WELCOME TO THE 2018 BENDFILM FESTIVAL, A CELEBRATION OF INDEPENDENT CINEMA! We are beyond thrilled to bring you the 15th Annual BendFilm Festival.

BendFilm’s core mission is to bring people together through the unique power of independent film. This year, to celebrate this organization’s 15th anniversary, we prioritized sharing this mission to the broader Central Oregon community. Through the generous support of the Oregon Community Foundation and the Collins Foundation we expanded our programs that celebrate women and Native filmmakers. We hope our partners in Madras and Warm Springs see the same benefits that this incredible organization has brought to Bend. Central Oregon has all of the outdoor recreation opportunities anyone can want, but strong cultural programs are what tie us all together. It is truly an honor to serve as Board members of an organization like BendFilm that is so devoted to community. We are standing on the shoulders of incredible community members, such as the late Pamela Hulse Andrews, who had the vision and fortitude to help found this organization and to sustain it during the hard times Bend has faced. It is only through their hard work, determination and dedication that we are still here, and more so, that we are thriving. This year marks our 15th anniversary, but if anything has become clear, we know that there is so much more we can do for the Central Oregon community. 2018 LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
CHANGE HAPPENS HERE The 15th anniversary BendFilm Festival tagline developed by Bend’s Astir Agency succinctly captures BendFilm’s core mission. “Change” is also what we expect to ignite during the Festival’s four days and, hopefully, long after. The film lineup, carefully assembled by the volunteer screening committee and Head of Festival Programming Erik Jambor, is designed to accomplish just that. It all starts with this year’s guests of honor, Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Debra Granik and her long-time collaborator Anne Rosellini. Their filmmaking philosophy of working “...outside the industry as an independent filmmaking team to find material that inspires us and speaks to the human condition and everyday survival” is illustrative of the brave and inspiring work this Festival and this town have championed for the past 15 years. Their latest film, Leave No Trace, is a moving statement on the importance of building strong communities and recognizing our common humanity in a difficult world. It exemplifies our mission where we use this incredibly powerful art form to bring people together and promote understanding, which is why we chose it as our opening film. Debra and Anne will receive the inaugural (indie)Women of the Year Award in honor of the late Pamela Hulse Andrews. Pamela’s life was devoted to celebrating culture, strengthening the Central Oregon community, and staying inhumanly positive during difficult times. Debra and Anne’s work is a testament to all of the things Pamela stood for, and it is no coincidence that they will join us this year’s Festival, the first Festival BendFilm will host without Pamela.
Debra and Anne are two of the many women filmmakers who will be joining us for the Festival. The programming team is presenting a lineup of films where 50 percent are directed by women. This ratio has been a long-term goal of BendFilm, and was achieved this year due to the increase in submitting women filmmakers. We hope someday soon that the larger film industry will also provide women the opportunity to tell their stories in equal measure. Only then will audiences begin to see the world from diverse viewpoints. Diversity of filmmakers helps BendFilm deliver the full breadth of the human experience to our audience. It is an honor to host other special guests like Adam Beach and Ondi Timoner, who both work relentlessly to change the industry from within. They disrupt the status quo by sharing stories of the forgotten and marginalized. They have inspired many other filmmakers who will be presenting their own brave work for the first time to our audience. We will also screen work of filmmakers who have been here before—those that stuck to their independence and fearlessness despite subsequent success. Change and inspiration don’t exist without laughter and love. These films will indeed make you think and feel deeply, but they will also make you smile, laugh, and walk about town with your head held high in wonder and gleeful anticipation for the next surprise. BendFilm, these filmmakers, and this community have shown for 15 years and more that when we come together and celebrate the possibility that creativity brings, positive change soon follows. As our great state continues to grow, so has Bend and Central Oregon. With this growth also came a commitment to expanding Oregon’s unique celebration of arts, culture, and human connection. These elements combine to make BendFilm so special.
Itukdi wigna. I am beyond excited about BendFilm’s Festival lineup at the Madras Performing Arts Center–especially kicking it off with Smoke Signals. This film is not only fun, but also so full of truth and life. Smoke Signals marked Alyssa Macy (left) a change in how Native peoples are portrayed on the big screen. The film proved that when people are allowed to tell their own stories, their fellow people see themselves in a new way and others will better understand and empathize with people unlike themselves. We have raised our children on this film. The community will be incredibly excited to meet the accomplished actor and Native activist Adam Beach. Smoke Signals is also a source of pride for Warm Springs; it was directed by Chris Eyre, whose mother is from the Warm Springs community. The Madras program has other great films by and about Native people who will also bring understanding among and about our people.
The festival started in 2004 by hosting and showcasing Oregon’s unofficial Filmmaker Laureate, Gus Van Sant, and has continued the tradition of showcasing the best filmmaking talent in the region. This special 15th anniversary program includes remarkable independent films made in Oregon, by Oregon filmmakers. We are so fortunate to live in a place with rich culture and majestic natural beauty. This unique combination inspires all of us to embrace creativity, innovation, and ultimately our communities. An interview with Katie Merritt, founder of the BendFilm Festival. BendFilm raised the curtain in 2004 with a mission to promote independent film and celebrate filmmakers who tell stories that help spark cultural change. Here, founder Katie Merritt (pictured below, left) talks about what it took to start BendFilm, the early days of the Festival, and how she feels about it now looking back. BendFilm: What inspired you to start BendFilm 15 years ago? Katie Merritt: A conflux of local and national factors merged with a personal pipe dream and the right timing. Bend was exploding. I’d recently relocated from San Francisco and felt drawn to help Bend’s arts and culture scene keep pace. The Festival came about to provide a venue for filmmakers whose films may not otherwise be seen. I wanted a concentrated Festival where each venue was walking distance or at most, a quick hop from the other. One of the great riches of a film festival are the serendipitous meetings among artists and fans when everyone’s packed into a tight footprint. Once I learned that the classic downtown Tower Theatre was nearly done with a stem-to-stern renovation, I felt the real heat of possibility—enough so that I retired from selling real estate to make the time to take a shot at creating this utopian festival I had buzzing in my head. What was the atmosphere at the Festival like the first year? It was electric. We’d worked for years to create this experience. Long years. Suddenly, time sped up the week of the event and all that we’d conceived, dissected, willed, and visioned was happening…now! There were panics, system upsets, and the like to keep us hopping. Yet, I most vividly recall the extreme joy of watching it unfold, of witnessing the joy the event brought to the audience and the filmmakers.
What are a few of your favorite memories from the early years of BendFilm? Some will recall the Festival in 2004 was headquartered where the Oxford Hotel now stands. We asked the filmmakers and performers to add their sign to a wall in their lounge area and I still have a piece of the wall. I still get misty when I think of Mike Hollern and his team at Brooks Resources. The funding they provided gave BendFilm life, but it was more than that. The faith and relationship they provided BendFilm went far beyond the generosity of a sponsor, or even a founding sponsor. Screening the Puffy Chair with co-writer, director, and star Mark Duplass was great fun. This was the dawn of the mumblecore genre and all that would become of Mark and his brother, Jay. We dragged a recliner similar to the film’s namesake out on stage and roused Jay over speaker phone when Mark accepted the award for best screenplay. BendFilm goes beyond screenings to help develop artists at different levels. What would you tell someone inspired to apply for one of BendFilm’s grants or a young artist considering the Future Filmmakers program? The book Art & Fear by David Bayles and Ted Orland accounts of a ceramics teacher dividing his class into two random groups. He informed one group that the sole basis for their semester grade would be the quality of their work. The other half of the class was told they’d be graded based solely on the quantity of their work. Come grading time, the works of highest quality were all produced by the group being graded for quantity. I suggest that aspiring filmmakers apply for everything, and make everything they possibly can. Park any perfectionism or trepidation and produce! What does it mean to you to see the Festival thriving now and bringing in award-winning films and filmmakers to Central Oregon? It means I feel less guilt over the sweat and tumult everyone suffered to kick the Festival off. Truly, BendFilm is like my first child. To see the festival and BendFilm’s mission thrive into adulthood is gratifying beyond words.

BENDFILM JURY Michelle Alvarado
Narrative, Documentary & Animated Shorts Michelle Alvarado is a director, cinematographer, and owner of Wahoo Films in Bend. With her talented team, she has directed hundreds of short films including Sage Brush Sisters (BendFilm 2016) and Mill Creek, which toured the film festival circuit and aired on OPB Oregon Lens. Michelle also partnered with Wandering Wolverine Productions on the feature documentary Earth Seasoned (BendFilm 2017), which is currently distributed through BullFrogFilms. She co-directed two feature documentaries, Mysteries of the Deep and Inside Story for the Monterey Bay Aquarium theatre. She received a BFA in cinema and television for the University of Southern California.
Beth Barrett
Narrative Features Beth Barrett is the Artistic Director of SIFF (organizers of the Seattle International Film Festival, SIFF Cinema, and SIFF Education). She serves on the board of the Film Festival Alliance, and has participated in juries and panel discussions at several universities and film festivals.
Morgan Capps Environmental/Outdoor Adventure Features and Narrative, Documentary & Animated Shorts Morgan Capps studied film at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University where she served as a Continuing Studies Fellow (2013-2015). Her documentary film work has covered the lives of coal miners struggling against a shifting economy in Appalachia and Native American food movements taking root across the United States. After moving to Santa Fe in 2015 to work on the feature documentary Return as Associate Producer and Cinematographer, Morgan fell in love with the motley crew at Meow Wolf and joined the team as a Film Director and Creative Lead. Her directorial debut, Meow Wolf: Origin Story, co-directed with Jilann Spitzmiller, is screening at this year’s BendFilm Festival. Eric Close
Narrative & Documentary Shorts Eric Close is an actor and director based in Bend. He most recently directed the two-hour movie Christmas at Graceland, which will be released in November. Eric has been a series regular on a number of television shows, many of which he has also directed, including ABC’s hit series Nashville (2012-2017) and CBS’s Without a Trace (2002-2009) and Now and Again (1999-2000). His acting credits include Indivisible, Legal Action, and Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper. Eric graduated with a BA in communications from the University of Southern California in 1989.
Chris Eyre
Native Features Chris Eyre directed the highly-acclaimed feature Smoke Signals, which won both the Audience Award and Filmmakers Trophy at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival. His other films include Skins, Skinwalkers, A Thief of Time, Hideaway, and Edge of America, which garnered him the prestigious DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement from the Director’s Guild of America.

His awards include the Los Angeles Press Club for Editorial Cartooning and the Grambs Aronson Award for Cartooning with a Conscience. Narrative Features Matt Grady is the founder of Factory 25, an independent film production and distribution company launched in 2009. Headquartered in Brooklyn, Factory 25 is a home for conceptually provocative narratives and documentaries. Matt was recently named “One of the Most Influential People in Brooklyn Culture” and has been called “One of the most important curatorial voices of new, independent American films.” His mission is to expose the world to under-the-radar films, music, and other curiosities. Recent titles include All This Panic (BendFilm 2016), Uncle Kent 2, The Color Wheel, Sun Don’t Shine and Kid Thing. Matt also produced Nathan Silver’s The Great Pretender and Onur Tukel’s Applesauce (BendFilm 2015).

Environmental/Outdoor Adventure Features Frank Groundwater Frank Groundwater was introduced to independent film in college and joined the Olympia Film Society in 1989. He was a board member and legal counsel there for more than 20 years before moving to Bend in 2008 and joining BendFilm, serving on the board for seven years. He and his family are passionate about preserving our natural world and are long-time supporters of environmental organizations including the Deschutes River Conservancy, Natural Resources Defense Council, and The Wilderness Society. Frank is an area lawyer specializing in estate planning and real estate, helping families preserve their assets for future generations.

Documentary Features Eric Allen Hatch Eric Allen Hatch is a film programmer, film critic, and consultant for filmmakers and festivals. Eric was the Director of Programming for Maryland Film Festival from 2007 into early 2018 and has curated international film for the Baltimore Museum of Art. He authored the recent, much-discussed “Why I Am Hopeful” article for Filmmaker Magazine and has written extensively on film, music, and literature for Baltimore City Paper. His weekly column “2 Film 2 Festival” for his site “Beyond the Boonmemes” recommends visionary deep cuts of contemporary world cinema, and his monthly MUBI Notebook column “Infinite Fest” takes the pulse of the North American festival scene. Native Features LaRonn Katchia LaRonn Katchia is a 27 year-old Warm Springs/Wasco/Paiute tribal member of the Warm Springs Indian Reservation and is currently pursuing a filmmaking career in Portland. His love and passion for film resides from the influence of the commonly mistreated portrayal of Native Americans in Hollywood films today. His mission is to change the Native stereotypes of film and get it right this time by showcasing the Native American perspective in film and creating original stories filmed by Native directors.

Native Features Isaac Trimble Isaac Trimble is a well known Native American flute artist and film producer based in the Pacific Northwest. His love for performing arts started in theater and film in 1988. Since then Isaac has become passionate about promoting and advocating for the portrayal of Native American issues through media. Isaac’s dedication to community and artistry has led him to receive a lifetime achievement award for music and many film recognitions. In 2017, Isaac produced Missing Indigenous, winner of that year’s Portland 48 Hour Film Project, highlighting the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women. The film went on to premiere at Filmapalooza in Paris, France. Currently Isaac is pursuing a graduate degree program in film while working on short films and preparing for his first feature film.

Jilann Spitzmiller Documentary Features & Environmental/Outdoor Adventure Features Jilann Spitzmiller is an award-winning filmmaker and educator with credits including Shakespeare Behind Bars, which won Best of Show at BendFilm in 2005. Jilann’s work has been shown on outlets such as NBC, PBS, BBC, Sundance Channel, Starz/Encore, Canal + and Al Jazeera. Her film Still Dreaming (BendFilm 2015) is slated to air on PBS in 2018. She has been a Sundance Documentary Fellow and has also created two critically acclaimed documentary projects for National PBS, Homeland and Circle of Stories. Her latest film, Meow Wolf: Origin Story, directed with Morgan Capps, is screening at this year’s BendFilm Festival.

Documentary Features Anne Rosellini Anne Rosellini is a creative producer and writer who runs Still Rolling Productions with director Debra Granik. Together they have made three narrative features: Leave No Trace, which premiered at Sundance and Director’s Fortnight, Winter’s Bone, which was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, and Down to the Bone, which premiered at Sundance and took Best Director that year. She also produced Granik’s first documentary, Stray Dog, which had its network premiere on the PBS documentary series Independent Lens. Rosellini started in programming and acquisitions and holds a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

BendFilm created the (indie)Women of the Year award in honor of the late Pamela Hulse Andrews, who was a pioneer in the Bend arts and culture scene. Pamela was a passionate arts advocate who worked tirelessly to support women in film. For many years, Pamela organized the Independent Women for Independent Film group that raised money for several BendFilm awards and helped BendFilm survive the economic downturn in the late 2000s. BendFilm will carry on Pamela’s memory through this award, presenting it to a female artists who demonstrates an exceptional passion for independent film, bravely shares her authentic voice and makes extraordinary contributions to the independent body of work. Writer/director Debra Granik and writer/producer Anne Rosellini are the inaugural recipients of this award. Contributions to IndieWomen (page 63) partially covered costs to host award recipients. Their four features will be screening throughout the festival weekend. See page 21 for additional details.

WOMEN FILMMAKER GRANT Supporting the next generation of female filmmakers. Thanks to a grant from The Roundhouse Foundation, BendFilm offers a local woman $5,000 to shoot her next film in Central Oregon. The film will premiere at the 2019 BendFilm Festival. Seven women applied for the grant, and Kaitlyn Hickman was chosen. Her project, Avel will focus on the 2002 Oregon law that finally removed racist language from the Oregon Constitution. Avel Gordly, the first African-American woman elected to the Oregon State Senate, led the fight. This film is her story. In 2015, Kaitlyn interned for The Representation Project, whose films, Miss Representation and The Mask You Live In revolutionized her thinking about gender inequality in media. In 2016, she received a grant to conduct archival research for a Holocaust-era documentary with one of her professors. In 2017, she produced, directed, and edited short films for Citizen-Powered Media, a small Colorado Springs nonprofit that aims to give a voice to local causes. Jill was Senior Vice President and Head of Finance & Operations of Fox Searchlight Pictures from 1996 to 2016. She was with Fox Searchlight from its inception and helped build the then-startup into a leading independent art house studio, where she oversaw all financial aspects of production, development, marketing, distribution, exhibitor relations, film festivals, and award campaigns. She worked on Best Picture Oscar-winner Birdman, 12 Years A Slave, and Slumdog Millionaire, as well as other favorites including Wild, The Descendants, Black Swan, Juno, Little Miss Sunshine, and Sideways. In all, the 161 films released under her purview earned $5.1 billion in worldwide box office.

The nonfiction filmmakers on this panel started production without knowing how their films would end. Writer/director Debra Granik and writer/producer Anne Rosellini are a powerful filmmaking team. Ondi Timoner has the rare distinction of winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival twice, once for her 2004 documentary Dig! (winner of BendFilm’s 2004 Best Directing award) and again for her 2009 prize-winner, We Live In Public. Other award-winning features include, Join Us (2007), Cool It (2010), and Brand (2015): A Second Coming. Current projects include WeTalk, her traveling talk show celebrating the women shaping our culture across arts, entrepreneurship, government, and technology; a feature-length documentary about the opioid epidemic through the eyes of an artist; and a nature series for Disney. Ondi is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the DGA, the PGA, the International Documentary Association, and Women in Film. The Institute provides a clear path for indigenous youth seeking film industry training and entry into the Media Arts. Their teachings are driven and guided by the traditions of indigenous storytelling. Written by Adam Beach Film Institute students and directed by Steven Payne, Rise Up (6 min.), Forever Young (6 min.), and Cyber Bullying (5 min.) will be presented by Adam Beach himself as a special introduction to this year’s Future Filmmakers program (see page 59).

Broke and desperate filmmaker Adolpho Rollo (Steve Buscemi) is a Manhattan wannabe in love with the mysterious woman next door, Angelica Peña (Jennifer Beals). He puts out an ad offering to sell his “fabulous” movie script for $500, and gets a response from Joe (Seymour Cassel), who gives him $1,000 and says he’ll raise the $250,000 to make the picture. The problem is, Joe is a semi-connected wise guy with a hemophiliac brother Skippy (Will Patton) and a habit of committing oddball crimes. Adolpho has signed on for a wild ride with a guy who shows up in the middle of the night and drags him into risky criminal activity. But Joe’s also a sweetheart who terrorizes Adolpho’s thug landlords into submission and goes to see Adolpho’s mother in the middle of the night to make her feel happy. Best of all, Angelica comes into the picture, thanks mostly to Joe’s wild party personality. Adolpho should be happy, but his life has become totally unglued, and his movie dreams seem farther away than ever. Paul Newman made his directorial debut with the sweeping saga Sometimes a Great Notion, based on Ken Kesey’s bestselling novel (his follow-up to One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest). The story focuses on a fiercely independent Oregon family of loggers who buck their close-knit timber community to deliver a shipment of logs in defiance of a strike. In the process, one man is killed, the family patriarch is injured, and the eldest son Hank almost loses his wife to his half-brother. Filled with complex characters and issues that still resonate today, Sometimes a Great Notion is an intense and riveting portrait of life set against the rugged backdrop of logging. BendFilm loves to celebrate Oregon on the big screen, and this is a perfect Oregon film, based on the novel many critics consider Ken Kesey’s magnum opus. Starring Paul Newman, Henry Fonda, Lee Remick, Michael Sarrazin, the film received Oscar nominations for Best Original Song and Best Supporting Actor Richard Jaeckel.

Graham Zimmerman is not only a world-class alpinist, but also a partner at Bedrock Film Works, a Bend-based production company specializing in capturing the experience in wild places. Through a partnership with REI and Google Daydream, Graham has recently directed a series of VR short films titled The Moment, which focus on following outdoor athletes through their moments of personal commitment in extreme sports. Also experience Tracy Rector’s point-of-view documentary Ch’aak S’aagi (page 52) in full VR, which takes indigenous storytelling in a stunning new direction. That’s the idea director Jesse Locke had for Mrs. Ingram, a choose-your-own-adventure film created in a partnership with AMZ Productions and Neurolytics Media. This is the worldwide premiere of the film where the audience will choose the path of protagonist Mrs. Ingram. Each decision, decided through an app, impacts the story of the main character. The program was founded by Michelle Alvarado of Wahoo films and has grown to become a popular part of the festival each year. The program is open to Central Oregon students grades 5-12, who submit short films to receive constructive feedback from the Future Filmmakers Jury, which includes BendFilm Festival filmmakers and other special guests. The Jury awards the grand prize of $100 and the audience also votes for a $100 prize-winner. This year, actor Adam Beach (Suicide Squad, Windtalkers) will kick off the Future Filmmakers program with a special presentation of three short films by students from the Adam Beach Film Institute in Winnipeg, Manitoba (see page 25 for more). We are honored that Lisa Carton of Central Oregon Daily News will be the emcee for the 2018 Future Filmmakers Program during the Festival.

CALDERA + BENDFILM RESIDENCY Since 2016, Caldera has collaborated with BendFilm to support a filmmaker-in-residence. This artist spends three and a half weeks at the Caldera Arts Center near Sisters developing their next project. During the residency, the filmmaker will present their work at Caldera’s Open Studios and at a BendFilm-sponsored special engagement. The 2018 winning applicant is Alisa Yang (alisayang.com) who will be in residence from March 1-25. Keep an eye out for announcements about Open Studios and Alisa’s BendFilm screening in Bend.
More about the program Caldera’s Artist in Residence program offers the gift of time and space on the eastern slopes of Oregon’s Cascade Range. Month-long stays offer private accomodations, 24-hour access to studios and a weekly meal. By design, residents form a small community of seven to 12 artists, depending on the group. Community outreach and collaborations are encouraged. Caldera is a catalyst for the transformation of underserved youth through innovative, year-round art and environmental programs. Check back in spring 2019 for the 2020 application deadline.

72-HOUR FILMMAKER SCRAMBLE
BendFilm’s presence extends beyond the four-day festival in October, and it extends beyond Bend. Throughout the year, BendFilm also screens independent films in partnerships with other nonprofits and community organizations to expand BendFilm’s mission to use the unique power of film to unite the community and inspire action. Ellen Shelton Each month, BendFilm Year-Round Programmer Ellen Shelton selects films that will most impact the community. If you missed out on a screening of a popular film at the 2018 BendFilm Festival, check back on our website throughout the year for special encore presentations of the audience favorites. Films are presented at local theaters. In addition, BendFilm partners with local organizations to screen independent films that are central to their missions, building community through film. Early this year, BendFilm partnered with Cascade Culinary Institute for the first time to fuse food and film. For a first course, students and chef/professors at the Culinary Institute served James Beard-inspired hors d’oeuvres at Elevation Restaurant on the Central Oregon Community College campus. The main course was a screening that evening at McMenamins of James Beard: America’s First Foodie, by Portland producer/director Beth Federici, who introduced and took questions, along with CCI Chef Instructor Thor Erickson. Another highlight was Dirtbag: The Legend of Fred Beckey, which played for a packed Tower Theatre of climbing enthusiasts. Local filmmaker Jeff Wegner and climbing legend Alex Bertulis entertained the crowd with tales of Fred’s infamous exploits. Look for new BendFilm events happening throughout Central Oregon this year. In November and December, Tin Pan Theater will be screening a series of classic films curated by Ellen Shelton. The films will be a Quartet of Classics from Janus Films. The luscious and heartwarming Danish film Babette’s Feast, from 1987, will begin the series and set the tone for the holiday season. Check bendfilm.org for dates, times, and details about the films.
BendFilm partnered with ScaleHouse for the fourth annual 72-Hour Filmmaker Scramble this summer. The event challenged filmmakers of any age or skill level to create original short films in just 72 hours based on the surprise theme of “Love is the Answer.” The films were screened on August 6, 2018 at a mini film festival and filmmakers competed for a chance to screen their original film at this year’s BendFilm Festival. The Jury Award went to Hans Skjersaa and J.P. Schlick for S&M Love Company, which is screening in the Late Night Shorts program (page 51) and the Audience Award went to Max Reisfar for How Can You Stand It.

This group of creative and entrepreneurial women, originally created by Pamela Hulse Andrews, has supported BendFilm since 2012. These women fund several cash awards presented to filmmakers at the Awards Ceremony as well as festival operations costs.
In 2014, Ben Perle, Regional Vice President of Operations at Oxford Hotels, was so inspired by Pamela Hulse Andrews efforts for Independent Women for Independent Film that he developed Business for BendFilm to strengthen the relationship between BendFilm and local businesses. In 2016, Rebecca Charlton of Cowgirl Cash joined Ben to engage more businesses in supporting BendFilm. We urge you to patronize these establishments that support a thriving arts scene in Bend.
