this year’s Spring Day concert will feature headliner Ludacris and as opener, Jay Sean, on April 24, according to Jessica Kenerson, Campus Activities Board (CAB) advisor. Matt Doe, Music Entertainment Committee Chair for CAB, called Ludacris possibly the most well-known entertainer to perform at Bentley. Doe went on to say that the concert is, “easily the biggest combination of artists we have ever had.” Ludacris’ most recent CD, Battle of the Sexes, currently holds the number one spot on the Billboard top 200 list, while his song “how Low” is number 10 on Billboard top radio Songs. Up-and-coming artist Jay Sean had a number one hit on the U.S. Billboard hot 100 and U.S. Billboard pop Songs with

Bentley Men’s Basketball team has done it again, returning to the DII Final Four for the second time in three years after defeating the fourth ranked DII team in the nation, Augusta State University, 67-64. It was truly a site to see, with perhaps the most excitement Falcon fans have enjoyed in two years, as the underdog team celebrated on the court. Bentley came into the game facing arguably its toughest

opponent in years, in the form of the Augusta St. (GA) Jaguaranked fourth in the nation and touting an all-star lineup of seniors, including Ben Madgen, a 2,300 point scorer and Fred Brathwaite, considered by many to be one of the best in DII. Bentley would also be faced with the loss of junior G tom Dowling, who while on the court is pure magic for the Falcons, and Bentley is totally different team without #32. In a move to stymie vandalism and littering on campus, Student Affairs has asked a number of student groups to participate in an on-campus cleanup program each Saturday morning. the move has split the leadership of different groups, with some questioning whether asking student leaders to help is an effective, sustainable way to keep the campus clean. “this initiative is an effort to try and get the entire community more aware of their own behavior because now students

are part of the solution,” said Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Doreen Floyd.

Bentley-B team also earned second place in the High tide B-team tournament.

Those aren’t raisins… On tuesday night, a resident in Orchard South apartments called in to report a problem with ants in the unit. facilities Management was notified for an exterminator to be called.

Afternoon delight Saturday was a beautiful day and nearly the entire Bentley campus made their way outside to enjoy some fun in the sun. a joyous party ensued all over campus. the day was going great until late in the day when university Police officers decided to crack down on the omnipresent open container of alcohol violations all over campus. they met with several pockets of resistance but found a particularly tough group at the lower greenspace. there, campus police spotted and approached a girl who was wrapped in a blanket, fast asleep in a very unnatural position on the grass. When they began to check the status of the female, some dude confronted them saying, “What, she can’t even take a nap!?” When questioned, he informed officers that it didn’t matter if he knew her or not. the student put up quite a fuss but eventually gave his Id to the offers who informed him that he would be charged with being disrespectful and uncooperative with administrative personnel. the student laughed at the officers and said “OK, tough guy,” as he walked away. the cops then turned their attention back to the girl passed out in the grass. they gently shook her awake and she rolled over gave a confused but friendly,

“hello,” to the officers. they noticed 2 nips on the blanket and asked her how much she had to drink. the girl simply replied, “enough.” Officers decided it would be prudent to administer a sobriety test and helped her off the ground. When it was time to walk on her own she quickly clung to one officer for support. When she began to vomit, an ambulance was called to take her to the hospital. She will be charged with public intoxication, protective custody and an underage alcohol violation. While the officers were waiting for the ambulance to arrive, a male approached them and identified himself as the boyfriend of the female. He denied that she had been drinking at all. the student was asked to leave the scene but refused and was charged with being uncooperative and disrespectful to administrative personnel. the ordeal had attracted a large crowd and the police were being pounded from all sides with verbal harassment. the vulgarities were particularly harsh from one of the windows of Orchard South where swears and pig noises continued even after the ambulance had left. Officers identified the room where the yelling was coming from and went to find the student. as officers approached the room in question, the person yelling bolted out of the room and into the room across the hall. Police knocked on the door and threatened to write up everyone in the room if they didn’t tell them who it was that was yelling. the group quickly sold out the student. the male had red, watery eyes and claimed that his contacts were bothering him. He said that he would not allow officers into his room and then ran into his room and slammed the door shut in the officers’ faces. the university Police eventually got the door open and began to search the room. the student denied drinking but officers found an open 30 rack on the floor of the apartment. He will be charged with suspicious behavior and disrespect to administrative personnel.

Christine Polumbo takes over as Director of New Student Orientation By Brian Lofrumento VAnGuARD STAFF

A key component of any college experience is orientation, and Bentley university’s own new student orientation program has recently undergone some changes. The biggest change of all is that there is a new Director of new Student Orientation as Christine Palumbo has taken the reins of the program. Palumbo is no stranger to the program, and her experience will ensure that every incoming student – starting with this summer’s incoming class – has as good of an experience as those in years past. “I have worked with the new Student Orientation program at Bentley in varying degrees of responsibility since 1996,” said Palumbo. “I was an assistant to the program when we did eight individual one-night sessions of 65 new students in each session. I was a key participant in changing the experience to what we currently know as orientation.” “Through my time at Bentley, I have been acting as coordinator, color group leader, committee member, intern supervisor, program coordinator, training coordinator and operations lead and now, director,” she added. The orientation program

Orientation is a vital part of a student’s development making them feel connected to Bentley.

is a critical introduction to the university for all incoming freshmen. The program introduces students to the campus, to life in college, and, perhaps most importantly, to fellow students. Many students often meet their roommates or future friends at orientation. “Orientation really helped me become familiar with Bentley's campus,” said junior Katie Spinello. “When I arrived on campus, I knew all of the build-

SPRING DAY Continued from Page 1 his song “Down.” Kenerson pointed out that both artists “are household names” because of the success they have experienced on the charts. “Based on artists’ availability and our budget for the event, I think we’ve picked two artists that will appeal to the vast majority of the campus,” said Andrew Leffler, CAB President. The announcement of two hip-hop and R&B performers breaks from the tradition of the last three Spring Day concerts in which there have been two acts, one rock group and one hip-hop and R&B performer. “You can’t please everyone, no matter who you go with, whether it be rap or rock, and there is always going to be a population of the student body that is not thrilled,” said Kenerson, who went on to commend CAB for doing a “really great job” throughout this process. A number of rumors regarding who CAB has invited to campus surfaced over the last few weeks. “I think as it got

closer to the announcement, more people started to hear about Ludacris. I honestly don’t know how, though,” said Doe. Doe alsorevealed that the Music Entertainment Committee looked at a number of different artists, including Snoop Dog and 50 Cent in the rap genre. In contrast, the leading rock band was Dropkick Murphys. Kenerson stated that the selection of artists for this year’s event was “limited.” “This year the drop-off in artists was tremendous,” said Kenerson, “so that if we didn’t go with the Jay Sean and Ludacris combination, the drop-off in an opener especially was very vast.” After , a survey went out to the Bentley community asking them what they thought of last year’s performers “students indicated that they wanted a more current artist, and we believe Jay Sean is the perfect fit,” said Leffler. Spring Day will be held on April 24 throughout the entire day, with the concert being held in the Dana Center at 5:00 p.m., with doors opening at 4:30 p.m.

ing names and how to find the places I needed to get to. It made me feel a lot more comfortable in the first few days on campus.” “I really liked orientation as an incoming freshman,” said junior Marc Santilli, who not only experiences orientation first hand, but was also an orientation leader in 2008. Santilli continued, “I think that I gained valuable, necessary information that all freshmen need that pertained to classes,

campus life, and organizations to get involved in One thing that I think could be improved is allowing freshmen the opportunity to meet more of their class, rather than just staying in their individual groups,” concluded Santilli. Most students will be wary of any changes to the orientation program, considering the fond memories attached to their summer before freshman year. Palumbo insists the program will remain similar

to what current Bentley students experienced in previous years. “The 2010 program will look very much like the 2009 program. Every year the program changes to address assessment issues from the year before. I anticipate some movement of starting times, locations and some program changes,” stated Palumbo. “But current Bentley students will recognize it as something close to what they went through. The future of all orientations; new Student, Transfer, Graduate, International and ALAnA will be discussed for greater collaboration between all parties. no changes have been made as of yet,” she concluded. Whatever the case may be, the change in director won’t see the orientation program lose focus. With her vast array of experience in both the orientation program and at Bentley, Palumbo knows just what orientation means to the school and to students. “I want new students that complete any program we deliver to leave with a sense of connection to the campus, a feeling of pride and an understanding of being a member of the Bentley community, and an excitement in the anticipation of next four years,” said Palumbo.

CLEANUP Continued from Page 1 and our organizations because we truly love what we do,” said Student Government President Puja Shah. “While it is important to give back, it is not our responsibility to clean up after our peers.” Though Association of Bentley Activities (ABA) President Tyler Williams does think the idea is good in theory, he echoed Shah’s statement by saying, “I think we [student groups] should help in coming up with a way to curb vandalism, not be asked to be the way.” The initiative was proposed at a March 5th meeting with representatives from Student Affairs, Resident Hall Association (RHA) and SGA. In e-mails that went out asking organizations to participate, it was made clear that attendance was not required and it would be acceptable if only some members of a group wanted to attend. “I don’t want any student group to feel required or pushed into doing this,” said Andrew Shepardson, Dean of Student Affairs. RHA was the first organiza-

tion to agree to the campus cleanup and brought out twenty members on Saturday, March 20. RHA President Marc Santilli stated that RHA participated because the student population, “needs to start to take accountability for where we live and not rely on others to clean up after ourselves.” President of Campus Activities Board (CAB) Andrew Leffler and Williams both pointed out to The Vanguard that while they were against the idea, at time of print their respective executive boards have not decided whether they will participate. Williams proposed that this should be utilized as a “part of the judicial arsenal,” requiring students caught breaking Bentley policies to clean up the campus. Allocation and Internal Audit Committee (AIA) Chair Elise Hanaoka does plan to participate in the campus cleanup. However, she was clear that she believes this plan is not a way to actually solve the problem of vandalism and littering. “Whether it is student leaders cleaning up campus or Facilities,” said

Hanaoka, “those who vandalize and create the messes are still being cleaned up after with no consequences or level of accountability.” For that reason, among others, SGA, “will not be participating in the weekly campus cleanup initiative,” said Shah. “I understand that when student leaders are called on by administration, it is difficult to turn away,” said Shah, “but why should we overlook an opportunity for us to come together and find a better solution?” Many student leaders did feel that while this initiative is addressing a worthwhile cause, asking this of already very involved campus leaders cannot be sustained over the long term.“SGA stands with administration to find a better, long-term initiativ,” said Shah. Dean Shepardson pointed out that he hoped this plan would not have to continue if used effectively. “Hopefully the student culture will grow into one that says, ‘Let’s take care of ourselves, so that no one needs to clean up for us in the morning,’” said Shepardson.

*The Vanguard’s editorial as well as the editorial cartoon are proposed at each Editorial Board meeting. They are represented as being the opinions of the Board as a whole, although drawn by individuals, and not the Bentley community.

editorial Enough with the signatures There comes a time in everyone’s Bentley career when you feel like the number of e-mails you are sending out, and your obvious importance, requires you to take a few shortcuts and permanently affix a signature to the bottom of each e-mail that comes from your “midas-esque” fingers. The thing about signatures, though, is that they should be exactly that, a signature. a brief scan through almost anyone’s inbox will prove that this is far from what is happening, with most signatures straying away from pithy sign off to boastful resume. In some cases, an e-mail signature has morphed into more of a phallic size comparison for some than a time-saving sign off. here is a challenge for readers: go through your inbox and find some of the longer e-mail signatures you can find. a brief scan of The Vanguard e-mail account rendered one gem of a signature, listing everything from former membership in organizations to former jobs held.

In total, the signature was 11 lines long. This has got to stop. We understand you are important, we understand we should be careful with what we send to such a well-connected leader and we understand that you used to work as a clerk at cVS, but really, do you need to send it to everyone? are you really providing vital information to those whom you e-mail, or is this just another way to send out your resume? It has become an increasing trend for people to put former positions held as well, including everything from “Former President and Founding Member of Club X,” to “Former Intramural BLeague Basketball captain.” We skimmed through our collective lives and thought of some of the former positions we have held. “Former Las Vegas day School 5th grade class Secretary” or “Former Middle School Student of the Week (10 times).” how about former jobs we have had; “Former

Subway Sandwich artist,” or “Former Babysitter, grades 6th – 8th, for Tommy and Johnny.” and what if we got into future goals and aspirations? “Future Father to Michael, Juliette and gwyneth,” one could read. It is not farfetched to assume that some students have their future so planned out. “Future husband of the Year,” said one dreamer. “Future Inmate 23345691,” pondered another. “Future cEO,” “Future cPa,” “Future POTuS,” these are all aspirations of some and if your former positions on campus are important, why aren’t your future aspirations? Where does it stop? Where do we draw the line to ludicrous signatures? E-mail is a revolutionary means of communication and something that has totally changed the way we do business. What e-mail was not meant for was to let the world (or those who read your e-mails) know of how important you are or what positions you used to hold. It is one thing to give

Consent Day combines sex and fun for awareness Second year of event looks to sustain past success with greener practices and new shirt By Jon McColgan Editor in ChiEf

it’s no secret that college life puts sex into the forefront of its students’ lifestyles, and with this sexual push, Student Affairs staff is once again coming together to produce the popular Consent day initiative, set this year for April 8, from 2-5 p.m. of the Greenspace. Consent day, a type of fun activity fair where participants play games that help educate the players about the importance of consensual sex and the feelings, thoughts and opinions of their potential partners, was wellattended success in its inaugural year last April. “the goal of the program is remaining the same as last year: teach Bentley students that the best sex is safe, consensual sex,” said tony Martin, assistant director of residence Life and co-chair of the Consent day committee. What students particularly enjoyed about the event last year was the free t-shirt handed out to those participants who completed the games of a given number of stations. After receiving the

stamp of approval from the stations, you were eligible to receive a shirt and sign the pledge banner (Editor’s note: this banner is pictured on the front Page). the shirts were an instant hit, as an unscientific poll of 750 random Bentley students conducted by the Vanguard revealed that the Consent day shirts are considered the best shirt they’ve received at an event while at Bentley by 78 percent of those polled,

trumping Spring day shirts, which received 11 percent of the vote. one sophomore student noted on his form, “the Consent day shirt because it grabs your attention with SEX right across it, and made a good point in a college humor way,” while a female senior stated, “the shirt was entertaining and good looking. it was definitely one of Bentley’s better successes in my four years here.”

i still see students wear our t-shirts from last year-the message is continuously being promoted. As a result, we consider this event to be a new campus tradition and are pleased to have the support of Student Affairs and the greater community,” said Jessica Greher, assistant director of Wellness. this year, we are fortunate that Consent day also falls around the same time as take Back the night,” continued Greher. “together these two community initiatives promote an environment that fosters individual empowerment and a culture where sexual assault and misconduct are not accepted.” this year Martin and Greher have steered the event into being more sustainable, eliminating the thick booklets students were handed last year with a flipbook to be distributed campus-wide electronically and vinyl banners that can be every year rather than making disposable paper signs. Also, the committee decided to include more student input in terms of the Consent day 2010 logo displayed the t-shirt, banners & signage. “ten students proposed

their ideas and the committee unanimously selected Prerana Bhounsle’s designs. this is a great opportunity for a student to provide input into an event that has such a broad reach,” said Greher. A number of campus organizations, both professional and student, lend a hand in producing the event, including the Center for health & Wellness, Student Life, residence Life, the class cabinets, rhA, PridE, La Cultura Latina, Judicial Board, the Vanguard, StEP, BUB, the CSd Peer Educators, the Women’s Center, SGA and Greek Life. “We had a very well attended program of over 500 students last year, and student involvement was fantastic,” said Martin. “if we can sustain the event, we will hopefully have a bigger budget and make a great event a can’t-miss annual experience.” t-shirts will be handed out as students complete the activities, and only the first 500 students will receive a shirt, so students should get there early to have some fun, learn about sex and get a free shirt that students consider the best you can get.

More Than Words, a crucial part of the journey to success for some students By Lily Ann Montemayor VAnGUArd StAff

More than Words Bookstore in Waltham, MA continues to support troubled youth and help prepare them to pursue and achieve their goals and ambitions. this includes More than Words alumni Gordon doristin. Currently, thanks to the transitions Program provided at More than Words, doristin is attending dean College as a freshman and a business major. his current goal is to become a full-time student at Bentley University. he was able to talk about his time working at the bookstore and how the experience continues to help him pursue his aspirations today. LM: how did you find out about More than Words? When did you start working there? GD:“i started at the end of 2006 and heard about More than Words from my housemaster when i was in high school. She recommended this job to my friend and i. Although my friend did not want the job, i figured it would be a good opportunity for me. She thought it would give stability, a steady income, and keep me out of trouble.” LM: Could you describe how

you felt the first time you stepped into More than Words? did you feel confident, terrified, excited? GD: “during my interview i was terrified, thinking i probably wouldn’t be able to get the job. When i started working at More than Words after getting hired, i thought it was just another job. As i maintained my work ethic, i saw it more as a program than a job.” LM: describe a typical day working at the bookstore. GD: “Because i was still in school, i worked part time three to five days a week. At the beginning of the shift, the staff and i were given planning sheets to chart out the day ourselves. depending on the day, we would have a lot on our plate, or just enough. “i worked more downstairs in the back rather than at the store front. i did a little bit of everything back there: processing orders, entering books in the computer, finding lost orders, you name it. i was mostly responsible for converting More than Words into the bin system. i would make bases and scan old inventory in them, while weeding out books that were not being sold and just taking up space.” LM: What was the most difficult task for you at your

job? GD: “the most difficult task was public speaking. We would speak in front of customers for tours and during events. the most recent ones i can remember are speaking in front of dSS (department of Social Services) mothers and at Brandeis College, describing the importance of More than Words and their transitions Program.“ LM: how long have you worked for More than Words? do you still work there today? time and again, i take a couple of shifts when i get the chance. When i am on break, such as last Winter Break, i work there every day because it is more money in my pocket for school.” LM: has More than Words helped you get to where you are today? GD: “definitely. Being a part of More than Words required two things: focusing on whatever is needed for the store, and then focusing on me. Going through the transitions Program helped me keep my focus on myself by deciding if i wanted to get

a better job after More than Words or go to college. there would be times when More than Words directors would ask for my report card to make sure i was on track to graduate. Because the program also linked me to form a new contact with diane tetreault, i have gained a lifelong mentor who also checks to see where i am at in my life-long plan. “i believe it is a sort of chain effect: my housemaster helped me look into employment at More than Words, and the bookstore helped me discover a second mom figure in diane. Meeting her has led me to apply to dean College, and with her help on the application, i got accepted. More than Words has become a valued support system for me and because of them i have learned a lot. no one supported me before. now i have a whole team of support. Without them, i would not be where i am now.” the bookstore and café is located at 376 Moody Street in Waltham, MA and opens tuesdays through thursdays from 11:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., and Sundays 11:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. for more information or to shop online, visit their website at mtwyouth.org.

Bollywood Blowout: Great success Dance crew competition By Sindhu Palaniappan

this past Saturday night, the South asian Student’s association went over the top with hosting their spring show, Bollywood Blowout. the event was held in the candlelit Edr complete with a lit stage, handmade decorations, catered ethnic food, and of course a cash bar. Since it was a charity ball, audience members were encouraged to don semi-formal attire, which went well with the accompanying red carpet. the event was comprised of two main segments: a dance portion for the first half and a date auction for the second. overall, the event managed to raise $4,020 for the Haiti relief effort. treasurer of SaSa Monil Kothari said, “SaSa was very excited to have thrown a successful event that provided a night of entertainment but also raised over four thousand dollars for the Haiti initiative.” the first half of the ball consisted of three dance acts choreographed and performed by both Bentley and non Bentley students alike. Pavan Patidar, a junior here at Bentley and captain of the competitive Bizraas garba team, performed first and got the crowd going. they were followed by Bentley’s own Supreme Bhangra unit,

Last thursday, I was watching brightly attired brothers and sisters stretch, dance, and socialize to the beat of Ke$ha and Lil’ Wayne. High school dance recital? glorified circus? no! It was Bentley’s Best dance Crew competition held in the Edr on March 18. the event, sponsored by BStV and alpha Phi, showcased seven student dance crews battling for the title of Bentley’s Best dance Crew (and you thought we only had two dance teams at this school). the proceeds from the event went to Project Haiti (the Haiti relief effort on campus) and alpha Phi’s charitable foundation. and what would an Edr event be without food and various raffles? Prizes to be won were dunkin donuts gift cards, an Edible arrangement, a mini grill tailgate bundle, and even a flip camera. all teams were competing for a $100 grand prize and bragging rights. the boys of dKE and alpha Phi sisters were very well represented, with two teams from each organization. there was an aSP duo dressed in the worst of the 80s garb, CraZE, Bentley’s hip-hop dance team, and last but not least, BStV’s own dance crew. alpha Phi teams, very pretty

spearheaded and co-captained by senior abhi Sehli and junior apoorva goel. the third act was a Bollywood dance and skit performed by all Bentley students and choreographed by akhil Chimnani, who was all smiles during and after the performance. “It was super exciting,” he said, “and a lot of hard work but a lot of fun.” after the dances and a brief intermission where audience members were encouraged to enjoy food, dance, and socialize, the auction began. Sixteen different groups and individuals were auctioned off, including the president of SaSa himself to yours truly. the dates weren’t your average dinner and a movie, though. a few groups sold their cooking talents and promised to make dinner instead of just going out. others promised a night at the

hookah bar and good company. one group advertised a game night, filled with taboo and twister. the captains of the various dance teams offered private lessons to those willing to buy them. the president of SaSa, ashish Kumar, summed up the night neatly, saying, “I think it was an all around success. We managed to put on some very professional performances while keeping the atmosphere lively and dynamic, having incorporated a cash bar, a full dinner, and entertainment.” “I am so glad that it turned out to be such a huge success,” said Sucheta desai, the event coordinator for SaSa. “We were able to raise an incredible amount of money, all for a good cause. Hopefully this is something we can turn into an annually recurring event.”

in matching pink outfits for their Barbie girl routine, made heads turn and audience members fall off their chairs in surprise! the first dKE team gave a good performance, but simply paled in comparison to their older brothers. dKE’s Sam Mayville and company were like fish out of water on stage - in a good way. their utilization of old school classics such as Kung fu fighting and YMCa made for interesting dance moves. BStV’s team closed the show, but not before “making some love” onstage to an usher classic. the coordinated and quick moving CraZE dance team gave a perfect performance of their latest routine, which included songs by Ludacris and Beyonce. Even their hair flipping was in sync! But all teams were utterly outdone by the aSP duo, Josh Stavis and Scott Scarpato, who unabashedly shook and sweated to the oldies. In a performance that would have brought a tear to richard Simmons’ eye, the boys rocked out, high-kicked, and danced their pants off to win the title of Bentley’s Best dance Crew. BStV’s nick aquino was glad the event was so successful, saying, “I had a lot of fun and the crowd was really enthusiastic. definitely watch out for next year’s competition.” Hear that, crews? Keep practicing!

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but there’s plenty of good music that isn’t on the radio. Here are three bands with enough talent to make it big who are currently flying under the radar. Have a listen; there’s something here for everyone. Skybox (indie-pop) throw david Bowie, MgMt, and the flaming Lips into a food processor and blend. the resulting musical margarita is Chicago-based, indie-pop band Skybox. these comparisons are only a taste of what the eclectic yet talented group of young musicians has created with their latest album, Morning After Cuts. Each track dares the listener to classify the band to just one genre. Sepia-tone acoustic folk (Slipping), soaring electric pop (In A Dream), and calculated indie rock (Morning After Cuts) comprise this wonderful journey of musical schizophrenia. the band is currently touring in support of Morning After Cuts. Since their last tour in 2006, Skybox’s concerts have become legendary, featuring confetticannons, chicken suits, and gogo dancers. Such spectacles should not distract from the charisma and talent each musician brings to the ensemble, however. Lead guitarist Christian fields and keyboardist Mike Holtz transform simple, likable chords into full-fledged, euphoric harmonies that will keep even the casual listeners bobbing their heads. Lead singer and chief songwriter tim Ellis does not hold back, sounding out curious lyrics within his remarkably vast range. Ellis’ highly syncopated vocals are very instrumental, carrying a significant portion of the beat and melody. Morning After Cuts is available now in music stores and online. If you’re intrigued by Skybox’s self-described “post-glam, elec-

tro-clash pop and roll,” introduce yourself with tracks such as Fences and Everyone Falls In. also, check out my personal favorite, In A Dream, which is available for free download on their site: skyboxmusic.com. pretty lights (trip-hop) Make a political statement, talk about a failed relationship, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, autotune, rinse, and repeat. the appeal in mainstream music isn’t readily apparent until you turn up the bass. the basic form of “banging beats” is what keeps everyone coming back for more, and Pretty Lights is giving the people exactly what they want. dusty jazz, blues, and funk tracks from yesterday, once broadcasted on forgotten radio stations, now exist only as radiation in space, illuminating the empty night with constellations of Pretty Lights. While other electronic bands work feverishly to keep the dance floors moving, musician derek Vincent Smith is much more thoughtful and deliberate. His tracks carry with them serious, heartfelt soul, something rarely found in this genre. Pretty Lights as a whole can best be classified as trip-hop; it draws its influences from a variety of sources. the drums combine elements of jazz, hip-hop, and breakbeat, forming the backbone of each track. In many tracks, Smith sprinkles delicate melodies over the rhythm with pianos and strings. tracks never sound cluttered, despite the many electronic elements and breaks used throughout. In fact, ambient sounds are utilized so masterfully, at points you might think you’re listening to something by Boards of Canada or dJ Shadow. Pretty Lights has made a bold move offering all their music for free online. derek Vincent Smith and his live drummer Cory Eberhard are currently touring the country in support of their brand new album Making Up a Changing Mind. discover what

Betrayal, hatred, commitment, and hopeless love swirl into Hollywood stories that rock stars can only summarize in 3-minute snippets. Well, that’s not entirely true... Much of the life of a rock star is spent in tour busses, recording studios, and at second jobs. If musicians were to be completely honest in their songs, they would sound a lot like goldspot. In one word, goldspot is “real.” their slightly melancholic yet optimistic lyrics share messages of unsteady love and simple dreams. the result is eerily relatable music that feels as though it’s playing from inside. Songs like The Moon is Too Far tell stories of heartbreak in such a truthful way that listeners cannot help but reflect on their own life. not all music fans enjoy such highly personal music, but those who do are sure to find it here. With only a few exceptions, the music itself is quite simple. acoustic or light electric guitars play soft melodies over minimalistic drums. goldspot is highly influenced by the Clash, Paul Simon, and strangely enough, 50s Indian playback singers. Lead singer Siddharta Khosla works Indian percussion instruments and melodies into many songs (Gopi Blues, Paper Boats) which give goldspot a unique flavor you don’t normally hear in the states. goldspot has recently released its second album, And the Elephant Is Dancing, online. the physical release date has not yet been announced. a good place to start would be with The Grocery Store and Clap Clap. Repo Men: A cliché disappointment By ian Markowitz fEaturES EdItOr

In Repo Men, when customers fall 90 days behind on the payments for their artiforgs, as they are likely to do with a body part which costs $600,000, remy (Jude Law) and Jake (forrest Whitaker) are sent by their company, the union, to go repossess the organs overdue for payment. Repo Men is a movie which sends you on a wild ride blowing through virtually every movie cliché while at the end feeling empty and unmoved. Set in a futuristic world, the movie portrays Whitaker and Law as men who repossess artificial organs, or artiforgs in the movie, from customers who are past due on their payments for the exorbitantly expensive artiforgs. Since the organs are so expensive, virtually everyone enrolls in a payment plan for the organs to have more time with their families, regardless of whether or not they are able to afford them. as a result, organs are frequently repossessed by remy and Jake for a hefty commission, catching the customers off guard when the Repo Men come to collect. remy is stuck in a tough situation because his wife wants him to switch to selling organs for the union, which would provide him with less gruesome work and more predictable hours so he can spend more time with his son and the rest of his family. after Jake decides to repo an organ at remy’s family barbecue, Jake’s wife leaves with their son, upset that Jake and remy would continue to do their work at a family barbecue. Eventually, while remy is out on a job to repossess the organs of a famous dJ, he becomes electrocuted and knocked unconscious only to awake in a hospital with a new artiforg heart implanted in his chest. after his artiforg is implanted, remy has a difficult time getting back to work repossessing organs, and can’t

pay for his implanted heart. the union then sends a repo man after one of their own, while remy runs away with a nightclub singer named Beth as they both try to avoid being repoed. Repo Men had the potential to be a great movie with a halfdecent plot, but instead it suffered from being overly cliché, not working hard enough to create a realistic setting for the movie - it seems to be set in a city similar to gotham City, but with signs written in both English and Chinese. the main issue with the movie is that the production team designed a futuristic, computer-generated scene to show the whole city in the movie, but then didn’t spend any money on set design to create a world in which the detail shots would reinforce the computer-generated city. for example, the house that remy lives in and the grill that he barbecues on are both straight out of present day. Even the cars in the movie are a toyota Prius and a Volkswagen touareg, but for some reason neither of those cars reinforce the “futuristic” nature of the movie. the other issue with this movie is that although it was a

sci-fi thriller, there were many aspects of the movie which were so overly cliché and predictable that there was little else to do but laugh. One of the main fight scenes towards the end of the movie seems straight out of a dream as remy fights to take out dozens of people in a major fight scene, plowing through person after person with two blades. While the ending has one of the strangest and most frustrating last scenes of any movie I have ever seen, it was unable to redeem the movie as a whole for its long list of shortcomings. However, I have to say that the strangest part of the movie for me certainly had to be a segment where there was a surgery involving remy and Beth which was filmed and edited similarly to softcore pornography and was extremely disturbing to the audience. Overall, the movie is one which can be easily missed, especially for the $10 ticket price you’re likely to pay if you see it in theatres. If you’re dying to see the movie, you’re better off waiting for it to come out on dVd and then renting it from a redbox kiosk in Shaw’s. rating: 1/5 falcons

Some more Webfinds to keep you busy in a boring lecture By Ian Markowitz FeaTures ediTOr

every month, dozens of new web startups enter the scene, offering everything from phone service to the latest and greatest Twitter integration. Below are some new startups which will help you do everything from branding yourself on the Web, to developing a phone system for a startup of your own, to even creating a catch-all website where you can find more websites like these. Flavors.me Flavors.me was a quick and easy reason for me to ditch my Web hosting this month. although it is open to the public and is completely free,Flavors.me is in its early development stages. This website gives you a control panel which allows you to design your Flavors.me page with a background, color scheme, and font of your choice. From there, you add certain services like Twitter, Last.fm, and Facebook to your page and voila, your personal Flavors.me page is complete. Completely simple in its functionality and minimalist in its design, with Flavors.me you can create simplistic personal pages which allow you to start your own home on the Web. Create your own

Flavors.me page, by purchasing a domain name for yourself, forwarding it to your Flavors.me page and you have a simplistic, professional webpage for less than $1 a month. (www.flavors.me) Phonebooth Phonebooth is an excellent Web utility for any startup. it allows you to seem like a major company to your customers, without paying a single penny. Phonebooth helps you set up a virtual Webbased phone system which will forward your calls wherever you are. The free version of the program entitles you to 200 free calling minutes per month, a local phone number, and 50 free voicemail transcriptions. One of the coolest parts of the system, though, is its ability to set up auto attendants. auto attendants are the systems which answer phones when you call major corporations (“Press one for billing, two for support,” etc.). The ability for a small startup to set up a phone tree which will forward calls to its employees regardless of their location is invaluable. For example, imagine you were running a company with employees in California, Texas, and Boston. Phonebooth would allow you to set up a toll-free number and forward calls to each

Westrol reaches new heights, named DII Player of the Year By Phillip St. Pierre Vanguard Staff

after making it to the Elite 8 for the third time in four years, Bentley basketball is rolling along as the taste of victory is getting closer and closer. the falcons earned wins in three tough games against Bridgeport, Merrimack, and Philadelphia, and in the process had one of its stars, senior guard Jason Westrol, named as dII Player of the Year by the national association of Basketball Coaches. the veteran leadership found on the Bentley squad has proven to give them an advantage over many of the teams they have faced, and Westrol is a major corner stone of that leadership. Westrol has been one of the best players ever to come through Bentley, and he has the numbers to prove it. the senior holds Bentley records in games started, consecutive games started, minutes played, field goals made, and field goals attempted, as well as being second in both points and steals on Bentley’s all time list. the list of accomplishments just keeps going on for the allamerican, who is averaging 21.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.9

assists, and 2.3 steals this season. Westrol has scored a total of 658 points this season, leaving him only 11 points shy of the Bentley single season record. these are truly remarkable statistics, but the most sensational number of Jason Westrol’s basketball career is his overall record in four seasons for the falcons. the senior owns a career record of 117-15, making him an amazing 102 games over .500. this shows just how special of a player Westrol is, as he has led Bentley to at least 20 wins in all four of his seasons here. Jason Westrol commented on the team’s situation, rather than his own accolades, “Obviously it was a tough losing streak, but we didn't quit. the three games we lost, we were going out there with the thought that we had to win, instead of going out there and just having fun. But I think we have turned that around. “now we are just going out there having fun and just playing basketball the way it should be played,” finished Westrol. Bentley has continued to prove people wrong this postseason as they have played at such a high level, despite losing one of their key pieces in

tom dowling. the falcons have surprised many with the level of play they are exhibiting and maintaining, and their momentum just keeps growing. Ending the season with three straight losses, including a defeat to the likes of uMass Lowell in the first round of the northeast 10 Playoffs, the falcons lost a little of their thunder due to a struggling offense. fortunately, they have been able to turn it around in the division II tournament. according to Coach Lawson, “as great as it was going undefeated in both the 2006 and 2007 seasons, this team’s achievement is probably more special because of how it happened. I’m excited for this group because of the adversity they have had to go through with the death of our senior manager as well as the injury to one of our top players. Making it this far shows how special this team is, and I’m excited for the games to come.” It’s do or die for Bentley, as a loss would end their season, but the falcons are playing with so much confidence that they feel like they have the ability go the distance and win Bentley’s first ever division II Championship.

G Jason Westrol has been named Division II Player of the Year.

April’s Advice

By April Gammal

Your Questions Answered! Question: It is so hard for me to converse with someone that I do not know, or to simply be social in a social setting. Do you have any ideas that will help me? Interacting with people who you do not know is not an easy thing for many people, especially if you are not too outgoing. Some people seem to be able to start up a conversation more easily than others, and are able to jump into conversations more easily as well. However, I do have some ideas that may be able to help you out. Listen. If it is hard for you to think of topics for discussion, then let the other person bring up subjects and listen to what they have to say. Making small comments like, “No kidding,” and “Is that right?” will make them feel as though you are interested in what they are saying. It will take the focus

off of you for a while and you can enjoy what the other person has to say. Be Honest. If you are with a few people and they are talking about a certain issues that you disagree on, express what you think. This doesn’t give you the right to insult someone or say something rude, however. Simply say what you believe in a respectful manner and I’m sure it will provoke an interesting conversation. Use Common Sense. Do not talk if you have food in your mouth, do not mumble so that the person cannot hear you, and do not laugh obnoxiously if someone tells a joke. Volume. Just because you are talking loud does not mean that the person is listening to you. If you talk too softly, the person will strain to hear you and lose interest in what you are saying. Try to find

B Well Informed: Drinking Statistics Question: Are the statistics that the Center for Health and Wellness Staff use about drinking really correct? I went to a program last month with one of your staff members and I have a hard time believing the information is true. You are not alone in questioning this data. People often look at the behavior of their immediate social group as “the norm.” For example, if you choose to drink alcohol three days a week and your friends also consume three days a week, it is easy to assume that most college students who drink do so three days a week. The behaviors of your social group confirm your choices. You might be surprised to learn that seven out of ten Bentley students who choose to drink alcohol report consuming alcohol two days or less per week.* Surprises are good - our job as health educators is to give you the facts so that you know the real story rather than the myth or the perceived story. In fact, research indicates that providing this type of real story (also called normative date) is one of the more effective ways of reduc-

a nice, comfortable tone. Ask Questions. Ask questions to the person you are talking to about what they are saying. This goes along with listening and showing the person that you are interested in the conversation. There is nothing worse than someone who constantly talks about themselves throughout the entire conversation. Keep it Clean. If you do not know the person that well, then it is probably not a good idea to make some sort of sexual comment, especially if you are talking to someone of the opposite sex. You do not want to come off as being rude or inappropriate. Ultimately, just try and be yourself and immerse yourself in the conversation. Learn from people’s experiences, share your own opinions, try to relax, and the words should come.

ing risky behaviors. Forty percent of Bentley students think that the typical student drinks alcohol on a daily basis, but the truth is that only a very small minority - only 1 percent - of Bentley students actually report drinking daily.* That’s a huge disparity! Certainly, there can be errors with self-reporting, but for the most part, year after year the data trends remain consistent across the country. Most of our data comes from a tool called the National Collegiate Health Assessment from 2006. This survey is completely confidential - we never see individual student responses. The survey is administered by the American College Health Association. We will be sending out the 2010 National College Health Assessment (NCHA) in the next few weeks. We hope that if you are surveyed, you will be completely honest. In addition to providing information on student behavior and health trends, data from the NCHA helps our office to assess the health and health education needs of our students. We also have other data on student health experiences and

behaviors from AlcoholEdu and other sources. If you are working on a program or project and would like specific information about health-related behaviors, call us at 781-891-2222. We would be glad to help! And if you or any of your friends are having a problem with alcohol or any other drugs, confidential, free appointments are available at the Center for Health & Wellness - 781-8912222 - and the Office of Counseling and Student Development - 781-891-2274. Do you have a question about health, dieting, fitness, alcohol, drugs, or sex that you always wanted to ask? If you’re thinking about it, chances are another student is too. The Center for Health and Wellness is sponsoring a regularly featured column and we want to hear your questions or concerns. All identifying information will remain confidential. What things have you done since graduation that you never imagined would come across your plate? Without any real clear career focus, i took the u.S. State Department’s Foreign Service Officer exam shortly after graduation after being encouraged by my neighbor. To my surprise, i passed (barely). i decided to entertain this idea, and the more i read and researched the more i became enthralled by the responsibilities of serving as an economic foreign service officer in an exotic foreign country. i worked diligently on preparing for my second step, which consisted of several short essay submissions. Surprisingly, again, i passed. The last critical step involved a day-long oral assessment in

Washington, D.C. with eleven other candidates. The assessment was filled with mock negotiations, case assessments, and hypothetical scenarios. i fervently prepared for this, pushing my graduate studies to the side and focusing all of my energy on the evaluation. This time, i did not pass, and while disappointed, i know i learned more about myself from this incredibly fascinating process. Did you end up taking a non-traditional career path from the typical Bentley student? i knew at the end of my senior year that i needed the cushion of the Five Year Program to help focus my attention and finally decide what i wanted to do with my life post-grad. as a graduate student, i am currently working at TJX in Community relations. This philanthropic department is responsible for funding thousands of community organizations throughout the united States, while creating sustainable partnerships. My experience in the bentley Service-learning Center really motivated me to

align my career path with my personal interests to serve. i enjoy this work, and i know that it adds real value to the company’s bottom line as well as to the customers that support it. At this point in your senior year, what kept you up at night and how would you deal with that same issue today? The pressure to find a job was the most stressful thing senior year. it seems that all your friends know what they want to do and land the perfect job, and you are left scrambling to take what you can get. i have come to realize that by just graduating from bentley, i have acquired more assets than i can count. regardless of your background, you will at least have a degree, which ought to give you confidence to walk a little bit taller and breathe a little bit easier. Was there a specific lesson learned in your senior year that has impacted who you are today? Plan fun things. With all of the responsibilities students have, it sounds cliché but it’s

important not to just say, “i am going to have fun this weekend,” but to actually set your plans in stone in advance and make sure you tell eVerYOne who might bother you (professors, bosses, etc…). Too often have i tried to “take it easy” on a Thursday night but have been pressured by my Gb401 group to meet. Without anything actually planned, i have no legitimate reason to excuse myself, and as someone who feels too guilty to lie, i end up meeting for three hours when i thought all week that i would “take it easy” that night. i think everyone experiences this type of situation, and advanced planning has worked tremendously in creating more time with friends and motivating me to work towards the “fun weekend” finish line. What are you doing with your leisure time? as a cheap college student, i am trying to use the resources around me, including the library museum/aquarium passes, to explore boston, the bentley gym for an endorphin kick, and, now that the weather has turned, anything that gets me outside.

involvement in your host institution’s community (service learning, sports, a team or club, etc.) and how it has contributed to your education abroad experience. Doug Lajoie Dublin, irelanD

The study abroad program at university College Dublin (uCD) places a great deal of emphasis on integrating the american students with the irish students. However, the group that has had the greatest impact on my experience here at school is my irish History class. although it consists completely of american students, it has greatly increased my understanding of irish culture. a major facet of the course is an offering of free trips throughout ireland, run by our guide, Dorothy. The first trip that we attended was a series of horse races in the countryside.

The next trip, which was probably the most memorable, was a genuine irish house party. Hosted at the landsdowne hotel, the house party consisted of traditional irish music, an irish dancing tutorial, and my favorite - free beer. another trip that was a favorite among our group was the outing to Croke Park, the home of ireland’s Gaelic sports. it is the host of hurling and Gaelic football, two sports that find their home solely in ireland. Croke Park was most recently the host to ireland’s home rugby matches during the 6 nations tournament. Traveling to Croke Park offered us the opportunity to test our skills at hurling, which is a mix between lacrosse and field hockey and

The trips to the neolithic tombs at newgrange and a castle outside Dublin have allowed us to see beyond the city. They have also allowed us to meet a ton of students studying at uCD from different places throughout america. as our semester begins to wind down, there is much to look forward to in our class, with upcoming trips to belfast and the Wicklow Mountains.

In his Irish History class at UCD (above), Doug was able to visit many different cultural sights, such as an Irish house party.

MEN’S B-BALL Continued from Page 1 utes on the court, Bentley proved 16-0 this season, but 9-6 when he couldn’t hit that watermark. Out with a broken foot he sustained against St. Michael’s in early February, the coaching staff shut Dowling down after the first regional contest, effectively ending his season. Despite the David and Goliath look of this game, the Falcons came into the game with a few star-studded players of their own, chief among them senior G Jason Westrol, a 2,000 point scorer himself (second in Bentley’s history) coming off his career-best game against Philadelphia. Add in talent like junior F Brian Tracey, who averages 18.7 points a game, and senior G John Brandt, enjoying a solid senior season. And let’s not forget the momentum from the East Regional championship and the massive Blizzard audience taking three whole sections of the arena. The first half was as exciting as any Bentley fans have experienced over this amazing four year run. Brandt kicked off the Bentley

offense, joined by Westrol and Tracey in revealing the “pound it in from the arch” strategy, which at first gave the Falcons a 13-6 lead early in the contest, but ASU would not be held down. Pushed by their aggressive style of play and stunning rebounding, the Jaguars would begin to gain momentum backed by their experienced starters, exhibiting one of the smoothest offenses the Falcons have seen all season. ASU would hit their stride around halfway through the half, using their size and rebounding to open a 20-19 lead that would grow to 24-19.

While Bentley’s offense did have a slight stall where several drives came up empty, but Bentley’s early lead and steady defense helped cushion the offensive hiccup, in which a leading Falcon scorer, junior G Mike Quinn, struggled mightily. It would be freshman Guard Greg Jacques who woke Bentley up with a three, while ASU fans and coaches seemed occupied with jeering at the referees for a series of calls against ASU. Meanwhile, Westrol would rebound an ASU and bring the score to 26 all with a 1:40 to go. The score would hold

through half, as ASU showed increasing signs of frustration with Bentley’s superb defensive stand as the half rolled to a close, leaving the teams not only tied in score, but also ironically in field goals and attempts, at 11-31. One must note that Magden for ASU could not get anything going and the Jaguars went 0-8 from around the arch thanks to both poor shooting and great perimeter defense by the Falcons, helping keep Bentley in stride with one of the finest teams in the country. The second half began with ASU’s crowd as raucous as ever, with referees calling ASU for oufls left and right. Though Madgen would make ASU’s first three of the game to break the 26-26 halftime tie, both teams turned to an agile style, with Bentley and Augusta exchanging quick blows. Brian Tracey would give Bentley its first lead, 35-33, in the second half with a huge three, reinvigorating the Bentley Blizzard. Sophomore F Kevin Kettl would chip in with some key rebounds, and soon fouling on both sides seized the pace of the game. ASU was having some

success thanks to its massive center, senior Alex Smith, who Bentley had trouble challenging at the hoop, but Bentley would keep a lead of 60-56 with 2:10 to go. A Brathwaite three closed the gap to 1, a brilliant John Brandt steal would bring the lead to 62-59, but ASU senior Dan Dixon responded by stripping Brandt on the next Falcon possession, and tied the game at 62-62. This is when the audience was truly on the edge of its collective seat, when John Brandt hit a truly electric three pointer, giving Bentley a 65-62 lead with only a seconds to go. All of Bentley’s Blizzard was screaming in delight and awe of Brandt’s superb shot. A quick ASU layup brings ASU within one, but wh else but Jason Westrol is fouled on Bentley’s possession, and despite fstruggles from the line most of the game, the captain came through in the clutch, sealing the game by making both free throws. When the game came to a close, Bentley was on top 6764, and now looks forward to a tough Final Four opponent in Cal Poly Pomona, from California, Thursday evening at 8:30 in Springfield.

Young Lady Falcons team off to a superb season start Despite youth, 11 letter winners use experience to keep strong team grounded By Robbie LaBrie SportS Editor

the Bentley Women’s Lacrosse team has started the season out well, heading into the meat and potatoes of their schedule. they will be looking to carry over that success as they start to take on more Northeast-10 teams and to climb the conference standings over the next month. the Falcons are a young team who is looking to improve on last year’s season where they went 9-9 overall. it is a roster that contains only two seniors and one junior, and while they may be short on age, they are returning 11 letter winners from last year. Bentley had to replace their leading scorers from last season in Alyssa ritchie and Jaclyn Griffen, but they return six of the next seven top scorers from last year, and should have enough talent and depth to compete with anybody this season. Freshman Cori Geiger has burst onto the scene in a big way early in the season, being named NE-10 Freshman of the Week for the second straight week. the freshman is tearing up competition, with 13 goals and 16 assists so far on the season, leading the team in points, assists, and second on the team in goals. Geiger, a midfielder, is leading the NE-10 in assists per game and ranks third in the conference in points per game. Junior attack Leigh tedeschi has also gotten off to a hot start, leading the team with 17 goals. the Falcons got their season underway on March 10 in purchase, New York against Mercy. tedeschi and Geiger paced the team in this game, scoring four goals apiece, as the Falcons

cruised to a 15-7 win in the opener. After 14 minutes, the Falcons had jumped out to a 4-0 lead on two goals from Geiger and one apiece from tedeschi and freshman dovlyn Curtis. two and a half minutes into the second half, the Bentley lead had expanded to 9-2 and the Falcons would not turn back. Mercy tried to stage a comeback, scoring the next three goals, but the Falcons were too much and Bentley went on to win the game 157. three days later, the Falcons were back in Waltham for their home opener against Queens. For the second game in a row, the Falcons took down another small New York team, but this time they left absolutely no doubt. the Falcons came out and recorded their first shutout since 2000, taking down Queens, 21-0. tedeschi took over this one, scoring a career-high six goals. Sophomores torre taylor and Megan Wiggins each pitched in with three of their own, while Geiger and fellow freshman taylor Bastien were there for the helpers with four assists each. Bentley’s next game came on St. patrick’s day, and while most of the Bentley community was wearing green and engaging in other irish activities, the Falcons were busy putting up another dominating performance, this time over post, in Waltham. this time it was a 23-1 win and it was Geiger pacing the Falcons. She came out and dropped three goals and six assists on post. tedeschi and sophomore Lauren Canepa scored four apiece and Curtis recorded a hat trick. the Falcons led this one

13-0 at intermission and they never looked back in the second half, cruising to the easy win and advancing to an impressive 3-0 on the season. it didn’t stop there for the Lady Falcons, however, as they traveled to New Haven to play their first Northeast10 game of the year against Southern Connecticut. As usual, Geiger did her thing with four goals and two assists, as Bentley won the game 21-4 and cruised to a 4-0 start, the best in program history. twelve Falcons got in on the action, scoring goals for the Falcons. Bastien scored four herself, while the other 13 goals were spread out among 10 players. tedeschi, Wiggins and sophomore Maureen Fields each scored two apiece. the Falcons finally took on their first real test when they hosted the number three team in the nation, C.W. post. C.W. post came into the game 3-0, so somebody was going to lose their undefeated season, and unfortunately it would be the Falcons ending up on the wrong side of the scoreboard. despite the loss, the Falcons proved they will be a team to be reckoned with, regardless of their opponent. Bentley fought hard for most of the first half. After the pioneers jumped out to a 20 lead, Bentley tied it up at two apiece. After each team scored again to make it 3-3, the Falcons grabbed the lead on a tedeschi goal. C.W. post scored the next three goals of the game, however, to grab a 6-4 lead. the Falcons did get it back to 7-6 and looked like they were in a position to make a run at the win late in the second half. Unfortunately, C.W. post scored the last two goals of

the half, making it a 9-6 game at intermission and the pioneers decided they had had enough in the second half. C.W. post scored the first seven goals of the second half to blow the game wide open. that would be the end of the C.W. post scoring, but they played lock down defense the rest of the way and the Falcons were only able to muster one more goal in garbage time. the final score was 16-7. While Bentley could not grab the win, they played well for a good amount of time against a very good and experienced team and they

will be able to take a lot away from the loss. the Falcons will take on Bloomburg in Bloomburg, pennsylvania on Sunday before entering the grind of their schedule where 10 of their last 11 games will come against Northeast-10 competition. this will give the Falcons a chance to establish themselves as a power in the conference. the ingredients are there for this team to have a successful season, and if they keep playing the way they did over the first two weeks, a championship is the limit for the Falcons.

Torre Taylor, a sophomore, had a goal and an assist against C.W. Post, ranked third in the nation.

Falcon oF the Week Korwek Named Falcon of the Week

658

Jason Westrol was named the 2010 NCAA division ii player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. did you know Westrol has scored 658 points this season, just 11 shy of the school record set by Jim Ferrer in 1989? Look for that record to be shattered as Bentley takes on the Elite Eight this week.

Sophomore catcher Kevin Korwek of the Baseball team has been named the Falcon of the Week. Korwek was behind the plate three times last week, all Bentley wins, and hit .571 (8 - 14) with six runs scored and three rBi. He also had a .600 on base percentage and a stolen base. His two-run single in the bottom of the 10th inning against Saint Anselm on March 17 gave Bentley a 5-4 win. one day later, he went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and one rBi in an 18-5 win at Saint Anselm. on March 20 at Adelphi, he singled in the ninth inning to ignite a four-run rally and scored the eventual winning run in a 6-2 Falcons victory. through March 23, Korwek is batting .297 with 19 hits, 10 runs scored and 10 rBi.
