The New Proof of Age Standards Scheme card

www.passm8.com

The National Proof of Age Standards Scheme What is it and do we want to be affiliated with it?

The PASS scheme has received mixed views in the press, having been brought under scrutiny following advances in technology that have opened up the ability to fake proof of age cards, there are even fake proof of age cards available on the internet, from companies such as www.agecards.com , demonstrating the need for a card to be endorsed and recognised by traders and authorities City-wide. The government recognised the PASS hologram as a valid form of proof and we would like them to back us in promoting this way of protecting the law. For this reason, it is now crucial that card production technology moves forward on such schemes, to ensure future PASS card providers can provide a credible system with a view to eliminating this fraud potential. The use of the PASS hologram alone, makes the card open to copy and cheap printed versions. For this reason EasyKard plc have taken new technology to the next level adding extra security features, compliant with strict credit card regulations. With the hologram technology, information chip, swipe facilityof the data stripe on the back and linked with the strict (KYC) know your customer policies required by all major credit card providers will introduce a new PASS card, which has the potential to bring Manchester to the forefront of this legislation with the ability to enforce it.

How bad is the problem with non-affiliated proof of age cards? Press article: The Trading Standards Institute

TSI DEMANDS BAN ON FAKE ID SALES

The Trading Standards Institute (TSI) today called for a crackdown on websites selling novelty ID cards after a new survey revealed tens of thousands of under-age teens now carry fake ID. The survey, out today, reveals 7% (one in 14) of children aged 14-17 carry false ID so they can buy age-restricted products or get into pubs and clubs – with nearly half of them getting theirs off Internet websites. The finding, revealed in a survey of children in the North West, prompted a call for immediate action from TSI’s lead officer on under-age sales, Brandon Cook. “It should be an offence to supply this type of card and to use them,” he said, speaking at the national Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards Conference in Manchester, organised by TSI. He said the findings of the Alcohol Attitudes survey, carried out by Trading Standards North West, demonstrated how widespread the problem was. “Based on the survey findings, which show 7% of under-age teens carry fake ID and half get theirs off the Internet, we estimate there could be at least 100,000 in circulation and probably more. “Young people buy these cards with the express aim of trying to prove they are older than they really are. “This completely undermines our work to encourage retailers to check a person’s ID before selling age-restricted products to them – and for this reason alone they should be banned.” Legitimate proof of age cards are available under the PASS approval scheme, which is administered by the British Retail Consortium and supported by TSI. PASS cards carry a hologram to help retailers identify genuine ID. Mike MacGregor, TSI representative on the PASS Board, said: “Our work with retailers strongly emphasises that they should only accept proof-of-age cards that carry the PASS hologram.” “Selling novelty ID via the internet should be illegal; the existence of these cards undermines the work done to control age restricted sales, it puts young people, retailers and licensees at risk. Young people should be encouraged to carry only proof of age cards bearing the PASS hologram, licensees and retailers should look to the PASS logo as their benchmark.” Issue Date – 27/06/2007 Edited version: for a full copy of this article go to: http://www.ltaltd.co.uk/press_details.asp?id=127

THE CHALLENGE All of the major cities in the UK, face challenges with the enforcement of responsible drinking, gambling, age restricted retail sales and other adult leisure pursuits. Manchester is a city at the forefront of development, and growth so should lead the way in enforcement of the policies and procedures required by legislation to protect the people within it. EasyKard plc based at it’s Wharfside Technology centre, on the edge of the new Media City development in Trafford, are a market leader in branded pre-pay and credit card technology. Here at EasyKard plc we want to bring together our secure systems and technology and enable Manchester to set new targets in the enforcement of age legislative products and services, bringing new confidence to the existing PASS system, resulting in recommendation by Licensee trainers throughout the city, as a future enforcement tool. We seek to affiliate the card with Breweries, Bars, Clubs, Restaurants, Casinos and also with the Greater Manchester Police as a way to reduce the ongoing problem of underage drinking, gambling and also theft of cash. Licensing Act Policy Statement 2008-2011

“Those who manage their premises well and play a purely positive role have nothing to fear from this policy. However we will not tolerate premises that damage our communities through selling alcohol to drunk or under-age people, who compromise the safety of our citizens or who fail to prevent their premises causing a nuisance to the communities in which they are based. Richard Leese - Leader of Manchester City Council

What else is the PASSM8 card? EasyKard plc, in 2009 will be offering the PASSM8 card, a pre-pay and emergency credit* service with the added option of being a PASS card. There will be 2 cards available the PASS card and the regular members card. (*Credit services restricted by age and responsible use policies)

Being pre-pay will result in enhanced security reducing the chances of theft that cash offers to criminals. By applying the K.Y.C rules, normally associated with MasterCard and Visa, currently used on other cards issued by the company we will also cut out fraudulent applications for cards. This process linked to the existing PASS proof of who you are and proof of age will ensure that card-holder status is vetted to the highest levels available. EasyKard plc, will then apply updated card production technology, such as card embossing, chip and pin, UV-layers, and other security options, to ensure the card can not be simply copied by fraudulent individuals. We want people to feel safe and enjoy going out in a social environment without having to carry lots of cash, a passport for proof of age or any other documents that if lost or stolen could cause them lots of problems. These cards can be cancelled by either a quick call or by logging into the card holders account online and reporting the card lost or stolen. They can request another card at this time and would be treated as a priority. Currently no other company in the UK offers any card similar with all the added security features. Pre-pay would help to slow down binge drinking as you wouldn’t carry excess amounts of cash out to a bar or club you would use your card, with a set limit by you. The cards usage data base could be of use to GMP to identify indiviuals* (*subject to data protection legislation)

With over ÂŁ1million in financial backing and access to all the modern technology to create this new product, Easykard plan to be the market leader in this area.
