Bereavement Support and Memorial Services

Bereavement Support

As part of the on-going bereavement support that has been developed by the Trust, a series of Memorial Services are held each year. Every next of kin, family representative or carer who has lost a loved one has the opportunity to attend a Memorial Service at least once following their bereavement, usually after a period of six to twelve months.

The Memorial Service is designed as an opportunity to remember a loved one in a simple ceremony. The Service involves words, music, poems and the lighting of a candle and is suitable for people of all faiths or world views.

The Adult Memorial Service – This provides support for those who are bereaved after the sad death of an adult in the Trust and occurs every three months throughout the year. The Service takes place in the Multi Faith Centre. This is supported and run by the Divisions of Surgery and Medicine with the involvement and oversight of the Chaplaincy Team.

The Haematology Department Memorial Service

The Haematology Memorial Service is held annually in the Multi Faith Centre. The Service is managed by the Specialist Nurses and Ward 44 staff in collaboration with the Multi Faith Chaplaincy Team.

Bereavement Counselling

Bereavement counselling is available to help people who have lost a loved one, whether adult, child or baby, relative or friend. Counselling can help people work through their grief, as well as helping people to learn new ways to cope with daily life. Counselling is not about telling people what to do, but is about helping people to find their own way and their own answers.
