CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHT UP KICKS OFF SUMMER IN THE PARKS PROGRAM The City of Greater Bendigo’s annual Summer in the Parks program will begin with the lighting of the Christmas tree in Rosalind Park on Friday December 3. The City and Fosterville Goldmine presents the 2021/2022 Summer in the Parks program featuring a popular range of entertaining free events during December, January and February. Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said the lighting of the Christmas tree in the Piazza in Rosalind Park was an exciting countdown to Christmas and the start of the hugely popular Summer in the Parks program. “The traditional lighting of the tree marks the start of the festive season,” Cr Metcalf said. “The tree will be lit at approximately 8.45pm and there will be entertainment for children beforehand starting from 6.30pm onwards, including roving Christmas characters, entertainers from Connected Circus, music and Christmas carols with singer Ryan Gay. “Unfortunately, closer to Christmas the traditional Christmas Carols in the region organised and run by community groups are not able to take place this year. This is due to the difficulties in meeting health requirements set by State Government to keep community events COVID-safe, including the capability to check vaccination status of all those attending the events and to secure an area. “After a challenging time for our community due to the pandemic, I am delighted to announce the community will also be able to celebrate New Year’s Eve with our traditional fireworks. “For the first time the event will take place at the Queen Elizabeth Oval with spectacular Continues

Following recent announcements by the Victorian Government and changes to event restrictions, this event will be open to anyone who would like to attend and patrons will not need to be vaccinated. Over the next two years, major private and public investment in the heart of Bendigo’s city centre will deliver the latest chapter in the life of the Mall. Changes will start with the installation of a big screen in February 2022, followed by construction of the new ACCOR Mantra Hotel and new shade shelter and landscaping, including a row of new palm trees. Construction is expected to start in the first half of 2022 on the hotel development, to be built on the former Thomas Jewellers and Bendigo Community Pharmacy sites. It will deliver a 4.5-star, 110room, six-storey hotel with exciting new café, restaurant and function facilities that will be open to the public. The project has meant the City will delay construction of the planned shade shelter and landscaping works until 2023, when hotel building works are expected to be largely internal. The aim is to have the hotel, shade structure and landscaping works finish at the same time. In February, using money saved from not running events during COVID-19, the City will install the big screen on the Mitchell-street
end lantern and broadcast movies, music videos, concerts, live sport and community messaging. The screen also has a camera that can be turned on so people in the Mall can interact with it. City Director Presentation and Assets Brian Westley said these projects represented the future of the Mall. “Over the next few years there will be some big changes in the Mall, which will help to further activate the area and make it a more exciting and inviting space to stay, dine, shop, hold events or open a new business,” Mr Westley said. “Just like shopping centres that are updated every seven to 10 years, outdoor public spaces and shopping areas that fulfil a similar purpose also need to be invested in. The last Mall redevelopment was in 2010, so it is nearly 12 years old in its current form. “The Mall is a popular space to hold community events and it is also a busy place. There are a number of small businesses in the Mall and in the wider precinct, including Killians Walk, that do a great trade. “The Mall is a big space to fill, so won’t always appear full all the time, and like in
many regional areas there are some empty shops but Council has no control over these. It is up to the landlords that own the shops to set affordable rents and lease them out. “The 2018 Transforming the City Centre Action Plan found the community wanted to see more colour, shade and softness in the Mall. The City has listened to this feedback and that is what the screen, shade shelter and landscaping intend to deliver. “Other city centre improvements achieved to date include new toilets in the Hargreaves Street multi-storey car park, temporary pop up park (which will make way for the shade structure and permanent landscaping), delivery vehicles now park outside the Mall to make it safer for pedestrians and the lanterns have been re-purposed into successful micro-tenancies to support small businesses. “It’s also important to remember our broader city centre is changing. The Bendigo TAFE redevelopment is complete and Galkangu (Bendigo GovHub) and the new Law Courts developments are underway. These projects represent an investment of more than $300M
From $189
in central Bendigo and will bring more people into the city centre to learn, work and do business. “There will be short term challenges, particularly as the hotel is a major project and there will be disruptions associated with this. However, the City will work with the hotel developer to reduce disruption as much as possible while the Mall is changing and we prepare to welcome this next chapter for our city centre.” The City is currently using internal resources to redesign the shade structure, which is a key initiative of the Transforming the City Centre Action Plan. Earlier this year the City announced it would build a wooden shade structure and had allocated $500,000 for the project. However, the construction tenders received were considerably over this amount due to the significant increase in the cost of materials during COVID-19. Gunbower State Forest infected with noxious weeds
Lovell again calls for proper management of Paterson’s curse in Gunbower State Forest. The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has renewed calls for the Andrews Labor Government to properly manage the noxious Paterson’s curse weed in the Gunbower State Forest and National Park. Ms Lovell raised the problem with the Andrews Labor Government in November last year, calling on Environment Minister Lily D’Ambrosio to ensure proper management of the weed was undertaken by DELWP officers. In her latest contribution in State Parliament this week, Ms Lovell said that feedback she had received indicated Paterson’s curse was even more prevalent throughout the Gunbower State Forest and National Park this year, indicating the action taken 12 months ago had been inadequate. Ms Lovell reiterated the importance of adequate management of the Paterson’s curse weedin Gunbower and again sought an undertaking from
Owned & operated by 6 generations of e Mulquun family. Specializing in pre-paid & pre-arranged funerals.
Ms D’Ambrosio that she will ensure effective action is taken this year to properly anage the weed in the Gunbower State Forest and National Park. “I raised the issue of the prevalence of Paterson’s curse in the Gunbower State Forest and National Park twelve months ago and the Minister promised that appropriate action to manage the weed would be taken. “Clearly this work has not been done because the weed is back and more widespread than ever before. “It is the responsibility of the Andrews Labor Government to ensure the management and removal of Paterson’s curse in our state forests and national parks and I urge the Minister to take immediate action to ensure the weed is eradicated from the Gunbower State Forest and National Park.” Authorised by Wendy Lovell MP, 222 Wyndham Street Shepparton. Recent Book Twilight Market is back at the Prince Launch in Bendigo of Wales Showgrounds 15th
Pictured: Louise Zedda-Sampson author Bowl the Maidens Over
Louise Zedda-Sampson is a Melbourne-based writer, researcher and awardnominated editor. Her debut non-fiction book, Bowl the Maidens Over: Our First Women Cricketers accounts the first games of women’s cricket which began in Bendigo. The first match was played in Rosalind Park
when it was called Camp Reserve in 1874. John Rae, a Bendigo schoolmaster, approached the Sandhurst Easter Fair Committee with an idea to draw the crowds: a novelty ladies’ cricket match – something Australia had never seen before. This began the story of women’s cricket in Australia. Bowl the Maidens Over presents the factual account of the very first women’s matches from the selection of uniforms, mentoring by the prestigious Bendigo United Cricket Club, to their ceremonial arrival at the Easter Fair and post-match critiques. The story provides insights into the tumultuous road the women cricketers travelled, just in order to play. The Red Dynasty, an exhibition of new artworks by Angela Morrissey Art exhibition The Red Dynasty explores the current system of government in the People’s Republic of China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. In particular, it explores the role of women in these countries as depicted in paintings inspired by photos of military parades and Communist propaganda that I grew up with when I read books on these countries as a child. The key piece on display is “Chinese Mother and Child” inspired by an old Communist China
propaganda poster encouraging parents to have one-child families and to welcome girls as much as boys. Now China is trying to encourage families with three children. Because many girl babies were terminated before birth ten million Chinese men will never find their soul mate! To understand modern day China and North Korea you have to see them as a 16th century dynasty ruled by an emperor. For a mere mortal in China simply looking at the emperor in the eye was punishable by death. Now,
instead of an emperor ruling with absolute power the system has been replaced with a dictator. Imperialism has been replaced with Communism and Confucianism with Marxism. The Cultural Revolution in China banned concubines, which was part of the feudal system. But mistresses still exist. Young women exchange their bodies for a lavish apartment, gifts and money from wealthy men. Nothing has changed. In 1955 Chairman Mao Tsetung wrote, “Enable every
woman who can work to take her place on the labour front, under the principle of equal pay for equal work. This should be done as quickly as possible.” Yet, in China, the percentage of nonagricultural wages for women as a percentage of men’s non-agricultural wages is just over 50%. Paintings of female soldiers poses the question: Do they really believe in what they are marching for or are they simply going through the motions? Do any of us believe in anything anymore or are we all simply disillusioned? Just look at the state of things here in our democratic society: many young people submit a donkey vote at election time or simply don’t bother turning up to vote at all. We should be lucky for everything we have in this country and make the most of our freedoms. The Red Dynasty, an exhibition of new artworks by Angela Morrissey is on from 14 December 2021 – 10 January 2022 at Exhibit B in the Bendigo Bank Central building (Formerly Fountain Court). Access is via Bath Lane, Mitchell Street or Laity Lane. Exhibit B is supported by the City of Greater Bendigo and Adelaide Bank.

Walsh says erratic independents allow Labor’s new tax to plunder regional Victoria The Nationals leader and Member for Murray Plains, Peter Walsh, says Victoria’s erratic independent MPs have joined with the Andrews Labor government to pass a new housing tax that has the potential to wreck home ownership across the state simply to feed “this government’s tax addiction”. Mr Walsh, who is also Shadow Minister for Regional Victoria, said the new tax will “drastically push up the price of new homes”. He said the windfall gains tax (WGT) passed State Parliament last week, despite strong opposition from Liberal and National MPs after experts predicted it will add tens of thousands of dollars to the price of a new home in regional Victoria. “Rural landholders will be hit even harder; Daniel Andrews has made sure they will be slugged a 50 per cent tax on sales uplifts of $500,000 or more on any land rezoned from farming to rural residential, residential or commercial,” Mr Walsh explained. “There’s no other way to see this except for what it is – a cash grab to try and bolster the massive debt Andrews and his government are building on bungled infrastructure projects in
Melbourne,” he said. “This is classic Labor – spend money you haven’t got and then turn your eyes towards regional Victoria to pay the real price and in this instance this new tax has dealt a devastating blow to the future of the next generation of Victorians trying to own or build their first home. “This tax will be passed on to the people who can least afford it – young Victorians and Victorian families who have spent their life carefully saving to build or buy their own home. “The squeeze on land availability in many regional hubs has already created long delays for vacant blocks, while rental vacancies are at all-time lows and rents have soared to alltime highs,” he added. Mr Walsh said this is the “worst possible time” for the Labor Government to be making it harder and more expensive for people to get into the housing market. And he’s not the only one pointing out what Daniel Andrews doesn’t care about – and what the independents weren’t smart enough to think about. Urban Development Institute of Australia chief executive Matthew Kandelaars has told media
the tax increase will “drastically” push up house prices; and see nearly half a monthly mortgage payment go to paying off the “Government’s tax addiction”. The Opposition attempted to pass amendments to the Bill; that would have reduced the tax rate and forced the government to redirect revenue generated in regional Victoria back into the local government area from where it was collected. But Mr Walsh said the support of independent MPs in the Parliament blocked the amendments; which would have eased the levy on rural and regional Victorians. “The experts are saying Labor’s tax will cost regional Victoria at least 2700 new homes, 9500 direct jobs and more than $2.7 billion in lost economic output,” Mr Walsh said. “Regional councils have condemned the tax as a handbrake on development that will further compound the housing supply shortage. “Instead of new taxes, the Government should be adopting The Nationals’ plan to fast-track 50,000 new regional lots to market by boosting skills resources at rural councils and untangling the ministerial approvals process.”

unprecedented authority to act like a dictator—and still the Prime Minister has done nothing to stop this discrimination. These vaccines were rushed. Their long-term effects are unknown. The Therapeutic Goods Administration has recorded more than 77,000 adverse reactions to the vaccines, including more than 600 deaths. We are part of a grand experiment. Australia is now a continental petri dish, and those Australians who exercise their right to refuse this experimentation on their bodies face a bleak future as second-class citizens. What isn’t experimental and what has been shown to be highly effective in treating COVID-19 is a medication called ivermectin. It’s been in use for more than 40 years, during which time 3½ billion doses have been administered by doctors with no ill effects. Last year when data emerged on its effectiveness against COVID-19 and Australian doctors screamed for permission to use ivermectin to treat patients, the authorities just banned it—and still the Prime Minister did nothing. No; all the Prime Minister has done is let state governments get away with a grab for power, leaving his national road map and his authority in tatters. The cost to our economy has been staggering, but it is the
cost to our democracy and our freedom which is even more concerning. One Nation will not stand by and witness the demise of Australian democracy and freedom without a fight. We don’t do this lightly. We do it with sincere regret that such legislation is even necessary. But make no mistake: it is not only necessary but absolutely vital that Australians’ right to choose is protected from the vaccine discrimination running rampant across this country. You might not agree with the choices that the Australian people make, but that doesn’t mean the right to choose should be stolen from them. Senators here are on notice. If you don’t support my legislation then you don’t support Australian democracy and freedom and you don’t support the right to choose. If you don’t support my legislation, you are saying to Australians that their rights will be protected only so long as they do not conflict with the state. Australia is a democracy. It’s one of the most successful in the world. We are not here to wield power against the Australian people. We are here to wield the power of the Australian people. This was followed in the afternoon with a picnic luncheon in Rosalind Park with guest speaker Tim Quilty MP. COGB Councillor Vaughan Williams was also in attendance to hear what if elected the Liberal Democrats had planned for regional Victoria.
Hansons speech to the Australian Senate Vaccine Mandates Once again I rise in this chamber, with a heavy heart, to bear witness to the demise of Australian democracy and freedom. Once again I am forced to remind this chamber of the most essential foundation for a successful, free democracy: the right to choose. Once again I am moved to lament the theft of this most fundamental human right from the Australian people by the very representatives who are charged with protecting it. And once again I am obliged to call out rogue premiers for authoritarian overreach and to call on the Prime Minister to show some leadership and reign them in. Last week the Prime Minister said he didn’t support vaccination mandates enforced by governments. He said state governments should ‘step back’ and let Australians ‘take their lives back’. Australians have had a ‘gutful’, he said, and he’s right—not that Steven Miles gives him any credit. This frightened little
schoolboy masquerading as Queensland’s Deputy Premier is so completely out of his depth that he panics whenever someone threatens Labor’s complete command and control of Queensland’s captive population. The Prime Minister said people in Brisbane should be able to go and get a cup of coffee regardless of whether they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19, but people in Brisbane can’t get a cup of coffee if they haven’t been vaccinated. People who call Brisbane home will not be permitted to return there from interstate next month if they haven’t been vaccinated. Hospitality businesses in Brisbane will be banned from opening if they don’t enforce mandates against customers who haven’t been vaccinated. Many people in Brisbane, including those in critical positions in health, education, freight and law enforcement, have lost their jobs because they
Limbrick sets sights on Canberra for Liberal Democrats Member for South Eastern Metropolitan, David Limbrick has announced he will contest the upcoming federal election as the Liberal Democrats number one Senate candidate in Victoria. News rights. It is in this spirit that One Nation has introduced the COVID-19 Vaccination Status (Prevention of Discrimination) Bill 2021. This legislation is urgently needed to arrest and reverse the pandemic of discrimination which has been unleashed on the Australian people. I ’d like to relay the words of a doctor, an expert in immunology, who has taken the risk of speaking to me about his concerns about the COVID-19 vaccines: ‘I am angry and frustrated at coercive vaccine mandates healthcare workers now face. After two years of sacrificing everything we have to care for COVID patients at risk to ourselves and our families, we are now being stood down across the country for simply asking to have a choice in our health, a topic we alone are experts in. A recent Lancet study shows that vaccination alone is not sufficient to prevent the transmission of the delta variant. This means that both vaccinated and unvaccinated are as contagious as each other. There’s no evidence proving that unvaccinated healthcare workers pose an additional risk. Many of my colleagues are alarmed at the failure of Australia’s COVID response to deal with the critical issues of informed consent and COVID prevention. We are further alarmed at the censorship of early treatment options.
These failures cause direct patient harm, leading to further vaccine hesitancy and forcing doctors to break their Hippocratic oath.’ This is nothing but a political stunt because we’re coming into a federal election. Look at the three states: the premiers are all Labor. This is what Labor is doing to actually undermine the Morrison government, so they are seen as weak. And I will say that the Prime Minister is weak because he said there should not be vaccine mandates—well, then do something about it. I’m also saying that, if the Prime Minister is not happy with my bill, then change it. You have the SolicitorGeneral and you have means to do it, to make changes that will give the people back their rights and their freedoms in this nation. Why do you think so many people have protested on the streets of this nation? A lot of these people are not ratbags; they’re not idiots. The media and the premiers are trying to say that they are extremists. They’re not extremists, they’re everyday Australians. They could be your mother, your sister, your father, your cousins, your neighbours. You know they’re not extremists. These are people that have had a gutful—they’ve had enough—and I can’t blame them because so have I. And I thank from the bottom of my heart my colleague

of medical treatment and not be exposed to a medical apartheid system as is currently the norm. Remember the COVID-19 Omnibus (Emergency amended Measures) Act 2020. The original draft included: A provision which would have allowed authorised officers to detain people on the basis of suspicion; the thought police. Other parts of the Act would have allowed anyone to be appointed as authorised officers was also removed. In an interview with ABC at the time lawyer Michael Borsky QC said allowing someone to be detained

Malcolm Roberts for standing strong with me on this. I know, because the Prime Minister has told me, that they don’t intend to support this bill, and neither does the Labor Party. How weak and gutless they are, and so are the Greens. The fact is that the Labor Party are supposed to be there for the workers. They say that they’re standing up for the blue-collar workers. These are the police, the nurses, the ambulance drivers that are your voters and they’re screaming out, ‘Help us.’ That’s why we’ve got 7,000 nurses in Queensland, 7,000
Melbourne Protest Marches Ever wondered what those protesters in Melbourne are really about, that’s right those extremists as Daniel Andrews would have you believe, tens of thousands of mums and dads from all walks of life giving up their Saturday to descend on the streets and parliament. We visited Melbourne and attended the rally to confront these anti- vaxxers ourselves. Surprise, surprise, a large number we spoke to were vaxxed, their main concern being that civil liberties were slowly being eroded by the Government and that everyone should have the right to decide for themselves their own course

based on what they might do in the future was a “very unusual legal construct”. “There’s the risk it’s open to abuse, there’s potential for it to play into a concerning trend of citizens in Victoria being turned on each other,” he said. Now the Andrews Government in another bid has come up with Victorias Pandemic Bill, in some peoples view a re-worked Omnibus Act. The Bill currently permits a pandemic order to apply differently to people with various attributes protected under the Victorian Equal Opportunity Act, such as age and pre-existing medical
nurses in South Australia and nurses right across the country who are refusing to have this vaccination. Why? They are not anti-vaxxers. Remember that under the states’ standards for their profession, previously they’ve had to have all the other vaccinations. Why are they hesitant about this one? I’ll tell you why: it’s because they’ve seen the adverse side effects in people now coming into hospital that have had the vaccinations. That’s why they don’t want it. They’re not anti-vaxxers, but they know that they want to have good health for the rest of their lives, and there’s no-one conditions. The government has noted this could also include how an order applies to vaccinated versus unvaccinated people. Such a differentiation may be supported if it relates to a person’s health profile. However, the attributes in the Equal Opportunity Act also include race and political and religious beliefs (among many others). This means the bill has a wider remit than just a person’s health profile. Why does the government feel the need to introduce such laws, in this papers view it is incumbent upon any democratic government to protect it’s citizens rights and not seek to reduce them. Over sixty QC’s, The Ombudsman, BAR Assoc and others have voiced their concerns regards the proposed Bill – are they extremists in the Premiers eyes, I wonder?
that can guarantee that. Noone in the world can guarantee it because we don’t know the long-term effects of having COVID-19. Australians are not against getting vaccinated. You have Petrovsky in South Australia. He’s inventing a vaccine that’s protein based. Why aren’t we taking it up? Why is the TGA slamming doors in his face? Why are we supporting Pfizer and AstraZeneca, which are making billions of dollars out of this? No, I don’t believe that this is right and I wish the Prime Minister would stand up with the people and be the leader of this
nation, because that’s what they want. For those members of parliament who are going to cross the floor and support this bill today, I say thank you and so do the Australian people. But I intend to show up the rest of you who are too bloody gutless to stand up for the rights of the people of Australia. I hope they have their say at the next election and throw you out on your ear. This is about the people’s rights and their freedoms, and I will fight to the death for them for that reason. I thank the doctor for his words as well.

There is no denying that democratic nations around the world — including Australia — have become more authoritarian due to COVID-19, a worrying trend that must be broken. Playing out against the backdrop of the sinister Great Reset, many democracies have turned to “disproportionate, unnecessary, or illegal” ways to curb the virus. George Christensen MP
That’s according to a new report from the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, an international nonprofit based in Sweden. The report provides a thorough probe into the worrying trend of democratic decay — a trend that has been exacerbated by COVID-19, although its roots go deeper. The key take-out from the report is the following statement: In the context of the pandemic, many democratic governments have adopted questionable restrictions to fundamental freedoms that, in many cases, mimic the practices of authoritarian regimes. It was this truth that prompted me to deliver another speech to the Australian parliament this week that was predictably condemned by those who have no eyes to see how the current infringement on our freedoms and medical segregation are can be stepping stones on the path to to totalitarianism: Getting back to the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IIDEA); they found that throughout 2020, several democracies worldwide had taken aggressive and authoritarian steps to combat COVID-19, making
the response to the virus a huge contributing factor to a major decline in democratic values around the world. The IIDEA states: The world is becoming more authoritarian as nondemocratic regimes become even more brazen in their repression and many democratic governments suffer from backsliding by adopting their tactics of restricting free speech and weakening the rule of law, exacerbated by what threatens to become a ‘new normal’ of Covid-19 restrictions. Countries en route to becoming “more authoritarian” tripled compared to those moving towards democracy, according to the report. This year is the fifth consecutive year of this worrying — touted as the deepest uninterrupted range of pro-authoritarian developments since the global nonprofit began tracking these metrics in 1975. Democratic countries, undoubtedly including Australia, have implemented pandemic protocols “that were disproportionate, illegal, indefinite or unconnected to the nature of the emergency,” according to the IIDEA report. Among those protocols were travel bans and the utilisation of “emergency powers that sometimes sidelined parliaments.” Law professor Dr Christiaan Alting von Geusau, writing
for the Brownstone Institute for Social and Economic Research, laid out a long list of such anti-democratic protocols: Endless lockdowns, police-enforced quarantines, travel restrictions, vaccine mandates, the suppression of scientific data and debate, large-scale censorship, and the relentless deplatforming and public shaming of critical voices are all examples of dehumanizing measures that should have no place in a system of democracy and the rule of law. We also see the process of increasingly relegating a certain part of the population to the peripheries whilst singling them out as irresponsible and undesired because of the “risk” they pose to others, leading to society gradually excluding them. You could be forgiven for thinking he was specifically talking about Australia, particularly in relation to singling out a certain ‘undesirable’ part of the population. Because while state governments keep ratcheting up restrictions on public interactions and economic behaviour, even for individuals who have already taken the provisionallyapproved vaccines, the most serious incursions on liberty in Australia are now being targeted towards one particular demographic: those who aren’t vaccinated. From the media
opining that they aren’t “decent members of society” through to government segregating them from polite society, there is no question that the people in this country who have chosen not to undertake a particular medical procedure, are under sustained attack. Non-vaccinated Australians are being portrayed as ‘the other’. One state premier pushed out a tweet insinuating that non-vaccinated Australians were a danger and should be avoided. Yet another state premier — the dictatorial Daniel Andrews — has made vaccinations mandatory this week for accommodation workers, agriculture and forestry workers, airport workers, ancillary, support and welfare workers, authorised officers, care workers, community workers, creative arts workers, custodial workers, emergency service workers, entertainment and function workers, funeral workers, higher education workers, justice service centre workers, marriage celebrants, manufacturing workers, meat and seafood processing workers, media and film production workers, mining workers, physical recreation workers, ports and freight workers, professional sports, high-performance sports or racing professionals, professional services workers, public sector employees, real estate workers, religious workers, repair and maintenance workers, retail workers (including workers at food and drink facilities, and licensed premises), science and technology workers, social and community service workers, transport workers, utilities and urban workers, veterinary and pet/ animal care workers. The reality is you are practically excluded from the workforce in Victoria if you are not vaccinated. Dr Alting von Geusau outlines a checklist of the five stages of dehumanisation of ‘the other’, seen primarily in totalitarian states. Those five stages are: The creation and political instrumentalization of fear. Soft exclusion. Documented justification of the exclusion. Hard exclusion. And finally, extermination, social or physical. We are up to stage 4.
The Personnel Group staff dig deep for lifesaving Kalianna donation
Pictured: The Personnel Group’s Bendigo client attraction officer Emma Pay, The Personnel Group Bendigo area manager Kylie Skilbeck, Kalianna School Year 12 student Taryn Ison and Kalianna School teacher Rob Brown.
Kalianna School says a new life-saving defibrillator donated by The Personnel Group will provide extra peace of mind for staff and be accessible to community groups and after hours care programs. Ambulance Victoria will add the new Kalianna defibrillator to its registry of more than 6500 public defibrillators (AEDs) across the state. The donation was possible after fundraising by The Personnel Group staff. “The Personnel Group has an active Health and Wellbeing program that focuses on mental and physical health and also community participation,” The Personnel Group chief executive officer Tracey Fraser said. “We also wanted to incorporate a community aspect, as during lockdowns we were not able to participate in our annual community volunteering day. “So we ran a defibrillator competition, a fundraising challenge where sites raised money in a variety of ways to be able to purchase defibrillator machines for the community. “Across our organisation staff raised close to $6000 and this enabled us to donate three defibrillator machines within the community, which were chosen by our sites that raised the most money; Bendigo, Wodonga and Canberra.” The defibrillator was presented to Kalianna principal Peter Bush by The
Personnel Group’s Bendigo area manager Kylie Skilbeck today. “We are very grateful to The Personnel Group for their donation as having access to a defibrillator improves the safety of our school community and the wider community who have access to our facilities,” Mr Bush said. The defibrillator will be located in a central area, reachable for all learning centres. It will also be accessible for after school care and community groups. “Minutes matter in a cardiac arrest and this defibrillator could better someone’s chances of survival,” Mr Bush said. “I hope the defibrillator will never have to be used but having it available means so much to everyone at the school because it means we will be better equipped in the case of an emergency.” Ambulance Victoria will also provide a defibrillator demonstration and Call Push Shock presentation for the school community. “Kalianna School has been providing specialist education in the Bendigo region for more than 50 years and The Personnel Group wanted to acknowledge that in a meaningful, practical way,” The Personnel Group’s Bendigo area manager Kylie Skilbeck said. “Kalianna’s vision to ensure its students are active and productive members of society is something that definitely resonates with The Personnel Group.” Defibrillators are used to restore a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart when someone suffers a sudden cardiac arrest.

Shell was the first major oil company to feature the Lion on its Fitzroy decal in 1962cc.
This extremely rare Fitzroy decal first featuring a Lion was issued in 1960cc by an unknown company. Cartof Hulzy Correspondent In the 1960s I would ride my bike to the local BP petrol Station at the bottom of Ellis Street Flora Hill to see if I could scrounge another sticker from the owner. Decals or transfers featuring VFL football clubs were given away with petrol sales. We would pin the decals on the wall or stick them on our bedroom window. If we were fortunate enough to own a family car, a BP “I Like Collingwood” decal would be fixed to the back windscreen. Our territory

In the early years, Fitzroy Lions, later known as the Brisbane Lions had been nick-named the Maroons for a number of years. The club wanted a more aggressive mascot and decided, on the suggestion of a certain Dr. Cec Raphael, to adopt a new moniker, that of ‘The Gorillas’ in 1939. The earliest Fitzroy decal featured a Gorilla mascot, not a lion,
