IF SGT. PEPPER HAD LIVED By India Bennett
T
he Beatles were a miracle if there ever was one. A girl named Tina Brooker got her friend into the Beatles but was otherwise considered a bad friend. A neighbor of her’s was quoted as saying, “the only good thing you’ve done for her is the Beatles.” Well, to be quite honest, that’s a pretty good one. When you hear Paul, John, George and Ringo...then you know you’ve heard the absolute best. The Beatles hit it big officially you could say when they played on the Ed Sullivan Show and became all the news of the time. They made headlines with titles such as “Moptop Madness” and “Beatle Mania,” as hair barely past the ears on a guy and those notorious boots that the Beatles popularized

so much that they were renamed “Beatle Boots” were quite edgy back in the mid 60’S. Eventually as the late 60’s began to arrive, the black and white suited, moptop look was gone for The Beatles, along with the boots. A new style kicked in for The Beatles. Now was their “trippy” phase. They were more hippie than anyone in the world but since this was the late 60’s and everyone it seemed was suddenly involved in tripping, it affected their music quite a bit. Not in a bad way though. When Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds came along, the song was supposedly about LSD because when you look at the name (L)ucy in the (S)ky with (D) diamonds, it may equal LSD to you.
John Lennon says his son Julian drew a picture of a classmate, Lucy, putting her in the sky surrounded by diamonds and said “This is Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” though some people still don’t believe it. Then things got bad when Brian Epstein, The band’s friend and manager, died from combining his prescription medication with alcohol. It was said to be an accident, not a suicide, but it can never be proven. After that, everything went downhill for the Beatles. Their hippiness faded and they all began to fight with each other. Then John met Yoko Ono, an artist, after hearing about her art shows. She helped John through depression and everything else. Sadly the other band members were not
all that fond of Yoko. John became addicted to heroin at one point so he got Yoko to drive him all around while he went through “cold turkey” in the back seat, stopping only to let him throw up and use the rest room. Ringo wrote a song the band actually recorded for once, and Paul grew a beard. With the release of Let it Be the Beatles broke up. But that didn’t end the music. John played until he was shot by a rabid fan in 1980. Ringo is living the dream in California and is still a musician. George made Indian style music until he got cancer and died 2001. Paul is just as charming as ever and is still on the music scene. The Beatles will always be a part of our hearts. 3. Peace Voice
We all of course have heard about
Bullying; The worst case scenario By India Bennett
4. Peace Voice
bullycide, (when a person, usually a kid, commits suicide due to bullying or emotional stress put on by peers) This is a huge and growing problem in America and now the rest of the world. Lets not forget about Kristina Arielle Calco, a girl who had just turned 16 the very day the bullies finally pushed her too far and she took her own life. One of the worst parts was that she wanted to do research to cure AIDS and Cancer and big diseases like that and this beautiful being could’ve been the one to do it - to find a cure for cancer. Or to just have a happy life and to have children. What was very shocking was that she seemed to have it all but when these kids taunted her she started to believe what they said to her. She, as well as many others, pretended to be happy when she wasn’t. Some girls have gone to the extent of drug abuse, cutting, suicide attempts, anything (and everything) to escape (even if for just a moment) from their lives. Kids who have been raised right, to believe human rights would always come first and learned that the first rule in life is to “treat others as you would want to be treated,” find themselves wishing that it were true for everyone. But sadly, many kids are brought up with no respect for other people, whether through neglect by their parents or by parents who also have no such basic respect for other people and pass on their selfish ways to their children. In our society people are respected for being mean when
they should be looked up to for being nice. Bullying (especially including the emotional kind) violates everything about being a human being. One wonders, how did we get stuck in such a world? Where is love? In a way we almost feel sorry for bullies because they are people who must hurt or put down others to make themselves appear worthy. It is pathetic that someone so close to high school or even college could be stuck in this preschool behavior. Bullies need to learn how to act like decent people or maybe be sent back to preschool to learn basic, decent social skills. Otherwise they will find themselves in big trouble when they do get out into the world. Can you imagine a company hiring someone who torments other people just for fun or who has that on their school record? And now, with these suicides we are finally seeing the interest of the police involved. But “preschoolers” are not able to think about such serious matters that can result from their actions. All they can think about is making someone else feel bad so they don’t have to think about how pathetic they themselves really are. Remaining ignorant and mean and shallow forever. The next time one of you bullies a kid (which includes gossiping or saying something to them or calling them a name or whatever,) just think: it could be the last time you ever see them. And the beginning of trouble like you’ve never seen before.
