Lynx and Bison and Elk, oh my! Close by, Hub City Ice Cream is a popular destination for a cool treat, Weber’s Farm offers fresh dairy products and Melody Gardens is an entertaining throw back to the 70s with their skating rink and restaurant. Marshfield also has a wide variety of dining and accommodation options nearby.

But the zoo family extends well beyond the grizzlies. Eagles and Wolves are among some of the popular attractions. Others include: Lynx, Bison, Elk, White-tailed Deer, Prairie Dogs and Wild Birds. The zoo is here for the community and visitors to enjoy and to learn, and makes its purpose clear in its vision statement:

But over the past ten years the zoo has been exploring improvements and expansions to the facility and a way to bring the bears back. The plan is to create a natural environment for the animals while allowing for enrichment opportunities.

The Wildwood Park & Zoo is a first-class facility located in the heart of Wisconsin, easy to get to and even easier to fall in love with. Spend the day exploring the park’s nature trails, playing a game of disc golf, getting friendly with the grizzlies at the zoo, or participating in one of our popular events. in size and will include a one-acre woodland, called the Bear Woods. Perhaps the most exciting new development, however, will be the 65-foot expansion bridge that will run overhead and connect the Bear Woods and their exhibit. It is the first of its kind in the area. “Using bridges to connect (habitats) is a pretty new concept. It’s pretty special that a smaller zoo like us can employ a concept like this,” said Steve Burns, Parks and Recreation zookeeper. Furthermore, a 15-foot-wide glass viewing window will be installed in the exhibit, encouraging up-close and personal bear encounters and providing shade and shelter for visitors. 800-422-4541

FARM TO TABLE

UNIQUE, FRESH AND

What Businesses Participate? As more businesses join this movement, the options only get

LOCAL CUISINE

more enjoyable.

You might already know that you can “taste the exotic” with a

embraced the Farm to Table program. The food and drink

succulent elk burger at the Blue Heron Brew Pub in Marshfield,

options produced locally are fresher, better for the environment,

topped with “just picked” lettuce and tomato, sitting next to a

healthier, and as unique as it gets. This is how great meals are

bed of warm, house-made potato chips. However, it might be

made, and remembered!

In addition to the Blue Heron Brew Pub,

the Thomas House, Vintage House, Lammar’s Smokehouse, Belvedere Supper Club, Scotty’s Pizza and JJ’s Bakery have

a surprise to find out that the elk are raised right here in North Central Wisconsin at the Hemlock Hills Ranch in Medford. Or how about a pound of free-range organic chicken wings, raised HOURS: Tuesday - Friday 6:30am-2:00pm Saturday 7:00am-Noon

on Sonday Farms in Waupaca, and crisped to a golden brown, served with your choice of home-made sauces …accompanied by a frosty mug of craft beer, brewed in house. As “pioneers” in the “Farm to Table” program, the Blue Heron Brew Pub made a concerted effort to use as much locally grown produce as possible in March of 2012. Since then, the program has become a staple of the Marshfield area, as restaurant managers and chefs have collaborated with local farmers to utilize top quality produce and provide more healthy and unique cuisine.

715-207-1485

What Started Farm to Table?

409 N. Chestnut Ave. Suite 1A Marshfield, WI 54449 jjsbakery2@gmail.com

Farm to Table began as a way for local farmers to bring their goods to market more effectively, and for restaurant managers to produce healthier alternatives. The use of local produce also gives the area local flavor -- literally. There is nowhere else on earth where one can get some of the food offerings that the Farm to Table program makes possible. Marshfield has long been known for some of the “squeakiest” cheese curds, and delicious locally made honey and maple syrup, and our seasonal produce is some of the best in the country . . . but we have so much more to offer. 800-422-4541

WINTER WONDERLAND

TEN YEARS

Twinkles, Lights & Cheer OF

When it’s time to break out the holiday spirit, it’s time to head over to Rotary Winter Wonderland at Marshfield’s Wildwood Park & Zoo. Help us usher in our 10th Anniversary as Central Wisconsin’s holiday event destination. In what has quickly become a seasonal tradition, the zoo glows and twinkles with well over one-million L.E.D. lights!

The lights are just the tip of the iceberg at this year’s Wonderland. Live entertainment for families and children abounds with events almost every night. Visitors can win exciting prizes in the scavenger hunt, get a birds-eye view of the lights from an aircraft tour or take a horse drawn wagon ride. Main Street Marshfield helps keep us warm with the Annual Hot Chocolate Run and a chance to get up close and personal with a visit from Rudolph and his friends on Reindeer day. Another complimentary event to Winter Wonderland is hosted the 1st Sunday in December at the Chestnut Avenue Center for the Arts called “Holiday Showcase.” Visitors can “mingle and jingle” over refreshments while shopping for that perfect gift among the exceptional arts & crafts by local artisans. The show also features a chance to make pottery, bid on fine artwork in a silent auction, and see
