Medical certificate of cause of death (MCCD)
When someone dies, a Medical Certificate of the Cause of Death needs to be completed. It is usually completed by the doctor caring for your relative. Sometimes your relative’s GP will be asked to complete the MCCD, we will advise you if this is the case.
Following verification a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death will be available from the GP surgery. It may to be advisable to ring first to ensure the certificate has been issued.
Please inform the doctor if you are aware of your relative or friend having a pacemaker, defibrillator, artificial joints or radioactive implants as the funeral director will also need to know this.
