“We have witnessed the anguish and anger of demonstrators, their cries punctured by politicians urging them to vote their power. Both are right. to demand attention to the wrenching pain of systemic injustice. because we deserve leaders who see us, who hear us and who are willing to act on our demands. Voting will not save us from harm, but silence will surely damn us all.

Why did we put this together? Part of our charge and purpose for researching candidates, measures, and propositions was to make it fun and engaging for both us and our network. We understand that politics can be dry, frustrating, and overly complicated. BUT... it is our personal goal to make the process ENGAGING, , , and RELEVANT to our community. ACCESIBLE We recognize that voting isn’t the only factor in creating equitable and sustainable change. However, we cannot deny how some of these races and measures are to moving our city, state, and ELEC20 TION20 nation forward. We ask you to please join us in the conversation and to engage in the voting process. V O T E !

How does this guide work? This guide was specifically developed with a focus on .LOCAL ELECTIONS. These candidates are organizers and activists that have been working for and with our communities to enact change close to home. We are deliberately voting UP our ballot this cycle. What that means is that we are looking at the issues that impact our daily quality of life and choosing candidates that we know in our own neighborhood. Then we are supporting candidates that help with those overall goals. Local elections matter just as importantly as federal elections. In the San Diego Primary, there were multiple precincts in one City Council race where the ELEC20 TIO N20 difference between 1st and 2nd place was less than ten votes. at all levels, OT E ! V ESPECIALLY locally.

Sean Elo-Rivera
San Diego City Council: District 9
Sean Elo-Rivera why we support: As seven-year residents of City Heights and District 9 we are confident that Sean Elo-Rivera is the best candidate for the job. Sean’s experience as an organizer and activist and community college trustee demonstrate his leadership, community-building, and integrity. Sean knows that housing and homelessness must be addressed, that we must be serious about acting on the City’s climate action plan, and that addressing racial injustices includes and goes beyond police accountability. Sean is committed to working for and with the community by creating resident-informed solutions that reflect the diversity of District 9. We have seen that Opportunity For All isn’t just a campaign slogan, but it is a value-statement about how and why Sean will serve District 9.
