Who Can Supportive Housing Help? Supportive housing is most often used to assist individuals or families with complex and/or challenging needs. Those who are homeless or faced with homelessness are often the beneficiaries of supportive housing projects, especially individuals who also have an extremely low income and may be living with serious issues such as substance addiction, chronic illness, and mental or physical disabilities.
What Additional Support Is Provided? Part of the remit of supportive housing is to provide additional services such as life skills training and job training, access to educational services, and treatment for alcohol and substance use disorders. This level of support has been found to be of particular benefit to those experiencing psychiatric disabilities, with the scope for successful rehabilitation recognized as being significant.
