This practice of daily rhythm, can make a profound difference to your health
SET YOURSELF UP TO GET A GOOD NIGHT OF SLEEP. The foundation for a good day starts the night before. An early, light dinner improves sleep quality. Science shows deep sleep is difficult with a full stomach. Try to be in bed by 10pm before late night snack cravings kick in.
WAKE UP EARLY. Before 6am to give yourself time to be still and quiet. Wake up 5 minutes earlier to start your day with quiet intention, prayer, meditation, take a walk or think about something you are grateful for. There are apps such as 10% happier and Insight Timer.
TONGUE SCRAPE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. Overnight, ama gathers on your tongue, a coating of white or yellow residue. Gently scrape your tongue from the back forward for 7 strokes.
START THE DAY DRINKING WARM WATER. ..and give yourself time to have a full bowel movement before rushing off! Overnight, we become dehydrated. Drinking water washes the GI tract, flushes kidneys, and stimulates peristalsis.
EAT WHEN YOUR DIGESTIVE FIRE IS ITS STRONGEST. Ayurveda encourages us to eat our largest meal in the middle of the day when our digestion is strongest. Opt for seasonal, high-nutrient foods.
DRY BRUSH OR MASSAGE YOUR BODY EVERY DAY. Before you get dressed in the morning, rub your hands or a dry brush over your body. Lightly towel off after you shower, keep moisture on your skin, use warm sesame oil.
ENJOY AN ACTIVITY GETS YOUR BLOOD PUMPING! Find a way to be in your body, get your heart rate up and take in more breath this will enable better concentration, creativity and drive. I like to teach about the principle of Kaizen which basically means regular small incremental changes will add up over time.
