniated disc with soft disc material leaking out. On the left: Herniated disc material compressing or “pinching” nerve.
For that reason, Dr. Donath does a complete examination on every potential patient and only accepts you if he feels you are most likely to get the pain relief and outcome you are looking for. Dr. Donath’s Special Deal For You! Because the economy is so bad and Dr. Donath wants to help you if possible, he is offering the first 17 people who respond to this article a free consultation and NSSD qualification examination. And if you qualify for NSSD treatments, Dr. Donath will also give you one treatment for FREE! And if you do not qualify, Dr. Donath will help you find the best option for you. That’s why, if you suffer with pain from a herniated/bulging disc or sciatica you should call 914-259-8104 right now. When Barbara answers the phone, simply tell her you would like your free non-surgical spinal decompression consultation and examination. If you are one of the first 17, she will schedule you within the next few days. If you are in a lot of pain or already scheduled for surgery, tell Barbara and she will be sure to get you in immediately. Maybe even today.
On right: Herniated disc with spinal bones “squished” together. Center: NSSD slightly pulls the spinal bones apart, opens up the disc space and allows herniated material to move back into the disc. Left: Herniated material completely back in center of disc allows the disc to heal naturally. Your consultation and examination should take about 60 minutes. During this time you can get all of your questiones answered in a warm and friendly environment. You will know exactly what’s causing your pain and the best possible way to solve it. Dr. Donath will explain to you all your possible options along with his recomendations so you can make the best choice for YOU.
Why Limited To 17? Dr. Donath has limited the number he will accept right now to 17 because he does not believe patients should wait and they should also get the quality personal attention they deserve. When you go for your free visit, I’m sure you will see how unique and pleasant the experience is. It’s nice to be treated like a person and not a number or based on insurance coverage. It’s also nice to know exactly what’s causing your pain and how to relieve it as fast as possible. Dr. Donath’s favorite cases are the one’s that were able to cancel back surgery after only a handful of treatments. Dr. Donath also loves when a herniated disc patient that is in excruciating pain and thinks they’ve tried everything, lays down on the NSSD table, takes a 25 minute nap… and… wakes up with all their pain GONE! Just imagine how it would feel to have all your pain finally gone. Imagine going to bed and being able to sleep the entire night through… … and waking up refreshed and energized… ready to take on the brand new day – without the pain and stiffness that has been terrorizing you. And imagine finally knowing you have the solution to your herniated disc pain. Well, you may not have to just “imagine” anymore… because… NSSD might start relieving your pain… in just 25 minutes! So, if you’d like to see if you qualify and give this amazing technology a try for free… give Barbara a call at 914-259-8104 right now. Why wait one more day in pain when the solution may be one quick phone call away? Call now before someone else gets your free spot. One More Thing It’s Important… Ever since getting this wonderful technology, Dr. Donath’s office has been flooded with calls. For that reason, if when you call, the lines are busy or you go to voice mail… just keep calling back. The possibility of living pain-free is well worth the time and effort it may take you to get through and schedule your appointment. 914-259-8104

Stay healthy on Valentine’s Day…and every day Whether you plan to celebrate on your own or with someone special, use these tips to give a gift of health to you or someone you love on Valentine’s Day and all year long. Go easy on the bubbly. If you drink alcohol, do so only in moderation. Excessive alcohol use has immediate effects that increase the risk of many harmful health conditions. It is also the third leading cause of preventable death. Don't drink and drive or let others drink and drive. Women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant should not drink any alcohol.
Be safe. Gear up. Are you considering a new, potentially risky, or unsafe activity? Be sure to use appropriate safety gear, including seat belts, life vests, and helmets to help prevent injury. Watch the sparks. If you decide to cook a romantic dinner, light some candles, or have a cozy fire, don’t leave them unattended.
Be sensitive. Consider that your valentine may have allergies, asthma, diabetes, or other health conditions. You can be sensitive to your valentine by finding out if certain foods, flowers, pets, stuffed animals, or other items might affect their health.
Be heart-healthy.
Top Pediatric Dentist in Westchester 5 years and counting!
Make A Date With Your Heart! February is American Heart Month, and Valentine's Day is a great time to start taking steps to be heart-healthy. Prevent and control high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke. Limit alcohol use. Maintain a healthy weight. Be active. Eat healthy.
Be food-conscious. Consider making a healthy meal for Valentine’s Day. Serve food lower in salt and fat content, provide more fruits and vegetables, and make less sugary sweets for an overall healthy Valentine’s Day.
Be prepared for travel. If you are going on a romantic getaway, be prepared. Are vaccinations required? Are there special items such as sunscreen or insect repellent that you will need? If you take medications, do you have enough for the trip? If you're going on a cruise, learn the sanitation inspection scores for specific ships. Know what’s happening en route or at your travel destination.

Heart Disease in Women Do you know what causes heart disease in women? What about the survival rate? Or whether women of all ethnicities share the same risk? The fact is, according to the American Heart Association: Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing one in three deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute! But it doesn’t affect all women alike, and the warning signs for women aren’t the same in men. What’s more: These facts only begin to scratch the surface. There are a several misconceptions about heart disease in women, and they could be putting you at risk. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health for this very reason. February is American Heart Month. Causes and prevention of heart disease in women Heart disease is the No. 1 killer in women. Yet, only one in five American women believe that heart disease is her greatest health threat. The truth is, women are less likely to call 9-1-1 when experiencing symptoms of a heart attack themselves. It simply doesn’t occur to them to do so. And why would it? The bulk of media attention on the disease is focused on men.
Here are more unsettling facts: Heart disease causes 1 in 3 women’s deaths each year, killing approximately one woman every minute. 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease. Since 1984, more women than men have died each year from heart disease and the gap between men and women’s survival continues to widen. The symptoms of heart disease can be different in women vs. men, and are often misunderstood.
What causes heart disease? Heart disease affects the blood vessels and cardiovascular system. Numerous problems can result from this, many of which are related to a process called atherosclerosis, a condition that develops when plaque builds up in the walls of the arteries. This buildup narrows the arteries, making it harder for blood to flow through. If a blood clot forms, it can stop the blood flow. This can cause a heart attack or stroke. Heart disease can take many other forms as well: Heart failure or congestive heart failure, which means that the heart is still working, but it isn’t pumping blood as well as it should, or getting enough oxygen. Arrhythmia or an abnormal rhythm of the heart, which means the heart is either beating too fast, too slow or irregularly. This can affect how well the heart is functioning and whether or not the heart is able to pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs. Heart valve problems can lead to the heart not opening enough to allow proper blood flow. Sometimes the heart valves don’t close and blood leaks through, or the valve leaflets bulge or prolapse into the upper chamber, causing blood to flow backward through them. continued on next page
Heart Disease in Women continued How you can prevent it? Many things can put you at risk for these problems – one’s you can control, and others that you can’t. But the key takeaway is that with the right information, education and care, heart disease in women can be treated, prevented and even ended. Studies show that healthy choices have resulted in 330 fewer women dying from heart disease per day. Here are a few lifestyle changes you should make: Don’t smoke Manage your blood sugar Get your blood pressure under control Lower your cholesterol Know your family history Stay active Lose weight Eat healthy General statistics of heart disease in women Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined. An estimated 43 million women in the U.S. are affected by heart disease. Ninety percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease. Since 1984, more women than men have died each year from heart disease. The symptoms of heart disease can be different in women and men, and are often misunderstood. While 1 in 31 American women dies from breast cancer each year, 1 in 3 dies of heart disease. Only 1 in 5 American women believe that heart disease is her greatest health threat. Women comprise only 24 percent of participants in all heart-related studies. F
Hispanic women Hispanic women are likely to develop heart disease 10 years earlier than Caucasian women.
Healthcare News - Westchester February, 2014
Only 1 in 3 Hispanic women are aware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer. Only 3 in 10 Hispanic women say they have been informed that they are at a higher risk. Only 1 in 4 Hispanic women is aware of treatment options.
Hispanic women are more likely to take preventive actions for their family when it comes to heart health. African American women Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for
African American women. Of African American women ages 20 and older, 46.9 percent have cardiovascular disease Only 1 in 5 African American women thinks she is personally at risk.

Nearly 50 percent of African American women are aware of the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Only 43 percent of African American know that heart disease is their greatest health risk.

Heart Healthy Tips 1. Take the stairs instead of an elevator or escalator at school or the mall. Just start with one flight. Soon, you’ll be ready for two.
15. Make up for missed sessions. Reschedule them for another day, or add time to your next workout.
2. Park your car at the far end of the parking lot. The short walk to and from the store or school helps your heart.
16. Start talking to your doctor now to see if you are at risk for heart disease and what you can do to decrease that risk and maximize good health.
3. If you ride a bus or subway, get off a stop before your destination. Walk the rest of the way.
17. Check your blood sugar and blood pressure levels. Knowing where you stand is a key step.
4. If you can, spend a few minutes of your lunch break taking a stroll around your workplace. It should help you stay awake after lunch.
18. Smoking one cigarette per day triples your risk for heart disease. Quitting is your best option if you have plans to live a long life. Speak with your doctor about a plan to withdraw.
5. Think of housework as an extra chance to exercise. Vacuuming briskly can be a real workout. 6. Mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, and raking leaves are chores that double as cardio workouts. 7. If you have a dog, think of the dog as an exercise machine with fur. A brisk walk with the dog is good for both of your hearts. Make it a part of your daily routine. 8. If you have a family, schedule an after-dinner walk. Make it quality time. 9. Talk to your doctor about creating a regular exercise program that works well for your lifestyle and health goals. 10. Ask a friend or family member to start your program with you. 11. Work out a convenient schedule for exercise, right down to the time of day, to help you develop a consistent pattern. 12. Gradually build up your workout to 30 to 60 minutes, three to four times a week. 13. Be sure to drink water before, during and after your workout. 14. Use an exercise log to track your activities. Mark the time or distance of each workout on your log.
19. Make it a habit to floss daily as flossing helps to prevent gum disease, which is known to cause the arteries to thicken. Dental floss now comes in a variety of forms. Find one that’s easier to use than the traditional string to make flossing more fun. 20. Depriving your body of the rest it needs puts a strain on the heart. Try to get a minimum of eight straight hours of sleep everyday. 21. Stop stressing. Stress restricts blood flow, since it makes the blood vessels stiff. Take up an activity such as volunteering, as giving back helps you feel more relaxed and at peace with the world. 22. Drink more water overall, as it prevents your blood from thickening. Not only is water good for your heart, but your kidneys and overall health also benefit. 23. Limit drinking soda and stay away from sugar-filled juices. This can cut your risk of heart attack significantly. 24. Hug as many people as you can on a daily basis. Think good thoughts filled with love as this improves your mood and the health of your heart. 25. Consume fish oil on a daily basis for its numerous health benefits. Fish oil contains high levels of Omega 3’s which have many heart protection properties. *Part of this list was adapted from information from the American Heart

The Importance of Elder Law: You must protect your assets, family and future now! For nearly 30 years, practicing law has been Ely Rosenzveig’s passion. His inspiration? That comes from, among other things, his life experiences, the people he has met, and the clients he works with every day. The widow who didn’t have a will and was concerned about her financial future. The family that was reeling from health issues impacting their elderly loved ones without any planning in place to address their needs, leaving them with the prospect of exorbitantly expensive care needs. Ely Rosenzveig was a rabbi in Westchester County. The plight of some in his congregation moved him to practice elder law and trust and estate planning. He would become a senior partner at one of the foremost elder law firms in the country, but left to join hands with his son, Ariel. “I really jumped at the opportunity to work in this area of law,” Ely Rosenzveig said. “I think it’s special kind of work. To help people and work with your son is incredibly rewarding. Ariel is a great asset – a wonderful and gifted young attorney.” The law firm of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. in White Plains practices in all areas of elder law, including trust and
estate planning, administration, and litigation, tax counsel, asset protection and special needs planning, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security disability benefits, guardianships, long term care planning, spousal recovery claims, and Medicaid lien resolutions. Father and son pride themselves on an unyielding commitment to the zealous advocacy of their clients’ interests. Estate planning is one of the most important steps any person can take to make sure that their final property and health care wishes are honored, and that loved ones are provided for in their absence. A comprehensive estate plan can resolve a number of legal questions that arise whenever anyone dies. Appropriate estate and Medicaid planning can help preserve assets, reduce taxes, and help individuals qualify for Medicaid. “People don’t want to talk about illness and death,” Ariel Rosenzveig said. ““It’s a tough subject. People are reluctant, but the type of measures that we implement for our clients can save them and their loved ones a lot of money. Proper planning will help provide financial and emotional security for all involved.”
The firm is very experienced in making sure that those eligible for Medicaid and Medicare get the benefits they deserve. Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. has been very successful in negotiating the complex bureaucratic minefield in which Medicaid is now mired, a dynamic only exacerbated with the passage of the Deficit reduction Act of 2006, and the new rules regarding the look-back requirements, and penalty period calculations for non-Medicaid exempt asset transfers. The firm has achieved remarkable results for clients on a host of Medicaid related issues, from getting Medicaid approvals for coverage of home care and institutional care benefits, to very accommodative resolutions of Medicaid spousal recovery claims, where the office of Medicaid aggressively pursues the non-institutionalized (i.e., or “community”) spouse for Medicaid benefits provided. No matter what the case, Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. prides itself on working with each client individually, catering to each one’s diverse needs. Estate planning should begin at a young age with a will, health care proxy, living
will and durable power of attorney. As you grow older and accumulate assets, it is especially important that you speak with an experience elder law attorney issues pertaining to issues concerning Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and further estate planning. Elder law is about more than just saving money. When viewed properly, elder law is about two major things: First, ensuring that your personal wishes — financial, medical, and legal — are carried out; and second, understanding that elder law is a family matter affecting an intricate web of individual relationships. Knowing that your potential long-term care needs have already been addressed frees you and your family from needless worry. And Ely and Ariel Rosenzveig are there to help their cherished clients every step of the way. “We want every client to feel like they are our only client,” Ely Rosenzveig said. “We are totally committed to ensuring that we be fully responsive to our clients’ every need. For us, this is tremendously rewarding. It is the very reason why we have become elder law attorneys.”

The Power of Exercise! Exercise not only helps with weight management, but also plays an essential role in the recovery and prevention process of many diseases/conditions. In many cases exercise can also be an adjunct to disease management and/or an alternative to medicine and surgery. So what is ‘safe regular physical activity and exercise’ and how do you know where to begin? Physical activity is anything that makes you move your body and burns calories. Examples include raking leaves, climbing stairs, walking or playing sports. It becomes regular or planned when you organize your activities into a consistent, ongoing On countless occasions, we have all heard and read the recommendations to increase physical activity and regular exercise. We know it’s good for us, research has backed it up for years, and our doctors have encouraged it repeatedly. But, too often the power of exercise is overlooked and it is not recognized for the role it plays in disease prevention and management. Did you know that performing safe regular moderate to vigorous intensity exercise helps with weight management, and can also: ✓ Decrease cholesterol and blood pressure ✓ Increase endurance and heart/lung function ✓ Assist in diabetes, arthritis, and pain management ✓ Relieve stress and increase energy levels ✓ Assist in GI function and regularity ✓ Improve balance, circulation, and brain function ✓ Improve immune system strength ✓ Decrease risk of developing heart disease and diabetes
program. Exercise is movement/activity directed to challenge the body to move and function more efficiently and maintain optimal performance. Exercise is safe and beneficial when paced and personalized. If you plan to start a new workout routine first consult with your doctor to ensure it is safe for you to exercise. An evaluation by a physical therapist is also highly recommended if you are exercising after an injury, surgery or have a chronic condition that's limits your mobility. A physical therapist can tailor your exercise program to your needs, abilities, medical status, and personal precautions. Once you get the green light from your healthcare professional, you can refer to the guidelines below to get started.
The American Heart Association Physical Activity Recommendations/guidelines • Get the equivalent of at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity (2 hours and 30 minutes) each week • You can incorporate your weekly physical activity with 30 minutes a day on at least 5 days a week • Physical activity should be performed in episodes of at least 10 minutes, and preferably, it should be spread throughout the week • Include flexibility and stretching exercises • Include muscle strengthening activity at least 2 days each week All in all, physical activity and exercise are essential for your optimal wellness and maintenance of quality of life. Whatever your motivation, the bottom line is that you have the power to make exercise work for you! January – a time for renewing your mind, body and soul As we welcome in 2014, we reflect back on all the things 2013 had to offer. Some were good, some were not so good but we plowed through and are here in 2014. January 1st symbolizes a new beginning, a time when people make resolutions and vow to make positive changes in their lives. This is good and bad at the same time. It is good because it gives us a goal, something to strive for, something to look forward to. It is bad because some of the goals or resolutions we make are unrealistic and we end up giving up on them early in the game. Don’t stress yourself out by setting goals that are unattainable. Sure, goals are great and we all should have something that we are looking to achieve but if you do it in moderation, then the goals are easier to obtain and you won’t be giving up as easily. Where am I going with this you ask? What is the number 1 New Years’ resolution? TO LOSE WEIGHT! Weight loss is a great thing: it helps your sugar levels, takes pressure off your joints, helps all your organs, makes you feel and look better….the list goes on and on. The problem at this time of the year people set unrealistic goals such as I want to lose 50 pounds this year by going on a strict diet and I am going to go to the gym 6 days a week. Guess what…by mid-February they find that getting to the gym 6 days every week may not be realistic. The diet they set up for themselves to lose that 50 pounds is unrealistic and they end up GAINING weight instead of losing weight. You know the expression “slow and steady wins the race”? Well that is true for almost everything – especially weight loss. Everything in moderation is what will yield results. Turn that 50 pound goal into I am going to fit into that (fill in the article of clothing) within the next 6 months. Keep trying it on weekly to see how it fits and that will help you with your goal. OR…I want to lose 10 pounds within 3
months. I will try to get to the gym at least 3 times a week (if it is more, then GREAT). The fact of the matter is the weight didn’t go on overnight so it’s not going to come off overnight and ANY diet that tells you that is how they are designed to work that is UNHEALTHY. The body needs a combination of fats, sugars, carbs, vegetables and fruits on a daily basis—but
the CORRECT kinds. Not all carbs or sugars are created equal. Any diet that has you eating less than 1,200 calories a day again is unhealthy. Your body needs a certain amount of calories to burn in order to burn the fat, not the muscle in your body. If you eat too little not only will you be hungry and end up overeating at some point, you will be losing muscle mass, not fat.
So what have I done and what am I doing going forward? I go to the gym 3-5 days a week (sometimes more, sometimes less depending on my schedule but I don’t stress over it), I eat healthy but don’t deprive myself of something I really want. If I give in to my craving I just need a taste of it to be satisfied. I also have been able to cut down on my portion sizes which helps a great deal with not overeating. I stop when I am satisfied, not overfull or stuffed as I would do in the past. I take my PLEXUS SLIM once a day, drink plenty of water and I find that I am able to eat less and do not have the cravings for carbs and sugar like I used to. In fact I no longer like M&M’s or TWIX. These use to be my FAVORITE candies and I could eat them uncontrollably. As for chocolate, I will eat a small piece of dark chocolate (high cacao) and be satisfied. Now when I go out to eat, I end up taking at least half my meal home every time. If I want dessert I will share something with someone but most
of the times I am too full to even think about dessert. I usually don’t even order an appetizer because then most of my meal is coming home. PLEXUS SLIM—the PINK DRINK helps regulate your blood sugar. It flushes toxins out through your body, can help control cravings for sugars and carbs. It has helped me lose 2 dress sizes to date (I don’t use a scale so I don’t know actual pounds) and numerous inches all over my body. My husband has had success with the SLIM lowering his cholesterol to GOOD levels where before he was always high even with medication. PLEXUS offers a full line of health and wellness products which I have found beneficial to weight loss and overall health. Check out all that PLEXUS has to offer at www.plexusslim.com /dsnyder So the bottom line----set REALISTIC goals for yourself, everything in MODERATION and Slow and Steady Wins the Race. Here’s to a happy and healthy 2014.

10 tips for balancing busy schedules and healthy family meals We can appreciate how hard it can seem to get a well-balanced meal on the table during busy nights juggling sports, dance class, homework and work or school events because we've been there. We culled the collective wisdom of busy parents from around Westchester County and these were the top 10 big ideas they shared, from their families to yours.
1. Planning is essential; develop systems that make the purchasing, preparing and partaking easier
6. Turn off technology and tune into each other. Make conversation the focus of family meals, but keep it light. The dinner table is not the place for discipline.
2. Keep it simple. Family meals don’t have to be elaborate to be healthy and effective. Come up with easy ways to balance your meal with simple vegetable side dishes or fruit and yogurt for dessert.
7. Share the work. Enlist help from the family, from planning the shopping list to making lunches, setting the table, pouring the milk and clean up.
3. Have healthy food on hand and eat from your freezer or pantry on busy weeknights. Prepare double batches of food when you’re less rushed so you can cook once, eat twice.
8. Eating as a family is truly comforting, from toddlers, teens to adults. Family meals can become a cherished tradition for the whole family.
4. Family meal does not have to be dinner, breakfast or lunch may work better in some households.
9. Dump the guilt. Family meals may not happen every day, and that’s ok. Make the most of your family meals when they occur.
5. Toughen up. Offer your family one meal that includes all five-food groups and everyone should be able to find something they’ll want to eat.
10. Family meals aren’t always easy, but we think they’re always worth the effort. Take the Eat Better, Eat Together family meal pledge today!

Shoveling tips If you’re waiting for that snow in your driveway and on your walkway to magically melt at once, well, we have a tip for you: It’s not going to happen. With the winter, of course, comes snow. Often, there is lots of it, leaving you in the bitter cold with shovel in hand. Sigh. Snow shoveling can be difficult enough without making the job tougher on yourself. Read these Healthcare News tips to make the job of clearing a driveway easier. Stretch first Don't be in a hurry to get outside. Stretch your hamstrings, stretch your back, and stretch your shoulders. Then dress in removable layers, grab your shovel and resist the urge to fly at the white stuff just to get the job done. Pace yourself. Start slowly and ramp up to speed. Maintain proper posture: • Use your leg muscles as much as possible push snow when you can and use your legs to lift when you can't push it. • Keep your back straight as you move from the squat position to the upright position. • Use your shoulder muscles as much as possible. • Hold the snow shovel as close to your upper body as possible. • Keep one hand close to the shovel blade for better leverage. • Don't twist your upper body as you throw snow. Keep hydrated Take bottles of water out with you and keep them accessible, either in the car or on the front stoop or somewhere else convenient. Rest frequently Clearing an area by hand means that you may lift and carry anywhere from hundreds of pounds to tons of snow.

Valentine’s Day Survival Tips Marketing-inspired images of lovers exchanging heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, advertisements that invite couples to escape for a romantic getaway for two, and pretty much everything else to do with Valentine’s Day can paint a picture that is painfully at-odds with what many divorced people experience this time of year. However, instead of being a day to dread, Healthcare News has compiled a list of 5 Valentine's Day survival tips for divorced people. 1. Learn from the experience. Divorce takes a lot away from you -- it tolls your physical health, your emotional health, your money, your time, and sometimes even your self-respect and dignity. However, divorce can also give something incredibly valuable: knowledge that you can use to learn from the experience. 2. Instead of feeling badly about not receiving any gifts, become a thoughtful gift giver. Make a list of people you love and surprise them with something thoughtful. Remember the phrase: “it’s better to give than to receive.” Give it a shot! Plan to hand-deliver as many gifts as you can so your day is busy and full of good feelings. 3. Plan a night out with your single friends. Chances are you’ve still got one or two. Remember that it’s not odd or unusual in any way to be single on Valentine’s Day.
Right now there are more singles in this country than ever; it’s a great time to have a valentine’s day party or go out as a group. 4. gather up those old love notes that cause more pain than anything else and have a Valentine’s Bonfire. You can do this in your fireplace, make a circle of large stones in your backyard or go somewhere neutral where it’s safe to build a fire and light it up! Burn those letters one by one or toss them all in and watch the flames roar. Nothing warms a wounded heart more than destroying painful memories. 5. For those who are ready to move on and feel that Valentine’s Day requires a date, find an appealing singles event in your area. Look on community websites or in the local paper to find advertised events or just ask around at the office, church, temple or any other place you frequent. Not one for singles events? Don’t be afraid to browse online dating sites.

Health tips: Pick up the pace! Your HEART depends on it Walking is a great way to get some fresh air, work your leg muscles and improve your heart health. While there are benefits to going for a stroll, increasing your speed a bit may be much more beneficial to your heart. Studies found that exercise intensity, not duration, is what matters most in the battle against metabolic syndrome, a combination of risk factors—including high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar levels, abnormal blood fat levels and abdominal obesity—that increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke. If you’ve developed a walking routine to decrease your heart disease risks, try picking up the pace and even jogging. If you’re new to exercise, talk with your doctor before beginning a more intense walking or jogging regimen. Walking is one of the easiest and most efficient ways of getting exercise, so make sure to get off your couch and get moving!

Cavaliere, CLTC The 2014 limits on contribution and out-of-pocket spending amounts for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and for the HighDeductible Health Plans (HDHPs) were increased again this year by the IRS. In Revenue Procedure 2013-25, the IRS provided the inflation-adjusted HSA contribution and HDHP minimum deductible and out-of-pocket limits for 2014. The higher rates reflect the cost-of-living adjustment and rounding rules of Internal Revenue Code section 223.

Here are some important points regarding HSAs and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act: HSa penalties for nonqualified expenses Effective Jan. 1, 2011, the penalty for using HSA funds for nonqualified medical expenses for those under the age of 65 (unless totally and permanently disabled) increased from 10 percent to 20 percent of the funds used for nonqualified expenses. Funds spent for nonqualified purposes also are subject to income tax. HSas and coverage of adult children under age 26 While the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) allows parents to add their adult children (up to age 26) to their health plans, the IRS has not changed its definition of a dependent for health savings accounts. This means that an employee whose 24-year-old child is covered on their HSA-qualified high-deductible health plan is not eligible to use HSA funds to pay for medical bills for that 24-year-old. If account holders can't claim a child as a dependent on their tax returns, then they can't spend HSA dollars on services provided to that child. According to the IRS definition, a dependent is a qualifying child who: • Has same principal place of abode as the covered employee for more than one-half of the taxable year. • Has not provided over one-half of their own support during the taxable year. • Is not yet age 19 (or not yet age 24 if a student) at the end of the tax year • Is permanently and totally disabled. What do doctors do to treat their own pain? As a board-certified internist who has been in practice for over 13 years, I spend much of my time attempting to alleviate the pain and suffering of my patients. As a clinician, one of the biggest challenges I face is helping my patients deal with musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes—those all-too-common, yet frequently debilitating ailments caused by bad backs, pinched nerves, arthritis, and the like. Unfortunately, much of what I have to offer my patients boils down to the following: take a pain pill, stretch if you can, wait, and hope for the best. After a failed trial of “conservative” therapy a call might go out to the orthopedic surgeon for assistance; a truly satisfactory result is not common. The simple fact is that physicians are not well trained to deal with musculoskeletal pain, and patients can suffer as a result. Thankfully, my views on this topic have been turned completely upside down since I havepersonally discovered Dr. Jonathan Donath’s outstanding practice. After beginning a vigorous exercise regimen I started to experience awful neck and upper back pain, accompanied by numbness and tingling down my left arm and fingers. For weeks I tried to nurse the pain with non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, but the pain persisted and got to the point that I was almost unable to work, sleep, or most importantly, play guitar. I wasliterally in tears from the excruciating pain. A neurosurgeon diagnosed a herniated disc and pinched nerve in my neck and offered to decompress it with an operation. In desperation I called Dr. Donath instead. My visit to Dr. Donath’s office was an outstanding experience. He spent about an hour with me and combined multiple modalities to fix the herniated disc in my neck: deep massage, active release techniques, traditional manipulation, cold therapy, and finally spinal decompression. After that first hour with Dr. Donath my pain had decreased from a 10/10 down to a manageable 4/10, and I was able to comfortably move my head and neck. That very night I was able to play guitar again. Two days later I went back for another series of treatments and the pain decreased even further. After about five days the pain was absolutely gone. Unbelievable! Since then he has used the same wonderful techniques to help me overcome painful bouts of sciatica as well. My own patients and family members have become “believers” in Dr. Donath’s abilities as well--- the results he achieves are real and lasting. He is my go to guy for the majority of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes that I now realize are truly treatable. I am a pediatrician and in my work, I have to bend down a lot and I’m constantly lifting kids. I usually have one to three bad flare ups of low back pain every year. When my back would "go out", I could barely walk to the bathroom and would have to lie down in bed for a few days. I have tried everything: doing nothing and "toughing it out", muscle relaxants, physical therapy, chiropractic, therapeutic massage, and even painful steroid injections. Nothing worked. When I moved to Westchester, I met Dr. Jonathan Donath. In just a couple of sessions with Dr. Donath, the pain completely disappeared. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. During my last flare up, I was expecting to be on my back for 2-3 days and in pain for 2 weeks. Instead, after one session with Dr. Donath, I was able to walk; two more sessions and I was fine. I could walk, bend down and I had almost no pain. Since that last back episode, Dr. Donath has helped me with my tendonitis in my right hand and with my chronic knee problems. I recommend Dr. Donath to everyone with back, muscle or joint pain. Even if you have not had relief with other treatments and other Chiropractors, give Dr. Donath a chance. I did and he changed my life. Eugene Dinkevich MD, Mount Vernon, NY It’s my great pleasure to write about Westchester Spinal Decompression Center. I really don’t have words to express my feelings about the care I got in last 3 months. I was almost handicapped, living with terrible pain all the time, crippling my day to day life. I am a medical doctor and work in a hospital with all sorts of amazing physicians, but after seeing a physical therapist, getting epidural steroids injections, many orthopedists and neurosurgeons, finally my destination lead me to see Dr Jonathan Donath. With great skepticism, I lied down for spinal decompression therapy. It was unbelievable that after only two initial sessions, my radiating pain down my leg had almost disappeared. Gradually, I started getting better, started doing exercises that they gave me midway through the treatment. Now, I am doing all my daily activities without any pain. I highly recommend Dr Jonathan and his colleague Dr Kavita for any problems related to the musculoskeletal system, you will definitely feel at home and will get better.
