The holidays are coming! It is such a great time of year in Crested Butte and the Gunnison Valley. There’s nothing that beats watching the big, soft snowflakes fall from the sky while preparing for all the holiday festivities. There is so much fun to be had; however, when it’s time to shop for loved ones it can be a little daunting at times. Don’t go to the mall – buy local! In an effort to support our local crafters, makers, artists, and entrepreneurs, I have drafted a gift guide full of their locally made products. Whether you are a local or visitor, there may be something in this guide that’ll be perfect for a family member, friend, or even you! As you flip through the pages, you’ll see you can purchase directly from these makers. Another option for locally made goods is to stop by the Crested Butte Holiday Bazaar at the Queen of All Saints Parish Hall on December 3rd. Many local retailers are proud to sell locally made products. Chopwood Mercantile, Lavish, Paragon Gallery, and Mountain Earth are a few that come to mind in Crested Butte. The Local Market and numerous others in Gunnison showcase local products too. Just ask what products are locally made, and I’m sure the retailers will be happy to point them out! Crested Butte and Gunnison are home to a number of talented artists and photographers. Please visit the fine galleries, and check out the beautiful work. View a list of Crested Butte galleries at http://www.downtowncrestedbutte.com/arts-culture. Open Your Eyes Gallery and the Gunnison Gallery in Gunnison feature local artwork too. Stroll through downtown to see what you can find! As you can see, there are so many options to buy from Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley makers, and this is just a small sampling of locally made products. I’m happy to support local people and businesses. I’ve been a local here for 26 years and know the importance of sustaining a lively economy. I wish you the happiest of holidays and a wonderful new year!
