Call F rom the Heart

Bob Goldberg has been an independent school teacher and administrator for more than 40 years. He has always believed that a strong group of teachers with access to the latest resources can shape a terrific educational environment. It is only fitting for this year’s “Call From the Heart” to focus on what Bob believes is Benjamin’s greatest asset: our teachers. By giving to The Goldberg Faculty Professional Development Fund, you are helping teachers attend workshops and conferences, and receive summer work stipends. Through their “enrichment” work, our teachers are able to develop new curriculum and bring new teaching methods to every Benjamin classroom. Your gift encourages our exceptional teachers to continue to grow professionally, while helping each student grow educationally. Please raise your hand in tonight’s Call From the Heart to help our teachers continue their tremendous work and honor Bob Goldberg.

Welcome from the Chairs

DEAR PARENTS AND FRIENDS OF THE BENJAMIN SCHOOL, Welcome and thank you for joining us on this spellbinding evening as we proudly present our 35th annual Benjamin School BASH Gala, “A Midsummer-ish Night’s Dream.” Get ready for an enchanted encounter filled with silent and live auctions, fabulous food, extraordinary music, dancing, and, maybe even a little pixie dust! Tonight’s event would not be possible without the time and talent of many individuals and businesses in and around our community. We want to thank our generous sponsors, donors and advertisers for making our BASH Gala truly magical, along with our fabulous parent committee and the School’s Development Team for their countless hours of hard work, dedication and support. We would also like to recognize Honorary Chairs, Bob and Robin Martin, for their generosity and long-standing commitment to The Benjamin School. Tonight, after we put down our bidding wands from our live auction, we will have our Call From the Heart appeal, which will focus on our newly established Goldberg Faculty Professional Development Fund. There is no better way to honor not only our Head of School, Robert Goldberg, but to continue the educational steps to help our children lead into the future. We hope you will consider donating to this academic advancement. With warm gratitude, Donna and Jason Feldman Nicole and Ben Foster

Welcome from the Honorary Chairs DEAR BENJAMIN COMMUNITY,

We are humbled to be chosen as Honorary Chairs for the 2019 BASH Gala. It is fitting that the theme of this year’s event is a Shakespearean fairy tale, as we often use that as a description of our early years at Benjamin. From the day we stepped on campus for our oldest to be interviewed, to this current semester when we have one foot out the door, the journey has been somewhat magical. As with any long odyssey, there have been bumps in the road, but the path our family has traveled has been, at times, enchanting, and always rewarding. It is said that it takes a village to raise children, and we are grateful and blessed that the Benjamin community is our village. So cheers to the Chairs for creating this wonderful evening for us to enjoy; to the faculty, administration and staff for continuing to uphold the core values and vision of Marshall and Nancy Benjamin; and to all TBS families for creating a community that is like The Benjamin School – Nulli Secundus! Robin and Bob Martin 3

Class P rojects

4000 – WOW – Picnic Table

4001 – Pre-K – Butterfly Bench and Pillows

Nothing says summer more than a picnic or a picnic table! This child-sized wooden picnic table is decorated with beautiful vines and friendly critters made out of WOW students’ fingerprints.

Add some enchantment to your own room, porch or garden with an adorable metal butterfly bench and a set of pillows decorated with personalized caterpillars by the pre-K students.

4002 – Kindergarten – Quilt

4003 – 1st Grade – Mirror

Every night will be dreamy (and cozy!) under a star-filled quilt highlighted with enchanted trees made by each kindergartner.

Every first grader sketched a self-portrait, which was then uniquely incorporated into a metal frame for a timeless and unforgettable hanging mirror. Anyone who looks into this mirror will be reminded of Shakespeare's famous words: “To thine own self be true.“

16

4004 – 2nd Grade – Mosaic Flowerpot

4005 – 3rd Grade – Set of Large Lanterns

Flowers in the summer night were the inspiration for this large flowerpot. Second graders combined originally designed petals to create magical flowers on this one-of-a-kind piece.

Alluring ambiance and evenings of magic await! Third graders painted their own vision of Starry Night on individual tiles that serve as the base for your LED candles in a set of two, gorgeous statement piece lanterns.

4006 – 4th Grade – Surfboard

4007 – 5th Grade – Mosaic in Picture Frame

Ride the waves or decorate your wall with this functional piece of art that celebrates those midsummer nights – and days! Each fourth grader used water-resistant paint to create their own crescent moon on the back of a 6-foot, soft-top surfboard.

All fifth graders are brought together one more time before they venture off to their next scholastic chapter on the Middle School campus. Thousands of images of the students create this framed picture mosaic of a very familiar face that represents the Benjamin character traits, Buccaneer pride, tradition and so much more. 17
