Vive La France! Vive La Milford – Saturday February 27th!
Hello to all our Milford customers. Wow! Wasn’t it great to get away for a break from life as it had been in 2020 and enjoy the Christmas/New Year with family and friends?
Milford businesses are back to full steam after having varied breaks and are looking forward to serving you as you ‘shop local’ this year. We have a number of new businesses that will open in the first quarter of 2021. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page ‘milfordshops’ for details when they announce their opening.
Our next major event is the wonderful Vive La France, which we hold on Saturday 27th February from 10am to 3pm. We will have the main street closed for that period, as we have done for the past few events, and have a line-up of entertainment on stage thrughout the event.
Our normal array of entertainment includes JP the clown/ magician with his infamous ‘Snail Race’, face painters, kids' entertainment, entertainers on stage and of course, after its amazing success last year, the Pet & Vet Dog show. Entry details for this will be on our Facebook page and at Pet & Vet in Shakespeare Road.
Peugeot/Citröen North Shore will have a line of new cars on display and nearby will be a petanque court for you to have a game with friends and family. It will be great fun!
Of course there will be bargains galore from our retailers, market day stalls and great food and beverages from our hospitality businesses. Details of this event will be updated regularly on our Facebook page (milfordshops) and website www.milfordshops.co.nz
Head of the Harbour Rowing Regatta – Saturday February 13th
For those of you who have followed the secondary school rowing over the years, the Head of the Harbour Rowing Regatta is on at Lake Pupuke on Saturday 13th February. This is organised by my old high school, Takapuna Grammar, which runs a great event. Get along, see the new talent coming to the fore, then pop in to Milford for some hospitality or retail therapy. We look forward to seeing you.

VILLAGE LOOKING GREAT
If you wonder why the gardens and plants around Milford Shops always look so good, we reckon we’ve found the answer. Michael Leach, known affectionately by locals as ‘Michael the Gardener” tends to all these items two days a week – and he loves it. Funding for his efforts comes from the Milford Business Association. The Channel Mag camera caught him hard at work on a Tuesday morning in late January. The accolades shouldn’t go to Michael alone though. Milford Rotary also play a fantastic job working with business association manager Murray Hill as well as other volunteers to constantly improve things in Milford. Their most recent effort was redoing the garden on corner of Fenwick Avenue. It looks fantastic, along with the freshly painted seating. We love your work team Milford!
ICE CREAM OF THE MONTH AT SCRUNCHY MILLERS
Looking for where to go for the best ice cream in February? We highly recommend the jaffa gelato at Scrunchy Millers in Milford. Our scoop had orange zest, a generous serving of chocolate chips and the cone was as fresh as they come, it was 10/10 to us. They also serve real fruit ice cream, a range of sorbets and Eighthirty coffee.
The annual Head of the Harbour secondary school rowing competition is being held on Lake Pupuke, from the Sylvan Park Avenue entrance near Milford, between 8am and 5pm on Saturday February 13th. Hundreds of competitors from schools from around the northern region all come to Lake Pupuke to compete in this prestigious annual rowing regatta.
PETER LOVES HIS E-BIKE
The Channel Mag camera snapped this photo of local Milford identity Peter Carter on his electric bike during January, having just returned on one of his regular trips to Devonport. The e-bike craze is catching on with our seasoned Milford folk, with business association manager Murray Hill being a recent convert.

NEW APARTMENTS ON THEIR WAY
Milford is known as a great place to live and the options are growing rapidly with two great apartment developments now under way in Milford. In late January Milford Centre owners NZRPG were rocketing ahead with the steelwork on their Omana North apartments being built on the mall site and construction was also under way on the Milford 110 apartments on the corner of Kitchener and Pierce Roads. The Omana North development offers 63 highly appointed apartments over nine levels. Visit: www. omananorth.co.nz There are five apartments on each of the first three levels of the Milford 110 development, all two-bedroom plus one flexi room. The sub penthouse level offers four spacious two-bedroom plus one flexi room apartments. Almost every apartment enjoys commanding views over the Hauraki Gulf and adjacent Milford village. Visit: www.milford110.co.nz At Channel Mag we love this sort of progress being made in our local town centres.
