Queridos Amigos de La Escuela Benjamin,

Bienvenidos a nuestra gala Noches en Habana!

Welcome to our gala Havana Nights! As you don your guayaberas and swishing Spanish dresses, get ready for an exotic night of intrigue. Havana Nights is a timely and appropriate theme for BASH this year because as the island nation to our south enters a new phase of growth and change, so does our school. Benjamin is always stretching to provide your child with the best experiences possible. This year alone, we have captured 60 Scholastic Art Awards, continued to win 1st Place awards for our Upper School student newspaper and video production programs, offered over 90 co-curricular opportunities to our students, brought experts to each division on critical 21st century topics, and on and on. The breadth and depth of our programs are made possible by donors like you! The anfitriones or hosts of tonight’s BASH are our muy simpaticos co-chairs Michelle & Chris Grande and Tammy & Josh Crossman, along with unstoppable honorary cochairs Krista & Steve Nicklaus. Look to them for some of

2

the most festive attire of the evening! Also know that they worked tirelessly to make this evening so spectacular, filled with the rhythm, movement and passion of a 1950’s night in Havana - and of course, the most elaborate auction to date! As we continue Building A Scholastic Heritage, it takes padres determinados y generosos like you to continue in our tradition of a rigorous curriculum coupled with the most caring faculty. Thank you for helping make Benjamin better every day! Deseandoles abrazos,

Roberto “Beto” Goldberg Director de la Escuela

Welcome from the

Chai rs

As Co-chairs of the 33rd annual Benjamin School Gala, we proudly present - BASH 2017, Havana Nights. Get ready for an amazing evening with live and silent auctions, fabulous food, music, dancing and live entertainment in true Havana fashion.

for their countless hours of hard work, dedication and unwavering support. We would also like to recognize the Honorary Chairs, Steve and Krista Nicklaus, for their great generosity and longstanding commitment to The Benjamin School.

We would like to thank all of the sponsors, advertisers and donors for their generosity and support for making this event possible. It takes a team of devoted, passionate individuals to create an event such as this, and we are so grateful to ours. Many thanks to our amazing committee along with The Benjamin School’s development team

We sincerely hope you enjoy this year’s Gala, and we truly appreciate your support as we work together for the betterment of our children’s educational experience at The Benjamin School. In a world of change, our children need comfort in knowing their education will stand the test of time, and fundraising efforts like tonight make it possible.

Last year our special Call From the Heart successfully raised funds to outfit the upcoming STEM Building on the lower school campus. This year, we will be asking for your help to expand and enhance the STEM curriculum throughout all three divisions; lower, middle and upper school. We hope that you will consider supporting this important academic advancement for all of our children. With Sincere Gratitude,

Michelle & Chris Grande Tammy &Josh Crossman

meet the honorary To Our Benjamin School Family, We are truly proud to serve as honorary chairs for the 2017 BASH (Building A Scholastic Heritage) Gala. This will be the 33rd anniversary of The Benjamin School’s annual dinner/dance and auction started by Babs Fisher and Barbara Nicklaus, Steve’s mother. As the School’s biggest fundraising event of the year, the Gala provides a significant source of income used to enhance and enrich the education of our children. Marshall and Nancy Benjamin’s goals for their students were focused on the development of the following characteristics - morality, kindness, integrity, fairness, compassion, acceptance, responsibility, forgiveness, courage and respect. These values are still at the core of a Benjamin education.

Chairs

We want to thank this evening's co-chairs, Josh and Tammy Crossman and Chris and Michelle Grande for putting together this wonderful event. This requires an unbelievable amount of time, talent, coordination, imagination and a sense of humor along the way. The Nicklaus Family would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank those in the Benjamin community including fellow parents, grandparents, faculty, coaches, staff and administrators for all they have done to make TBS such an amazing experience for our children.

pk4

This adorable old school push pedal car will be the envy of all your children's friends. Reminiscent of Cuba’s vintage ‘40s and ‘50s cars, it is made of high quality metal and customized beautifully. Every child in WOW took the time to personally fingerprint each side of the car spelling out WOW, 2031 and TBS to show their school pride.

Two gorgeous Adirondack chairs are available from the PK4-class. They are handmade in Pennsylvania out of a sturdy wood and personalized by the class. A scene of Cuban wild flowers, created from the children’s fingerprints, adorns the backs of the chairs.

Let the games begin! This very fun tropical game table would be a great addition to any play room. Surround the table with chairs and challenge your family to a game of checkers, cards, or the Cuban favorite: dominos. The kindergarteners fingerprinted each palm tree to show their Caribbean appreciation.

A beautiful acrylic tray is this year's first grade art project. This whimsical pineapple tray made of the children's fingerprints is a wonderful piece of memorabilia from your child’s class. From serving your early morning cafe con leche to the evening's Mojitos, you can do it in style.

third grade

This amazing photo collage showcases the playful side of our second graders. The class got together to celebrate and honor the national flower of Cuba. The project is a unique opportunity for you to bring all the children home with you!

Inspired by the exotic flowers of Cuba, this beautiful floral mosaic features our wonderful third grade class. This project is not only a beautiful piece of artwork, but a showcase of your child's classmates!

fourth grade

fifth grade

Paying homage to Cuba’s famous music history, the fourth graders created their own set of bongos. The drums feature each fourth grader’s signature. Two drums and an adjustable stand come with the set: tuned and ready to get your family dancing!

One of the most important and cherished instruments played in Cuba, this playfully decorated acoustic guitar is sure to be a hit with you or your child. Each fifth grader took the time and patience to skillfully personalize their own names as a wonderful token of remembrance of their class of 2024.
