The Panhandle’s economy is barbelled by tourism and the military, and is home to Eglin Air Force Base (AFB), Tyndall AFB, and Naval Air Station Pensacola, which are among the nation’s most prominent defense facilities. Regional leadership recognizes the importance of a diversified economy, and as a result, the Panhandle is attracting skilled labor in other industries, including scientific research and development, aerospace engineering, and defense system development. To support this growth, infrastructure investments include airport expansion projects, destination sports venues, amphitheaters, new public beach access ways, and bike/ pedestrian pathways to enhance the lifestyle proposition the market can offer new residents.
