Penstemons’ prett y bell-shaped flowers appeal to both bees and gardeners alike, and they partner beautifully with classic English roses

Ideal for a sheltered sunny spot, penstemons love the warmer summers we’ve been experiencing recently in the UK. Traditional varieties of these attractive perennial plants produce hundreds of small bell-shaped blooms from July to October, and there are also newer penstemons with larger, more prominent flowers. No matter which variet y you choose, all penstemons look particularly beautiful when grown alongside other popular summer-flowering plants – especially English roses. Here, we’ve highlighted si x of our favourite penstemon varieties, and matched them with si x enchanting David Austin roses.
