Sand-painting is a sacred healing ceremony.

The “shaman” chants while he paints, asking the Holy People to come into the sand-painting to restore “balance” to the person being healed.

Order and Symmetry are used to symbolize harmony and “balance.

The person that has come to the shaman to be healed sits on the completed sand-painting facing east.

The Holy People enter through the sand-painting to absorb the illness and restore the person’s “balance.”

The sacred ceremony ends when the shaman destroys the sand-painting and the illness it has absorbed.
