Ware Priory
Ware Priory was a Franciscan Friary which was founded in 1339. When the monasteries were dissolved by Henry VIII it became a privately owned residence and over that time housed many war wounded soldiers from World War I. When Lady PageCroft passed away in 1920 she left the Priory to the people of Ware and it is now held in trust and managed by Ware Town Council.
Its Grade I status makes it a very special setting for weddings, celebrations and business events. There are many original features remaining including The Table of Ease, an original refectory table, views of the original wattle and daub building work, stained glass windows in the Priory Hall and flagstones in the reception area. The front lawns and driveway create a fantastic first impression. The views of the river are very special and river life of narrow boats, swans, geese and ducks is always on show. The bandstand area is a great space on the island opposite the main building. The back lawns are well kept and are a great location for drinks receptions and team building games. Over the past year, Ware Priory has redecorated the public interior areas with neutral colours on the walls, plush carpets and softer curtains to modernise the look. And has replaced all of the ladies and gentleman’s bathrooms which has made a real difference.
The main Ware Priory building has a lot of character and historical interest, whereas Fletcher’s Lea can offer a much more contemporary feel and really is a blank canvas for couples to put their own, unique stamp on their day. Offering a very personable service and the catering options are second to none.
Easily located and accessible, it is a great location to host milestone birthday and anniversary parties as well as proms, meetings, conferences and awards dinners. The team at Ware Priory, like everyone else, are hopeful for some return to normalcy in 2022 so that guests can hold the events that they wish to with confidence.
