BRYAN BENAVIDES
About me
Hi! I’m Bryan Benavides, Designer with a major in Industrial Design graduated from Universidad Diego Portales, Santiago de Chile.
I’m one of those who believe that design should improve and make the consumer’s life easier. Research is the most essential part of good design. On the other hand, from my point of view, the designer has the obligation to think and create more respectful and environmentally friendly products.
In the last year I have had the opportunity to work for several clients and different subjects, both in 2d and 3d modeling, rendering, digital projection, illustration, corporate image design, textile design, environment design and landscaping. This has allowed me to learn about various subjects and to be more organized, methodical and to know how to communicate with the client.
I am passionate about gardening and agriculture, so my university thesis focused on solving problems that exist in the agricultural industry and contribute to the environment.
Exhibitor Prima Magazine
Interior Design
Description: Design of an exhibition stand for Prima magazine, belonging to the Faculty of Design, Art and Architecture of the Universidad Diego Portales. The exhibitor reflects the vocation of the university faculty through the concept of controlled permeability, which is manifested in the delimitation of space through the tangible and intangible as well as light control and shadow projections thus giving the viewer an instance of privacy and intimacy to explore the magazine on display.
The manifesto that supports the concept and subsequent materialization of the proposal is as follows: “FAAD is a space that celebrates and grants conditions for “The exposed doing” which is reflected in the levels of controlled permeability, thus building a rhythm between what is allowed to be seen and what is not.”

Showcase for taxidermy
Industrial Design
Client: National Museum of Natural History of Chile (MNHN).
The assignment arose from the need to redesign the showcase to exhibit the new acquisition of the MNHN, which is a brown bear from Alaska. The methodology used is the use of sketches, planimetries, 3D visualizations and study of materials, in order to propose an innovation in the showcases.
Project overview: The MHNH with the diagnosis of the existing showcases, concluded that they do not have UV filter, which affects the deterioration of the pigmentation of the specimens, making them less attractive to the public. In addition, it was found that the type of union that they have generates a space between the vertices of the glass allowing the passage of dust, air, humidity and particles that damage the exposed taxidermy. The objective of this project is to improve the conditions in which the species are preserved, in order to protect the natural heritage in an efficient manner and present it in an optimal way to future generations.

Entomological boxes
Industrial Design
Client: National Museum of Natural History of Chile (MNHN).
The assignment was part of a new exhibition that the MNHN was working on. I was asked to redesign the entomological boxes, that is, the exhibitors where the insects are displayed to the public.
To carry out this assignment I used a methodology that involves first the analysis and study of direct references, materiality and construction systems. After having this background I started to develop the proposal mainly through 3D modeling.
Project overview:
As a new exhibition was planned, the exhibition area needed the displays to be suitable for visitors to interact safely with the material on display. Therefore my task was to facilitate the assembly of the exhibition through a constructive system, assembly and anchoring of the entomological boxes.

Kelpot - Thesis Project Industrial Design
by Bryan Benavides Parraguez
January 23, 2018, Santiago, Chile
Guiding professor: Cristián González
Design degree project, Biodegradable agricultural container based on waste from the algae processing industry. It was worked together with the multinational chemical company Alchi Chile S.A. and with the company Univiveros, the most important fruit industry in the country.
be planted in the soil and in addition to the contamination produced by these oil-derived containers.
DESCRIPTION:
Kelpot is a biodegradable container based on the industrial waste called kelpi, from the algae processing company, Alchi Chile. It is designed for fruit species, specifically for grapevines. The objective is to reduce the mortality rate generated by the stress caused during the transplanting of the plants to their final location, which ranges between 4% and 20%. In addition to providing nutritional support to the plant, it also protects it and conditions the soil where it will develop thanks to the properties of this residue. Therefore, an alternative to the containers currently used is proposed, which cause a series of inconveniences, such as the loss of a large number of specimens, since when they are extracted from the container they suffer stress and damage to their root system (roots), being discarded to
Biodegradable
What plants?
Fruit species, specifically grapevines.
What is it made of?
Kelpi, which is an organic waste from the process of extracting alginate from brown algae.
Watering
Every five days, as the material allows constant water retention.
Roots
The morphology of the container, allows the roots to have no problems with of "spiraling".
Contribution:
Nourish the plant, protect it and condition the soil where it will grow.
Decrease the mortality rate generated by the stress caused during transplantation.

Símil Objetual Product Design
Project framed within the redesign of the Chilean school uniform. The proposal is based on a backpack, customizable and adaptable according to the identity of the user, therefore this is a single flat piece that through the folding of itself, generates the volume for the backpack in question, this is contained in a packaging with their respective indications to be assembled through the technique of origami. This project is based on the current observation of students in Chile, which are generating a personal bond with the clothing, being the backpack an everyday accessory in which the identity of the individual is transferred and impregnated, characteristics that allow conceptualizing it as an objectual simile.

Ludomix Product Design
Collaborative
work with designer Valentín Andrade
Ludomix was born from the reflection on gender and its identity as a variable concept through time, which is reflected in the stereotypes and roles that determine what is currently masculine and feminine, restricting and limiting certain competencies in both girls and boys, as well as their future opportunities.
Therefore Ludomix is a playful experience that encourages the development of competencies that have been limited by gender roles and stereotypes during childhood. It has two instances, one constructive and one communicative, which favor:
-The inductive relationship of parts to form a coherent whole.
- The oral expression of a written word. - The participation in communicative situations such as conversations or narrations.
-The cooperation in the game
Manifesto
“To play without distinction of gender to the re-signification of the object, expressing one’s own creativity through construction and oral communication, thus introducing notions of logic, spatiality and linguistic coherence in boys and girls from 4 years of age.”
Characters
The characters are handmade in native Chilean wood, such as Lenga or Raulí, dyed with natural dyes, to promote a simpler and more natural education.
