This passport has been scientifica lly designed to assist with your festiv al experience. To be referenced amid meeting new friends, getting dress ed up, getting lost in the campsite and lapping up your favourite bands and DJs at Playground Weekender. Over the past five fabulous years, we’ve had amazing performances, some sublime costumes, laughter, tears, the odd marriage and yes, children conceived. Such is the power of Playground Weekender. The tremendous team at Del Rio Resort have kindly lent us their beautiful venue so you can call it home, so please treat it with respect so we can come back next year and do it all again.

Remember this Weekender to Slip, Slop, Slap (with regard to sun protection), keep hydrated and look after your fellow festival goers. Also, hold on to your wristband ! It’s the one thing we can identify you with (except the lime green mankini) and you only get one! The first 4 chapters have been a joy, we look forward to writing the next instalment of Playground with you and weeping openly on your shoulder when you get on the ferry on Monday morn ing. Better go (getting a bit teary), have a superb weekend and thanks for comi ng.

ARTISTS

Lamb

Tricky

Lamb’s closing set at Playground Weekender will be a world first. Debuting select tracks from their first new album in eight years, the Mancunian duo will showcase why they are one of the most breathtaking live acts on the planet. Lamb’s new album ‘5’ is due to be released May 5 2011. The future is main stage Sunday night.

After gaining prominence with a debut album that all but defined the trip-hop genre, Tricky has come to be recognised as one of the vanguards of a new musical revolution. Tricky is a unique and enigmatic musician, a celebrity in a genre that has few. Composer, singer, producer; you won’t want to miss his mind blowing set!

Kool & The Gang

CUT COPY

Kool & the Gang are one of the most inspired and influential funk units of our time. Classic tracks to sing and dance along to; ‘Jungle Boogie’, ‘Celebration’ and ‘Get Down On It’ will have the Playground party in full swing! Their live 12-piece stage show at sunset will stay with you forever!

Coinciding with the release of Cut Copy’s highly anticipated new album ‘Zonoscope’, riverside revellers can expect “head nodding bliss” (In The Mix) from the much loved four piece headed by front man Dan Whitford, as they offer up their infectious concoction of organic psychadelia intersecting with repetitive robotics. Awesome!

Architecture in Helsinki

Roy Ayers

Architecture in Helsinki delve deep into the heart of pop music. Their most recent release was euphoric electro-pop single That Beep. Released to coincide with the Australian summer, the song is a stepping stone between their 2007 album Places Like This and their forthcoming album due for a 2011 release. Architecture in Helsinki live shows are a heady blend of sweat, heart, energy and fun.

Roy Ayers is among the best known, most loved and respected Jazz/R&B artists in the world. Known as the Godfather of Neo-soul, Ayers continues to bridge the gap between generations of music lovers. Today, the dynamic music man is an iconic figure in great demand and we are so pleased to welcome him to the main stage for his special blend of sunshine.

KATE NASH

The Beautiful Girls

Kate Nash fast became the it-girl of England’s indie scene winning Best Female at the BRIT Awards with her debut album ‘Made of Bricks’. Her second album is about trust, sexism, homophobia, honesty and love. Nash’s playful hit tracks will be a festival highlight. See you front and centre for some hand clapping fun!

Over the years The Beautiful Girls have created their own eclectic style, blending rock, reggae, pop and folk. The band are an important fixture in the Australian music scene and remain festival favourites. With much respect we are so pleased to welcome The Beautiful Girls to Playground for the first time in 2011 to shimmer in the summer sun.

De La Soul

YOU AM I

At the time of its 1989 release De La Soul’s debut album, ‘3 Feet High and Rising’, was hailed as the future of hip-hop. For over 20 years they have rocked us with their De La songs full of inscrutable samplings, whimsically irreverent lyrics, social commentary, light rhythm and laid back rhymes. Get ready to witness a piece of history with De La Soul at Playground 2011.

You Am I is one of Australia’s most successful and internationally admired bands. They remain a national treasure who continue to create psychedelic and challenging sounds. Their latest ‘self titled’ album is described as ‘their finest and most definitive work to date’ (Rolling Stone). Renowned for their incredible live performance, don’t miss them centre stage.

Midnight Juggernauts

Caribou

Australian steamroller synth-rockers Midnight Juggernauts orbit to Playground to take us on their intergalactic journey. Veering from percussive, hypnotic grooves to luxuriant jams, walls of sound, and 70s AM melodic forks they will ignite the dance floor with their blistering live show. Get ready to enter into another galaxy.

A leading figure in electronic music over the past decade Caribou is Canadian Dan Snaith. Garnering critical acclaim yet again for his brilliant 2010 album release ‘Swim’, a multi-layered affair-ripe with fascinating rhythms, instrumentation, and vocals. This all translates into an eclectic live performance – main stage Friday night. Be there!
