WHY SUN AND MOON LIVE IN THE SKY (Africa) CAST:
2 village storytellers
STORY:
Sun and Moon invite Water into their house.
1.
Over there! Over there!
2.
(I swear it)
1.
Sun, and his sister Moon, lived together in a big house. And their best friend
2.
(Water)
1.
used to live next door. And one day Sun said to Water:
2
“Water
1.
how come you never try to visit us?” And Water answered: “O no my friends. I am much too big. Your house . . . will never hold me.
So Sun 2.
(and his sister Moon)
1.
worked hard to build even a bigger house
2.
(right next to the old one).
1.
And they again called out to Water: “Water!
2.
(Water!)
1.
Come in! Our house is finally finished.”
2.
(Catastrophe!)
1.
For Water did come rolling in, along with his fish
2.
(and his mud).
1.
And soon Sun
2.
(and his sister Moon)
1.
were watching him seep . . . onto their floor.
1.
“Should I still keep coming?”
2.
(shouted Water).
1.
“Yes”
2.
“(they answered).
1.
“We don’t mind a little dampness!”
1.
So Water
2.
(with great bounds)
1.
kept coming
2.
(and coming).
1.
And soon
2.
(I swear it)
1.
he had risen as high as the chairs . . . and even the tables
2.
(and even the window sills).
1.
“Keep coming”
2.
(shouted Sun)
1.
“you are beautifully . . . washing our walls.”
1.
But now Water had risen
2.
(practically)
1.
to the ceiling. And Sun
2.
(and his sister Moon)
1.
had to climb . . . to their grassy roof.
1.
“He is so vast”
2.
(cried Moon)
1.
“and he is still . . . pouring in. We’ll have to leap”
2.
(she said)
1.
“Into the sky.”
1.
And they did
2.
(I swear it)
1.
leap . . . into the sky, where they still are.
1.
See them? There.
2.
There!
1.
Sun!
2.
(then Moon).
1.
Then Sun!
2.
Then Moon.
1.
First one passing.
2.
(then the other passing)
1.
Circling.
2.
(circling)
1.
Waiting . . .
2.
(I swear it!)
1. . . . for their house to dry. PAGE
