A MESSAGE FROM YOUR
CAPTAIN Dear Benjamin School Parents, There may not be a more appropriate theme for our annual BASH gala than this one: “Your Ship is Coming In!” Aside from living in South Florida where boating, fishing and cruising are essential to our culture, you have placed your children on a “ship” to success in many ways by choosing The Benjamin School. As we are all “in the same boat” this evening, which is preparing your children, our students, in the very best way for their future, let’s celebrate together your decision to travel this “journey” together. But before you become mesmerized by the pristine beaches and tranquil blue waters, as your captain for the evening, I must steer the conversation to the “rising tide” of accolades, accomplishments and honors Benjamin has received in the past year, and how BASH played a critical role in these successes. Our early college acceptances this year were extremely impressive, with students admitted to Ivy Leagues like Brown, Dartmouth, University of Pennsylvania and Yale, in addition to first-tier schools like Duke, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown and Notre Dame. As of this writing, 29 student-athletes were offered early letters of intent to some of the most competitive colleges or universities in the country, including a swimmer and two football players invited to attend and play their sport at Yale, Louisville and UVA, respectively. Lastly, our Upper School Visual Art Department blew the Scholastic Art Awards regional competition out of the water, “harpooning” an impressive 118 awards! The breadth of the Benjamin program, including our “best-of-fleet” curriculum, athletics and arts has never been stronger. All that is Benjamin is enhanced in great part by your presence at and gifts to BASH (Building A Scholastic Heritage). As you enjoy your evening and hopefully “reel in” a fabulous auction item, please know you are helping “chart the path” for your own children and so many others to come. In this way, your child’s Benjamin education will always “ride the wave” of high prestige locally and across the country. Finally, allow me to celebrate our creative and industrious “first mates,” volunteer parent organizers who “steered this ship to port!” BASH co-chairs Tammy & Josh Crossman and Donna & Jason Feldman “navigated” the way along with our Honorary Chairs Shannon & Scott Smith. Thank you for orchestrating this one-of-a-kind “cruise” for all of us this evening! Always grateful for everyone’s part in our students’ educational journey,
Robert S. Goldberg Head of School

WELCOME FROM THE CHAIRS
Dear Parents and Friends of The Benjamin School, Welcome and thank you for joining us this evening as we proudly present to you the 34th annual Benjamin School BASH Gala, “Your Ship Has Come In.” Get ready to embark on a sensational evening filled with live and silent auctions, fabulous food, intoxicating music and a whole lot of dancing! An event of this magnitude would not be possible without the time, talent and treasure of many individuals and businesses in and around our community. We wholeheartedly would like to thank all of the sponsors, advertisers and donors for their exceptional generosity and for making this event possible. We also thank our amazing committee along with The Benjamin School’s development team
for their countless hours of hard work, dedication and unwavering support. We would also like to recognize the Honorary Chairs, Scott and Shannon Smith, for their absolute generosity and longstanding commitment to The Benjamin School. John Rousmaniere once said “The goal is not to sail the boat, but rather to help the boat sail herself.” Our children need to learn to navigate this ever-changing world so that what they learn today will successfully carry them, personally and professionally, through life. The Benjamin School’s STEM curriculum starts in our youngest grade, WOW, and continues through grade 12 and gives our children the tools to analyze and problem solve. Tonight through our
“Call From the Heart” appeal, we will be asking for your help to ensure each room in our all-new STEM Center in the Lower/Middle School has the best equipment and furniture to facilitate learning in a technologicallyadvanced setting. “Call from the Heart” donations will also fund STEM curriculum enhancements in the Upper School. We hope that you will consider supporting this important academic advancement for all of our children. With Sincere Gratitude,
Josh and Tammy Crossman Jason and Donna Feldman
MEET THE HONORARY CHAIRS To Our Benjamin School Family, We are proud to serve as honorary chairs for the 2018 BASH (Building A Scholastic Heritage) Gala. Scott and I along with our three sons, Carter (7th), Logan (6th), and Blake (2nd) are grateful to be part of The Benjamin School community. The Buccaneers exemplify the Nulli Secundus (Second to None) motto in all areas of endeavor - fine arts, athletics, and stellar academics. We extend our most sincere appreciation to this evening’s Co-chairs, Josh and Tammy Crossman and Jason and Donna
Feldman, for their extraordinary efforts to ensure the success of this amazing event. BASH is our largest fundraising event of the year, and the incredible dedication, tireless efforts, and commitment by our Co-chairs and our BASH team certainly deserve the utmost applause! We would also like to extend our appreciation to all of the individuals, past and present, that have built this dynamic school with its solid foundation of academic excellence. Thanks also to all those who continue to strive to insure The Benjamin School remains the standard of
excellence. Here’s to a fabulous evening and many more treasured moments as part of this spectacular Benjamin family!

AUCTION RULES General Auction
1. All sales are final, and there will be no exchanges or refunds on items, except where specified. Items or gift certificates are not redeemable for cash. 2. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used by April 7, 2019. 3. Payment in full for auction items, prior to the end of the evening, is mandatory. Payment may be made with cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, or American Express. 4. Item(s) may only be removed from the auction by exhibiting a PAID receipt for said item(s) to a BASH Auction Official.
7. The amount paid for an item is not necessarily deductible as a charitable contribution. The charitable contribution is the amount paid in excess of the fair market value of the item. 8. Item descriptions and restrictions are provided by the donor. Some trips or special events have restrictive dates. All trips and events are subject to availability per the donor. Airfare is included with trips only if indicated in the auction program. 9. In the event of a dispute after bidding has closed, a BASH Auction Official shall act as the final authority and shall determine the winning bidder.
5. All auction items are offered “as is.” 6. The value of items has been determined by the donor and is not warranted by The Benjamin School for tax purposes or general value.
10. If anyone has an inquiry regarding an item purchased at BASH, please call the BASH office at 561.472.3452.
Silent Auction 1. Guests will be asked to register their credit card at the registration table if they plan to bid on any items in the silent auction. 2. All items in the silent auction have a bid sheet adjacent to them. Persons desiring to bid must do so by writing their bid number next to the bid amount on the bid sheet. 3. The “starting bid” is the amount at which the bidding must begin and is so indicated on the bid sheet. In order to constitute a valid bid, each subsequent bid must be equal to, or in excess of, the “minimum raise” amount as indicated on the bid sheet. Bids that do not follow the aforementioned criteria will be deemed invalid and crossed out by a BASH Auction Official.
4. Each new bid must be written on the next available line on the bid sheet. 5. Bid sheets may not be altered in any way nor may they be removed from the auction tables. 6. The highest, properly made bid at the time the auction closes will be the winning bid. 7. If a legitimate dispute arises over the winning bid for an item, a BASH Auction Official may elect to ask the Auctioneer to hold a “bid-off.” In this case, each bidder will continue to write a bid until one stops bidding. The last valid bid will be considered the winner.
Live & Almost Live Auction 1. To register a bid, signal the Auctioneer or an Auction Spotter until your bid is recognized.
2. Winning bids will be recorded by BASH Auction Officials and charged to the winning bidder’s bid number.
3. Winning bids will be determined by the Auctioneer. The decision of the Auctioneer will be final.

Twenty four years and our family is done. The Benjamin School, you are second to none! Five kids graduated and onto bigger things, bittersweet feelings this accomplishment brings. Academics, athletics, the arts.... You've offered it all, the faculty and staff never let us fall. TBS has been the best fit for our family, now that it’s over, tears there will be. Thank you for everything and to all good luck, it sure is great to be a BENJAMIN BUC! The Nicklaus Family
Good Luck to Brandon Doner Class of 2018 on his attending Temple University this coming Fall and Eden Doner Class of 2023 on her continuing journey at Benjamin. Creating wonderful memories in Hawaii during winter break and may 2018 bring many more.
