Alyssa Hammond’s IDCC 390 class is pursuing yet another unique endeavor: to win the attention of television celebrity Daniel Tosh. After attempts to reach Conan O’Brien and Ellen DeGeneres, the ambitious group will now utilize an extensive social media campaign to attract Tosh’s attention.

“The guidelines and objectives are still the same— they will get an automatic A+ if they get Tosh to acknowledge them on social media or on his show,” said Hammond. “We wanted to target a celebrity who was both relevant to the community here at Bentley while also reachable,” said junior Deena Desharnais. “We know Tosh is popular among college students and we could get the

school to support our efforts.” The class will be hosting a Bentley customized Harlem Shake Video on Feb. 24 at 9 p.m. The event description encourages attendance, stating, “Invite any and all of your friends, we want this to be HUGE and when this goes viral, you’ll get to say you were there!” The class is also encouraging participation through See TOSH, Page 6

Up close and personal with The Vagina Monologues By Alyson Bisceglia Former managing editor

“If your vagina got dressed, what would it wear?” This was one of the questions addressed during the Women’s Center’s presentation of The Vagina Monologues last Friday, Feb. 15, in Koumantzelis Auditorium. This question, along with the monologues as a whole, was meant to get the audience thinking about the vagina in a new way, personifying it and portraying it as what makes women, well, women. As a woman, it is a part of you and who you are. And as depicted by the numerous skits and monologues that night, it is even more than that; a trait, an idea, a connection, a vessel for new life, a voice.

sexual encounters to rape and abuse. The Vagina Monologues, written by Eve Ensler in 1996, is a compilation of personal statements and experiences by women of all ages and backgrounds. Ensler wrote this piece after inter-

viewing about 200 women about their views on sex, relationships and violence against women. The monologues, as depicted by the See MONOLOGUES, Page 5

Bentley University is an institution steeped in the history of business academia. Largely focused on accounting and finance, the university is a breeding ground for future business professionals. Aside from the business-focused curriculum, one of the largest and most influential business organizations on campus is the Bentley Microfinance Group (BMG). The BMG had its beginnings in the form of a syllabus drafted by professors Diane Kellogg and Dean Roy “Chip” Wiggins in 2008. According to the Microfinance Group’s website, the plan was to create a class in which students could develop the blueprints for “a student-run organization that provides loans to entrepreneurs and small business owners excluded from traditional financial institutions in the Boston area.” This initiative has since grown into two major constituents: an academic component that offers courses to familiarize students with the world of microfinance and

the BMG itself, which is principally student-managed and is governed by its own Strategic Advisory Board, Loan Approval Board, and a Student Executive Board. The BMG is now expanding its horizons further and will publish the Bentley Microfinance Review beginning in September 2013. The Review will be the only undergraduate microfinance journal in the world. According to Michael Mazmanian, the organization’s EVP of External Relations, the Review came into existence with “the rationale being that as one of the premier collegiate microfinance organizations in t he co unt ry , st ud e nt s deserved the opportunity to publish their findings in a professional forum.” Content for the Bentley Microfinance Review will almost exclusively come from Bentley’s undergraduate students, including BMG members, students taking microfinance courses and students interested in the world of microfinance. Content is chosen by a student editorial board comprised of nine See MICROFINANCE, Page 6
