You are all aware the makeup of the businesses in the borough has changed over time.

Looking inwards at what we are doing as a membership body. First thing, was to talk to the SMEs to see what they wanted from their borough chamber. It is with their wishes in mind we welcome several new members and partners.

Welcome to London Living Wage, Pem People, Southwark College, Distant Voices Group, Women In Money and Nila Panchmatia of HSE Direct (Business Funding).

After 100 years we need to be ready to represent all businesses in this modern era. With modernisation in mind, we look to build a forward thinking lean organisation with a diverse range of corporate partners who will be more than willing to share best practices with the smaller (SMEs) businesses of the borough.

Welcome to the Latino community businesses that are the life blood of the SMEs around Elephant & Castle and surrounding areas and to the large LGBT+ community in the borough and the vast array of LGBT+ businesses that have made London Borough Southwark their home. Working with Cllr John Batteson, Cabinet Member for Business & Jobs at Southwark Council we have put in place 'Links and Drinks' networking events along with 'Lunch and Learn' seminars.

There is still much to do, but I can assure you that we are determined to make things happen. It is with change in mind we are looking for talented people to join the executive of the Southwark Chamber of Commerce. Position collectors this is not a place for you.

We are looking for people with experience who are looking and willing to roll their sleeves up to help others. Working together with London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this will give the Southwark businesses a voice way beyond the Southwark Borders.

The committee I lead are excited that we achieve great things in our 100th year.

We can shape the Chamber for the future with your help. Information Advice and Guidance is our modus operandi. Get involved for the greater good of your business and the businesses of the London Borough of Southwark.

I hope you enjoy our fresh look magazine.
