Located in Lake County, Highwood is south of the Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve. The Celebrate Highwood festival was created in 2009 to bring together the Highwood Chamber of Commerce and the people within the community with the goal of making it a destination city. Students can attend elementary and middle school in North Shore School District 112 and High School in District 113.
