“I thought, maybe I’ll give this a shot; I’m not going to take it too seriously but we’ll see what happens,” he says. “I started to share the imagery from my shoots on Instagram and before I knew it, it was just taking off. The numbers started to climb, and I never really understood why.” The why part was pretty simple – he had a beard. A big, glorious, bushy hipster beard right when beards were becoming a huge trend. “The beard started as a bet with a friend,” he says. “There was a running joke that I should grow one because I was shaving twice a day. The beard became a massive trend overnight and it was strange to see myself thrust into almost the forefront of it. I went from having my images shared on Instagram to being in international newspapers. It was crazy.” When he decided to shave it off last year, the media called it proof that the beard trend was over. The fuss people made over his shorn face took Chris by surprise. But then again, he had already started a new trend – the ‘beardstache.’

A SCOTSM AN IN NEW YORK You might not know his name, but chances are you’ve seen Chris “Milly” Millington’s bearded visage on billboards in capital cities all over the world. The Scottish model and social media star shot to fame because of his perfectly bushy, hipster beard. Since then, he’s been taking his more than 500,000 followers on the road with him – and picking up more along the way.

The brooding, monochromatic photos that populate his feed are stunning. There is rarely, if ever, a smile to be found in the portrait-like shots, but in person he’s a world apart. Animated and warm, his personality is down-to-earth and his Glasgow accent charming – if also indecipherable at times. “It’s the main problem I face,” he says with a laugh. “To me, the Scottish accent is

really clear. I have this idea in my head that we are the only people who speak proper English. I mean obviously we don’t.” It’s not an issue at home, the Merchant City neighborhood of Glasgow, which is a hotspot for high-end dining and luxury shopping. He’s lived in the city for a few years now, just 25 miles from the tiny village he grew up in. For him, the choice to stay

in Glasgow rather than moving to a larger fashion capital was simple. “Keeping myself based in Glasgow is purely because the people there are so nice and the vibe is relaxed,” the 26-year-old says. “Going back home has become like a vacation. I’ve been on the road for so long that when I get home it feels like I’m having time off. In comparison to places like New York, Paris or London, Glasgow is slow paced and everyone is really relaxed.” When he’s home, he spends time in his neighborhood and in Finnieston, an upand-coming part of the city. Formerly just

warehouses and docks, these days you’re more likely to find pop-up bars and cool restaurants serving up fresh, local dishes. ”Finnieston is like the new Williamsburg,” Chris says. “It’s really hip, really cool. A lot of artists are moving there because it is cheap. At the moment, Finnieston is popping.” The popularity of his Marlon Brandoinspired boots, beard and denim style on Instagram happened quite by accident. He wanted to be a Glasgow police officer, and handed in his application for the force just one day before a modeling agency scouted him off the street in London.

A GLOBAL NOM AD AT HEART Kylee Campbell is a fashion and lifestyle blogger first, an actress second, and a true nomad who’s spent her 29 years traveling the globe. Her Instagram page and blog Catch Me Dancing chronicles her “rocker chic” style, her laid-back NYC lifestyle, and her sweet yet endearingly nerdy personality.

How did your career as a blogger and Instagram star get started? I worked as a stylist for two years. I was getting a lot of Instagram followers and attention via that because I was surrounded by fashion. I was also modeling on the side. My Instagram kept getting bigger and the blog was born out of that. Where does the name of your blog come from? I am such a quirky, nerdy dork at heart, but I don’t let those parts of my personality show right away. It’s called Catch Me Dancing because I’m constantly dancing and being a goofball, but you have to catch me doing it. You have to catch me being myself. How would you describe your personal style? My style is rocker chic in a way. I really like mixing classic, beautiful and chic pieces with an edgier vibe. And then it really depends on my mood. I’m someone who gets up and dresses for how I’m feeling, not necessarily for someone else.

Where are you from originally? I was born in San Francisco, but I grew up in Portland, Oregon and England. Where did you live in England? I was in Bath. It’s a magical little bubble. My school looked like Hogwarts from Harry Potter, which is amazing. You even got sorted into houses. It was every girl’s dream. Well, at least my dream.

What did you learn from living abroad? It made me look at the world with a more open mind. I learned how to question things and adapt because we were constantly moving. Now I get itchy if I don’t travel within a certain amount of time. I’m always seeking out that next adventure.

French/Vietnamese and I have a bunch of family living in Nice. For the first time, I got to meet all of them. There was that instant sense of bond and connection. Then there’s the food, wine, streets and alleys that are so photogenic. It was a blogger’s dream.

What was your best vacation this year? I recently went to Nice and Cannes. I am

list. I ride horses and you can do these horse-riding treks where they filmed Lord of the Rings. That’s just the biggest dork dream that I have. I’m very fantasy-based – an escapist at heart. Where is home in NYC? West SoHo. I found this amazing little place – a tiny SoHo apartment – but it’s my tiny SoHo apartment. I know pretty

much every shop and café owner on my street, and they all know everyone. It’s very old-school New York still. What are your favorite neighborhood spots? There’s an old-school French restaurant called Raoul’s. It’s got this kind of dark, sexy atmosphere. And their burger… I rarely even eat meat, but their burger is the one thing I’ll probably cave for.

What kind of accessories do you wear? I love watches. I like pairing a watch that is pretty classic with bangles or rings that are more edgy. The watch is nice because it ties it all back in. How do you wear your Daniel Wellington watch? My watch goes with all of my accessories – I don’t have to only wear it with this certain bracelet or this certain look. I always get compliments on how it goes with everything.

Where have you traveled recently? I was at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Nashville, which was really cool. I love that southern vibe, open fields and blue skies. What do you like most about traveling? I love seeking adventure. My friends and I love the outdoors, love getting down and dirty. But we also love the glitz and glam of the fashion world.

When she’s not jetting off to work in Seoul, Tel Aviv or Vancouver, she’s at home in NYC – probably playing her guitar and belting out a tune. Where are you from and why did you move to NYC? I was born and raised in L.A. – I’m a California girl. I moved to New York five

years ago, and it was modeling that brought me here. My agency suggested that I work here for a summer and I never left. You are a musician too. What kind of music do you play? I love to sing and I play guitar and piano. I get to tie it in with a lot of my fashion work. I like powerful voices, and a bit of rock and roll mixed with folksy. It goes with my California upbringing. Who are your musical influences? I love Patty Smith cause she’s very rock and

roll, and we have similar voices – kind of deep. I like the edgy artists. I was also really inspired by Bob Dylan growing up. The idea of storytelling is what really inspires me. Your sister Dylana is in the same business. Do you work together? I work a lot with Dylana (@dylanasuarez), and she taught me a lot about photography and style. We’ve always liked documenting and storytelling, which kind of ties into the music, the fashion, and the photography. So our blogs were the perfect place for us to do it.

When you’re packing for a trip, what are your essentials? I always wear good high-waisted jeans, a classic watch, a nice leather jacket, maybe one hat and a great pair of boots. And then a few party dresses because you never know. I’m a pro packer now – I’m never home. What is your ultimate vacation spot? I really want to go to Mumbai in India. I love those gritty places – the colors and the spicy food. So it’s perfect.

Family is everything to Rob Gregg, a 29-year-old fashion Instagrammer and men’s shoe designer living in New York. Peppered throughout sleek Instagram shots of his classic, elegant style are hints of his new shoe line to come. And the backstory that inspired it sounds like fiction – but is all too true. Rob’s grandmother and grandfather fell in love in Shanghai and were separated when World War II broke out. They wrote love letters for a year. His grandfather, a former shoe salesman, escaped on a boat bound for San Francisco to see her, but stopped for fuel in Hawaii – the same day as Pearl Harbor. He made it out and proposed on the spot. “He took that extra step to fight for his love with my grandma,” Rob says. “I’ve instilled that in my shoes and in how I carry myself today.”

You have an interesting heritage. Can you describe it? I’m half Chinese and half Spanish/Mexican. Both my parents had that entrepreneurial spirit; they wanted my sister and I to follow our dreams and grab opportunities. I think that’s cool. How would you describe your personal style? My style is very eclectic. It’s a bit rock and roll and bohemian. I’m inspired by the 70s, so I love Mick Jagger mixed with modernday Jane Birkin – that simple French style. I definitely play with proportions and colors. What are your key accessories? I love statement jewelry mixed with some more delicate pieces. I always wear a ring set or a watch and bracelet set. It’s just easy because I’m always traveling and I don’t have time to be packing.

Chris Findley is a man on a mission. The focused yet funny Instagrammer, blogger and bag designer spends his days chronicling his style and brand collaborations for thousands of followers. But he has one abiding passion that influences everything he does: travel.

“Travel is my life,” Chris says. “Everything I do is based around the ultimate goal of traveling the world. If I can travel and collect a bag of stories, it will be the best thing I can do.” The 25-year-old credits travel for putting him on a path away from the streets of his tough Canarsie, Brooklyn neighborhood. Despite calling the hipster streets of Bushwick, Brooklyn home now, his roots are a constant motivator – and are never far from his mind. “Growing up in Canarsie, sometimes you don’t know what can happen next; I have a lot of friends who don’t make it to 25,” he says. “Being a kid from Canarsie, and being able to see the world just gave me a bug inside that made me want to do more. It changed my life. It saved my life.” He credits a multi-country tour of Europe for opening his eyes to the world. On his first passport – his first trip outside the U.S. – he saw Zurich, London, Amsterdam and Paris. But it was the natural beauty – and unnatural nocturnal hours – of Ibiza that made him want to see the world. His passion runs so deep, he brought his jet-setting ambitions to life as a product that carries his name – a pebbled leather travel bag made in the heart of New York City. “A bag – like a watch – is one level of

elevation,” Chris explains. “I think it raises a man’s confidence.” The leather bag is soft and high quality, a piece that in his words will collect all of your travel stories in a series of unique scratches and blemishes. And for each one sold, he adds another pin to his map. “For every bag that sells, I buy a plane ticket,” he says. “The last ticket I bought is to Cape Town and then I’ll go to Curaçao after that. My ultimate goal is to travel the world. And if I can find a way to build a business around it, I’ll be the happiest person alive.”

Christie Tyler is a fashion blogger, university student and model who has been in NYC for just a year, but has already made it home. Bringing her hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers with her, she inspires with a laid-back sense of style and self.

Can you describe your blog Christie’s Closet? My blog is mostly about fashion and lifestyle, and it’s evolved more into interior design as well. I started it three years ago as a place to post all of my photos. Then people started commenting and reacting – I had no idea anyone was looking at it in the first place. I just went with it. As a newcomer, what are your impressions of the city? My first question was how am I going to

live here? I live in Midtown so there’s a real fast pace to it. But there are also a lot of cute, quirky things like flower shops on every corner and those little hole-in-the-wall coffee shops. You really start to love it after a while. How would you spend an autumn day in NYC? I would get brunch at The Standard; they have a garden that’s just beautiful. Then I’d go shopping in SoHo, and end the day

with a really nice dinner somewhere with a fireplace. How would you describe your personal style? My style is a mix but it has a vintage, bohemian vibe. My go-to pieces are a great pair of Levi’s and a buttoned-up blouse paired with a choker or a really funky hat.

A Los Angeles native, Jenny Ong is the epitome of casual and luxe West Coast style. Beaming out her own photography and style shots to a readership in the hundreds of thousands, Jenny is a fashion blogger and Instagrammer with a serious case of wanderlust.

Can you describe your neighborhood? I live in downtown L.A. There are parts that are rugged and grungy, and others that are more posh and chic. That dichotomy appeals to me because it feels natural. You can be yourself and dress up whenever you want.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day in L.A.? I would head over to Grand Central Market in downtown and get breakfast at Eggslut. They make excellent eggs. Then I would go hiking in Malibu. It’s a little bit more put off from the city, but it’s a great scenic hike. Then maybe dinner at Gjelina, which is a fantastic spot.

Can you describe your blog Neon Blush? I mostly post about my personal style, and then a few years ago I started documenting my travels more. It’s fun to share the things I’m interested in – good places to eat and visit, beauty tips, good ways to pack. What do you like so much about traveling? It’s very eye opening. You observe people in their natural habitat, and pick up on the way they do things that may differ from you. What has been your best trip recently? I went to Tulum in Mexico. It is a magical place that’s really untouched. We went to the Cenotes, these caves where you hike down into a well to swim and snorkel. No one seems to go there. It feels like your own water playground. How would you describe your personal style? It’s really basic black and white with a bit of detail. I like destruction and a little bit

of grunge. It’s relaxed West Coast mixed with a bit of East Coast prim and proper. Is there one piece you can’t live without? My leather jacket. It’s a pebbled bomber and it goes with everything. You can either dress it down or dress it up. What about accessories? I tend to gravitate toward silver jewelry

and watches. I like minimal accessories. Sometimes I’ll stack or layer on watches and bracelets, as long as they’re delicate. I like a clean look. How do you like to wear your DW watch? With a simple raggedy T-shirt, black jeans and sometimes my leather jacket with rolled-up sleeves to show off a little bit of the detail.

On a trip halfway across the world, founder Filip Tysander met an intriguing British gentleman with impeccable yet unpretentious style.
