Tournament Format

The field will be divided into flights, which will be arranged by the aggregate total of the team’s handicaps

Each round will consist of nine holes of Strokeplay

First Round ~ Better Ball of Pair

Second Round ~ Shamble

Third Round ~ Scramble

Fourth Round ~ Better Ball of Pair

Fifth Round ~ Chapman

Sixth Round ~ 1 or more….

The tournament tees will be the White Tee.

The Rule of 75 is in effect if your age plus your handicap is 75 or more, you are eligible to move to a forward set of tees (Fazio or Green). Please see a member of the Professional Staff prior to the event if you would like to play from a different set of tees and we will adjust your handicap accordingly.

Handicaps

Handicap Index as at the Closing Date of September 29 will be used. Players must have a GHIN Index and handicaps will be verified by the committee. Handicap Index differential between partners must not exceed 10 strokes (If higher than 10, the higher handicapped player will be adjusted).

Tournament Format

Scorecards

Scorecards for each round will be provided prior to teeing off. The scorecards will be marked with the individual handicaps as they have been previously certified by the Committee. All scorecards must be signed, attested and turned in at the scoreboard immediately following your round. Strokes will be marked where they fall on the 18-hole card.

Score Posting

Please note the Berkeley Hall Professional Staff will be posting the Tournament Scores for each competitor under the direction of the Club’s Handicap Committee. We are requiring scorecards to be returned complete, signed and attested for posting purposes. Incomplete scorecards will have Decision 5 2a/5 applied for posting purposes.

Starting Times

For each round, we will indicate your respective starting hole. It becomes necessary for us to ask you to be considerate of all the participants and to arrive on time at the start of each round and to keep pace with the group in front of you. This will help ensure an enjoyable time for all.

Optional Cash Buy-In

The Official tournament cash buy-in may be entered by paying $220/team prior to teeing off on Thursday morning. Friday’s Horse Race is an additional $30/Pair.

Tournament Format

Cash Pay-Out

The cash payout will be based on the number of teams that buy-in. Cash prizes will be awarded for;

The Low Score for each round

The Winner of each Flight

The Runner Up in each Flight

The Overall Winners in the Championship Shootout

Flight winners will participate in an Aggregate score shootout playing holes #9, #10, & #18 (North). All play will be from the default tee that was used in Flight competition. Hole #9 will be Chapman, Hole #10 Scramble, and Hole #18 1 or more...

If necessary the tie breaker to determine the overall champion will be an aggregate score playoff using hole #18 on the North Course. If the tie is still not broken after one hole, we will use a nearest to the hole from the fairway on #18 to the green on #9.

All ties for first and second in each flight will be decided by the following:

Lowest 6th Round Score

Lowest 4th Round Score

Lowest 2nd Round Score

Lowest 1st Round Score

Lowest 3rd Round Score

Lowest 5th Round Score

Chip-off at hole to be determined by committee

Any team not present for a playoff will forfeit their spot for any potential prizes.

Horse Race

The Horse Race is an optional event following play on Friday. 2-man teams will be ordered from lowest to highest team handicap.

Pairings will be posted on Friday morning. Pairings will be made starting with the lowest USGA Index and the highest USGA Index and will have 1 member and 1 guest on each team. The pods will be determined by the number of teams that participate and their combined USGA Index.

No strokes will be used during this event

We will play on the South Course and the holes used will be advised once we have a count of how many teams will be playing.

The Race

The Race will begin following the completion of Round 4 on Friday afternoon. It will be a 3-hole Race on the South Course. Each pod will be given a starting hole and play will begin. Players will play from the tee markers that they have played from in the main tournament. All teams will complete their three holes of strokeplay and the low team from each Pod will move forward to the Horse Race final. In the case of ties, a chip-off will be contested from a point determined by the Golf Staff. After pod winners are determined, the final shootout will play Hole #16 for a sudden death playoff to determine the Horse Race Champion. In the event of a tie we will have a closest to the pin contest using hole #16 (Burgundy Tee) of the South Course.

We will be playing alternate shot format. For example, one team member will tee off of the Odd Holes and one team member will tee off of the Even Holes. Prize money breakdown will be based on a percentage of the Horse Race Pot*

*Amounts dependent on total number of Teams in Cash Buy In

Rules of Play

USGA Rules shall govern all play and the following Local Rules shall apply:

• Holes #10 & 14 (South) Waste Areas: Sandy areas to the right of #10 and #14 are not a penalty area and are to be played as the general area .

• On holes #4 & #17 (North) the margin of the red penalty area will be defined by the edge of the cart path nearest the penalty area. In addition to the option prescribed in rule 17.1, ball drops have been provided as an option if the player chooses. Please use the drop area that would be the closest to the spot the ball last crossed the margin of the penalty area no nearer the hole.

• Immovable Obstructions: In addition to rule 16.1, if a ball lies off the putting green but not in a penalty area and an immovable obstruction on or within two club lengths of the putting green and within two club lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief as follows:

The ball must be lifted and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay that (a) Is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids intervention and (c) is not in a penalty area or on a putting green. The ball may be cleaned when lifted.

• Newly sodded & sanded areas: Relief must be taken from all newly sodded or sanded areas. Please proceed under rule 16.1.

• Staked Trees: Protection of young trees is identified by stakes and rope. If such a tree interferes with a players stance or the area of his intended swing, the ball must be lifted, without penalty and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 16.1a (Immovable Obstruction)

• Out Of Bounds: Defined by white stakes / posts.

• Yellow Penalty Area: Defined by yellow stakes / lines.

• Red Penalty Area: Defined by red stakes / lines.

• Doubt as to Procedure

In stroke play, if a competitor is doubtful of his rights or the correct procedure during the play of a hole, he may, without penalty, complete the hole with two balls. Rule 20.1c.
