In-Patient Unit

The In-Patient Unit (IPU) has ten bedrooms, each of which has en-suite facilities, a TV and DVD player, seating for your visitors, and private access to our garden with patio furniture.

In the IPU, we will help you with your emotional needs and your physical symptoms, including any pain. Our nurses will be on hand 24 hours a day to ensure you have the correct medication and are receiving the best possible personal and nursing care. A doctor will be available every day, and we can help support your family, too.

If your symptoms have settled, we will support your discharge home or to an alternative care setting. If this is the case, the hospice will continue to support you.

What should I bring with me?

• A change of clothes and shoes, some night clothes, slippers (or slipper socks) and a dressing gown • Toiletries and tissues • Soft drinks and food supplements, if required • Any medication that you are currently taking • Any possessions that are important to you or that might help you feel at home, such as photographs, books or CDs • Any health related documents (such as District

Nursing notes, community drug chart)

Visitors, including children and pets, are all very welcome, but we do ask that they respect meal and rest times. There is a room where your loved ones can make drinks and light meals. Friends and family can also telephone you on your mobile at any time.

Accessing other services during your stay

If you’ve been attending Day Services sessions, you can continue to visit there, if you are well enough. You might also like the hospice chaplain to visit you, or you may have questions for another member of the team, so please speak to a nurse if you would like to see anyone whilst you’re staying with us.

Due to concerns with both fire and health and safety regulations, we have a strict policy regarding smoking on hospice grounds. For more details, please see the Frequently Asked Questions on page 18.
