Bemidji Police Department

The Bemidji Police Department consists of a force of 34 full-time officers led by Police Chief Michael Mastin. The administrative support staff includes a crime analyst and an administrative legal assistant. Officers respond to all public safety and traffic calls, and four fulltime detectives investigate crime. Officer squad cars are equipped with life-saving equipment such as defibrillators, first aid supplies and Naloxone. Officers also are equipped with body-worn cameras.
Parking and animal control are enforced by a non-licensed community service officer.
Two Bemidji Police Officers are currently assigned to Bemidji Area Schools — one to the Bemidji High School and the other to the Bemidji Middle School.
The police department belongs to a multijurisdictional SWAT team that responds to highrisk situations and high-risk search warrants.
The police department has an officer assigned to the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force as well as the Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force.
Bemidji Fire

The Bemidji Fire Department, 318 Fifth St. NW, consists of eight full-time firefighters who are on duty 24 hours a day, including Interim Fire Chief Chris Loebs, and 40 paid-on-call firefighters.
The Bemidji Rural Fire Association partners with the City of Bemidji to provide fire protection for the Bemidji area. The department covers city limits, 15 townships and the communities of Wilton and Turtle River. The total fire department service area covers 522 square miles that include approximately 35,000 people.
The fire department answers about 1,200 emergency calls per year.

The fire department has four stations. Station No. 1 is located at 318 Fifth St. NW and three substations are located at 312 Lake Ave. SE, and 3810 Moberg Dr. NW and 883 Winter Sumac Road NE. Bemidji Ambulance Service

Bemidji Ambulance Service, Inc. is the largest privately-owned ambulance service in Minnesota. Family owned and operated since 1961, it responds to more than 4,200 calls for service each year. Bemidji Ambulance is a full-time Advanced Life Support service, staffing three duty crews 24/7, 365 days a year.
