Local people skill up for jobs in Canada Water
Fourteen jobseekers from Southwark completed a two-week employment support programme in March, based on the opportunities provided by the Canada Water development.
This initiative, a collaborative effort between Canada Water Connect – established by British Land in partnership with the charity ELBA – and The Launch Group, was designed to provide participants with industry insights and skills to advance their careers in construction and related fields. The programme provided participants with an indepth overview of the construction industry, alongside workshops designed to enhance vital skills for the workplace. Southwark Construction Skills Centre hosted many of the sessions, with topics covered in the workshops including mental resilience, conflict management, and equality and diversity. Additional sessions on CV presentation, job interview techniques, personal finance management, and pathways to selfemployment offered practical tools to help candidates secure the roles they want.
