Bence PĂĄsztor Motivation

I am Bence Påsztor, a Hungarian architect student. I am in my fifth year in the Economical and Technical university of Budapest (BME), and currently I am spending my Erasmus semester in Turkey, at the Middle East Technical University of Ankara (METU). I belive that every design problem is unique, and needs a unique answer. I don’t belive in styles, but in a coherent whole. In my whole studies I try to learn, and understand different thinkings and design methods. After this year I am scheduled to start my diploma but before doing this I feel some real world experience in the workplace would be beneficial. Working abroard in a new and challenging environment where I can put myself the test and learn new techniques is the exact experience I am looking for before continuing my studies. In this semester since I have more freedom, I organized my studies to learn about sustainable technologies, and environment friendly architecture. This is the only way I can imagine the architecture of tomorrow. I would like to go on this path, that is why I have choosen the Origins studio to apply for an internship. I am open-minded, resolute, and hardworking. I hope you will like my portfolio, and find me suitable to be a member of your group.

Residental design

1st year

family house

The assignment was to design a family house for a two children family in Budaörs in the Buda hills. The site has a beautiful view, which organises the layout. The conception was to cut out small “scenes” from the panorama, and make the living room the center of the building with the most gorgeous and widest view of the city. The house follows the slope of the terrain, so every room has a direct connnection to the garden.

Commercial design

2nd year

open-air stage

There is an abadonded opencast mine in Nagykovรกcsi, which is looking for a new function. The task was to design an open-air theatre in the canyon. The shape of the buildings are abstracted gravel, made of concrete. A green belt area hugs these gravels, and makes an artifical interior. This green belt works as a glue as it connects the mine wall and the theatre area. The visitors see the green wall first, and the hat of the building. As they walk in the entrance, the interior is revealed step by step. Instead of seats, blankets are used for seating on the grass area around the stage. consultant: Gรกbor Zombor

Housing design

3rd year Urban plan

This project was a collaborative effort involving myself and four other architect students. There is an undeveloped area in the center of Balatonfüred, and the task was to imagine a new citycenter in the place of the houses. The city plan was designed together then the buildings were designed individualy. The planed area is a cultural center of the city. I designed two shops, a bookstore, a hostel and two flats. The team’s main goal was to design the outline of the area to fit into the surrounding cityplan but make another world inside. consultant:

Ádám Vesztergom

The hostel has an own semi-private courtyard, which is connected to the public square. The hostel organizes events for the city, and gives tourists an oportunity to meet and make friendships. In summer there is an openair cinema in the square, in winter it transforms into an iceskating rink. Under the area there is a garage to solve the parking and the supply paths. Art camp

There is an abadonded workshop area in the heart of Sopron. The site was made by cutting off the end of the striped narrow sites in the area. My design goal was to heal this wound, and provide a developement to this zone. This is an art workshop for students of the city in school time, and an art camp in the summer. The area is open during the day and provides free pass to the citizents. There are exhibitions, concerts and events in the square. The auditorium is a stage at the same time if the side of the building is opened towards the square. It transforms the square into a seating area. consultant: Csaba Valkai

wine bar

For further design, i chose the wine bar. The concept was to pick a traditional winery section, split it in half and raise one of the half arches above the other. The arches are made from a steel frame structure, covered with ply-wood, to not mistake the traditional depressed silicate structure with the new one. When we walk in this space we feel the traditional space in a new context. The building uses the old townwall, which appears in the interior. Each floor has a different seating plan to accomodate different types of social occasions. The whole interior is visualy conected.

Small projects

Urn cemetary

The assignment was to design an urn cemetary. My main goal was to create a private, homely space for thinking. The dimensions of the squares are as familiar as the dimensions of a livingroom in an ordinary home. The tree fills the space with life, and also reminds the visitor of the the march of time.

Small projects

Smallest flat The assignment was to design a small flat for a young couple. Only 2 dimensions were given: 4,50x450m, the third dimension was a design question. The goal was to design the smallest livable flat. My concept was to design a space where the owners can live without bothering each other, and use the space as much as possible, without creating anoying vertical differences. saturday 22:31

Waterpipe kiosk

This waterpipe kiosk was designed for festivals and garden parties. It works as a matrioska doll, if we open the box the kiosk is ready to use. There is a working surface on the wood box, and the rest of the equipment is in the green box. Graphic: Bรกlint Egyed
