Feelings
They shape how we think
How do we feel when the sky gets bright later in the morning and dark earlier in the evening? The lack of light and the cold often affects us mentally and physically, some will call it “the winter blues”. While bears found a great solution and just sleep it over, as humans that’s not realistic.
Enclosing yourself inside the house is not really an option. There are multiple things you can do to keep your mind and body balanced. The key to success is staying active. But what does that mean? It can be implied to many sectors in our lives.
What can you do? Nutrition
When it’s colder your body requires more calories. This doesn’t mean you should only eat fast food. Berlin’s low sunlight also means that more of the sleep hormone melatonin is produced. Melatonin’s opponent, serotonin exists in many kinds of nuts: peanuts, cashew nuts, hazelnuts etc.

Meditation
Meditation can be translated to many actions like writing, drawing, contemplating and for some even washing the dishes. It is an individual experience. The important thing is to give yourself the time to be thoughtless, and clear your mind from the overload.
Social
Not only do the cold and dark influence how we feel, but also our environment. Having a sense of community helps immensly if it’s keeping in touch with your family or being part of drawing class, people need people. You’re not alone!
