verb and noun

How do you make a skeleton laugh?

When something is funny, you laugh. The sound of laughing is a laugh or laughter.

By tickling its funny bone.

Everybody laughed at my joke! I could hear Dad’s laugh from upstairs. The history of laugh might make you laugh! It goes way back to Old English times, and the funny spelling is very old too. But this spelling used to make sense, because the letters GH together used to have a sound kind of like when you try to get something out of your throat. And that’s how the word was said. Later, people started to say the word the way it’s said today. Some people even started to spell laugh as laffe, to match its sound. But most people didn’t change the spelling, so today, you just have to remember the way laugh is written.
